People with thyroid symptoms are often overlooked by average doctors, or told that their thyroid symptoms are just in their head. This is unacceptable, and often caused by a doctor not ordering a full thyroid panel. The will order one or 2 tests and then proclaim the thyroid normal. This can miss several important things. That's why you need to ask for a full thyroid panel and be able to say why you want each of the tests.

I now go to Labcorp and order my own testing with all the things you talked about in this spot on amazing video. I hand it to my doctor and have a better experience getting my Synthroid levels right.I went on carnivore last year and lost my synthroid weight gain, 58 pounds released. I asked my doctor 25 years ago to check my thyroid. She reluctantly did it, almost with an eye roll. She was not happy when it showed that I was hypothyroid. Then, when I told her I didn't want to take synthroid, but armour instead, she told me to find a new doctor 😂 which I did and she was the best doc I ever had until she retired many years later.

My doctor told me " this is as good as it gets"! Fast forward 25 years and Internet and a thyroid Facebook group I persuaded my doctor to refer me to an endocrinologist who put me on 15mcg of T3 a year ago. Still no improvement in symptoms but my bloods are within normal range. I'm 65 now so dealing with the effects of aging as well. I started out subclinical. It got so bad I was losing myself as the days went by. Got a 2nd opinion, found out I was severely anemic, which happened after a miscarriage that I should have gone to the er for and didn't know better. My advice, is when they test you and something ends up being off, ask them to test certain nutrients. I was on 2 iron pills a day for a couple months. Check your iron, iodine, b12. Make sure your levels are towards the middle of the scale, not the low end.

There is a greater risk of thyroid cancer if you had breast cancer and vice versa so just as well you removed your thyroid, likely it was cancerous. I had follicular thyroid cancer. Apparently it's linked to low iodine. Breast tissue has iodine receptors too, second only to the thyroid. So make sure you take elemental iodine too.

I'm 14 yrs post total thyroidectomy. I live in Mississippi and have yet to find a endocrinologist that gets it. In 2022 l fired ny last endocrinologist forever. I COULD NEVER make them see l cant convert t4. I now see a NP that believes the free t3 should be upper range of RR. Im 72 and have so many factors that interfere with my thyroid levels. MTHFR, stage 3 rental disease, Hemochromtosis, clotting, and liver enzyme CYP2D6 that can cause toxicity in the liver when combined medication is taken . Sad thing is 95%.of drs don't care to help you. They just to quickly write that prescription that fixes that issue but causes harm to other organs. .

Funny... I went to a doctor that I was told was the best endocrinologist in St Louis. Never once did he draw any blood from me I went to him off and on for about 3 years. He stood in front of me and held an ink pen in front of my face and said follow the pen with my eyes. Then he told me to hold my arms out straight so he could see if my hands were shaking. Then he said okay take the prescription I gave you and come back in a few months. Needless to say I didn't go back after I gave him a couple tries. I found out I am my own best doctor and I have done an amazing job researching and learning about my symptoms and treatments. Much thanks to Dr Berry in all of his knowledge and caring help me get some relief. BTW I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism from my gynecologist... Of all people! Please be vigilant on your own treatments never stop learning because you can get relief when you find out what works for you! God bless!

I have been hypo for 30 years. Something felt very wrong. I felt like I was dying. Waited 8 months to see an endo because they are the only ones in Canada who can order a full thyroid panel. He spent 45 minutes explaining why I didn't need it, took me off dessicated thyroid (and the little bit of T3 I was getting) and put me on synthroid. I left in tears. I went home to die what I knew would be a miserable death. Two years later I begged God to send help and within minutes, I found a naturopathic doctor that saved my life. I had the second worst case of reverse T3 she had seen in 20 years. It took almost 2 years for my blood work to get within normal range. Ketovore and feeling better. It will take the rest of my life to heal properly. Grateful there are those that care enough to do their job properly.

Thank you, Dr. Berry. I have a family history of hypothyroidism, leading to half of my thyroid removed surgically in 1973, due to a benign tumour on my thyroid. Since then, my synthroid has reduced from 1.25 mg to .75 mg, over the years. My endocrinologist explained this reduction as "I must be getting younger." (He was more interested in cholesterol levels)

Started carnivore about 8 months ago and still had thyroid issues, so my doctor started me on Dr Brownsteins iodine protocol and wow! What a difference that has made for me! Carnivore plus iodine has changed my health completely (and adding organ meat supplements because I hate eating organ meats). Working up to high dose iodine - 25mg - was tough at first. I went through detoxing which makes you jittery sometimes. But once I got past that detox phase, my energy improved and my mood. Now my hair is starting to grow again. I highly recommend high fat carnivore and dr brown steins book on iodine for hashimotos/hypothyroid issues. I can’t wait to get my next thyroid test!

Hi, I have hypothyroidism. I am on Thyroxine 100g but still had terrible symptoms, so I went carnivore 3 months ago. My antibodies are sky high, but my doctor refused to adjust or consider any other medication, so I paid for private blood tests, which confirmed they are still high. After shuffing the results under his nose, he still refused to do anything. I've just started on two drops of iodine a day. How many do you take and did you increase it gradually? 😊

If you don't know why your Dr won't order the tests you need...it's time to understand how docs are paid. Ask if your doc is part of an ACO? Docs are paid on many models in which they are paid a share of the "savings" that they manage for Medicare or the Manage Care Organization....bottom line is that your health is their last concern and in most cases they are only employees and the system will not allow them to order anything that is outside of the usual checklist.

I've been having low-normal TSH for years now, despite my thyroid being chock full of nodules (ranging from Tirads 1-5). But because the TSH is "normal" the public health system in New Zealand won't do anything about the nodules/thyroid beyond once-yearly ultrasound scans (and the occasional CT every 2-3 years). Hearing about these other tests and knowing they exist I'll ask my doctor to do a greater investigation (especially helpful now, since my next yearly scan is in August).

I've had a partial thyroidectomy, where half my thyroid was removed. The surgeon said that portion of the thyroid had overgrown to the point it was wrapped around my trachea, essentially strangling me. 😳 After the surgery, I experienced worsening asthma symptoms, which the surgeon said was unrelated. Then I developed a sensitivity to corn products. I gaineed about 30lbs and have only been able to lose maybe 10 lbs no matter what ive tried to do. I've been on the keto/carnivore diet for a little over a month, and my asthma symptoms have subsided, my blood pressure has dropped (it was never really high, just a little elevated for me), and I'm overall feeling better with no thyroid symptoms. And yet my TSH level went from about 4 to 25 😳, after being on Armour thyroid instead of levothyroxine for the past 6 months. I see my endocrinologist in a couple weeks, and hopefully we can resolve things. Since going keto/carnivore, I have more energy, less brain fog, better mood, reduced asthma symptoms, etc. My mom has a complicated medical history, I call her Molly the Anomaly lol...apparently the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! 😂😂

I am fortunate in that I have a primary care physician who listens to me. So the next time I am going in for a thyroid test, I will ask for a full thyroid panel, because my thyroid levels fluctuate , and I go from 125mcg, to 187mcg dosing. I have long COVID, after having COVID six times, and the fatigue is almost debilitating. It would be nice to know if any of the tiredness stems from my thyroid issues, because that could be corrected.

My daughter and I both have Hashimoto’s and take Synthroid. Only our TSH is checked routinely and T4 occasionally, with our doses often being adjusted based on the TSH. We both still have hypothyroid symptoms, even when our TSH levels are too low but the endocrinologist will reduce our doses of Synthroid based on that one test. Would these other tests be helpful to us? We’ve had results where the TSH was “normal” and T4 was off, and vice versa.
