So which cast member you think would win an episode of The Weakest Link? You can actually find out! As they had a Doctor Who episode and someone has posted it on youtube.

This first series is legit. It's hasn't aged badly at all. OK we've got way bigger sets and vastly superior cgi now and the fashion is painfully mid noughties even in the far future (a deliberately choice as trying to invent future fashion tends to age worse than just using regular clothes of the day) but the storytelling, the acting and the music is on point.

It’s got character in those obviously anachronistic bits which I love. That’s why the current super-smooth CGI rlly doesn’t work for me as it doesn’t have the character

TORCHWOOD is an anagram of DOCTOR WHO. When the new series was coming out, all the film canisters were marked Torchwood so if someone tried to find them, they were not marked Doctor Who and easily found.

They didn't just reference contemporary shows. They actually got their hosts to voice robot versions of themselves. So Anne Robinson, the then host of The Weakest Link, voiced the Anne-droid, Davina McCall from Big Brother voiced the Davinadroid, and Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine, from What Not To Wear, voiced Trine-E and Zu-Zana. While the others were BBC shows, like Doctor Who, Big Brother was not, so it needed some more behind the scenes negotiations to use the format.

@@chilixocoltl - Hosted by the Anne-droid. For five seconds, until the real Anne Robinson entered the stage and pulled its plug. Why didn't Rose think of that? It's on KZbin, unfortunately not in the best quality. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2eVaauketJqgqssi=7oQ0Rji7cTgFXIhu

The Doctor’s last speech is one of my favorite moments in the whole series. “Rose.” “Yes Doctor?” “I’m coming to get you.” Still gives me chills.

Big brother hosted by Davina McCall in real life at the time who voiced ‘the davina droid’, weakest link hosted by Anne Robinson who voiced the ‘Anne-Droid’. Who actually looks just like Anne Robinson at the time it’s so iconic 🤣 and then What not to Wear with Trinny and Susannah voicing Trin-E and Zu-Zana And side note, Billie Pipers acting is so good, she genuinely looks absolutely terrified when she loses the game

"She met him...I love how deeply connected this all is..." You have no idea at this point! That is for later. But...this episode and the next are among my all time favorites. I think Eccleston is underappreciated as a Doctor. His speech at the end of this is one of the most epic speeches in history.
@greenpeasuit

Each Doctor has their share of epic speeches. I can't decide which is my favorite from Nine. Either this "Doesn't that scare you to death" speech, or the pilot's "THAT'S who I am" speech.

@chazo1367
@chazo1367 10 ай бұрын
@@HuntingViolets It's not a grandiose speech or taunt of an enemy. It's the simple happiness of a man who has seen so much death FINALLY getting a break and everyone involved actually surviving what happens for a change, the damage gets undone and everybody lives, the rarity of that for the Doctor and especially after the Time War where he NEEDED a win like this cements it as one of the best lines.

As you mentioned, series 1 of Doctor Who is very interconnected for a reason. You see, Russell T Davies had always been a huge fan of DW and always dreamt of giving the show a proper finale (since the original run kinda just fizzled out, with the last serial - the old Who ran in serials of multiple episodes each during each season; similar to modern multipart episodes - being just a normal story), so he approached the BBC with an idea for a single season, a true finale for Doctor Who. In order to convince them (since at that point, the show had been off air for over ten years, excluding the one-off TV movie), he planned out that one season to the smallest detail. And to his suprise, the BBC agreed. Of course, RTD then got more than he wanted, as the Powers-That-Be saw the show's popularity and gave him more seasons, which led to Series 2 being, well, you'll make your own opinions once you watch it.

Eccleston only needed one season. He was so op that he had nowhere to go but down after that.

Definitely possible! He brought such an intensity to the role, and an extra darkness being so raw from the war that a new iteration quite possibly served the story. Still, I would have loved more time with him.

I still remember watching this for the first time on BBC3 back in 06, I remember thinking that the Telly was glitching, and I was getting audio from another channel. Also, I don't know if it was intentional, but the scene of Rose seeing the Daleks for the first time reminds me of the scene from The Daleks, the original Dalek story, where before we see the Daleks for the first time we witness one menace Barbra from it's perspective, keeping it obscured.

As an old school fan - as soon as we hear the sound on board the ship that Rose is teleported to - you know it's DALEKS! (I knew also cos Australia aired this about 3-4 months later than the UK... but - meh.) As for the Doctor's declaration of war on the Daleks, that basically was like a massive massive THIS IS DOCTOR WHO moment. By which I mean - the Doctor rarely ever has much of a plan going into things, he never carries a weapon, and yet they still save the day. It was like this huge nod to fandom - this really is the Doctor that we grew up with. Chris Ecc was not a long lived Doctor, and I doubt he'll ever return to the main series, and I respect that decision, but I really wish we'd had more of him. I presume the journey that the next Doctor ultimately takes would have been RTD's masterplan all along, but I do wonder how different it may have been.
