I believe that Chloe was targeted by the lonely alien, because she was an abused child who was still trying to process what had happened to her and she needed love as much as the alien. Good omens in great (and relatively short). Based on the book by Neil Gaiman and Terry Practhett (an amazing collaboration). The TV series was also created by Neil Gaiman - the first season based on the book published in 1990. The second season by working off notes he and Pratchett made for a possible sequel/second season before Pratchett passed away. The Hitchhiker's guide feel is appropriate as both, but especially PTerry (Terry Pratchett - those who know know ;)) express similar humour. Pratchett and Douglas Adams have been compared favourably for their comedic fantasy and Sci-Fi respectively. I agree that Good Omens would be a great show to have on this channel.

This episode is so underrated, it actually lists as one of the least liked new who episodes, and I never understood why. I've heard a lot of people say that Chloe's performance was a reason, but honestly I think she did a very good job of showing the loneliness of chloe during the short time we saw her without the isolus, and as for when the isolus was controlling her, it definitely gave obsessing and scared to me. As for the rest of the episode, I love this one. So many good details: the bit about the tardis needing to be re-parked, the moment(s) with the doctor sensing something is wrong or different (as in feeling where the ionic energy was, and then later when he said a storm was coming, it almost felt instinctual. And yeah, it definitely reminded me of Mary Poppins (Many fans love the idea that Mary Poppins is a Timelord, including me :3 )), the connection of the mother and chloe in the end. Also, when it comes to the isolus pod, it didn't just need heat, it needed love, and the olympic torch represented the love of all the fans.

By the time you get to Capaldi you'll be able to publish a nice fat book "Questions for the Doctor and Whovian Famdom"

I'm glad they didn't have iPads back then, Chloe and the Isolus would've been speed drawing like crazy.

The scene where the Doctor tells Rose he was a dad once in Classic Who one of the Doctor's original companions was his granddaughter Susan companion to the First Doctor (William Hartnell) for the last 61 years the shows been on the air we never deep dived into the Doctor's family background or his entire background in general other than hints here and there that's why the shows called "Doctor Who?" as in mystery or who is he? The Doctor never opens up to his companions that's just the way he is your forgetting he's lived for over 900 years.

The Kookaburra song is an australian folk song or nursery rhyme from the late 1800s. Not sure why (maybe because of the strong links between Australia and the UK), but it's fairly well-known in britain too.
@JHNoble4 күн бұрын
definitely the cultural links, but also maybe b/c it is a good song for young piano students. I remember it from the mid-1970s, taking lessons in the US.

I’m not trying to hate, but I’ve watched a lot of Americans react to this episode and they all seem to think it’s weird The Olympic torch is going down the street. Is the Olympic Relay not that big a deal in America? I suppose you haven’t had the Olympics recently, and your country is so huge compared to ours, but the Torch went everywhere up and down the country - down plenty of residential streets (though of course this episode released years before the actual London Olympics)
@HuntingViolets6 күн бұрын
I never thought to question why it was going down that particular street. (American.) When she mentioned it, I just thought, well, it's probably somewhat random. They're going to want to go down a variety or whatever. I mean, the torch relay has been on television.

🖖 love that Star Trek exists within the Whoniverse. Several times referenced on screen, as if The Doctor could actually visit the Enterprise, and any of the planets mentioned in Trek, not just referenced in the comic books.

@@joshuajoshua2732 Generally, I would agree about keeping things seperate, but if anything were to have a crossover, DW and ST are the best crossovers to have. For sci-fi.

It's not really a reveal that the Doctor was a father. The first Doctor's first companion was his granddaughter, Susan.

This episode has been removed from BBC iPlayer - one of the cast Huw Edwards was later accused of child p*rn and rather than try to remove his scene, they chucked the entire episode.
@andrewbowman46116 күн бұрын
They're in the process of re-recording Edwards's lines with another actor or newsreader - possibly Jason Mohammed, seeing as he has Who experience. It's surprising how much Edwards can be heard throughout. The redubbed version will available before too long, I'm sure.

Thing to remember about the Doctor is that at this point he is over 900 years old. Just going by companions we know of (on screen ones) there is between 25 regular companions, and about 40 depending upon your definition of a companion at this (2x11) point in the show. At the time of his first regeneration (into the second Doctor) he is meant to have been about 450 years old. The show has been going for a long time, but it still hasn't shown us 450 years of footage of his travels, so who knows how many companions have tagged along that we know nothing about? What I'm trying to say is, don't be too hard on him for not telling Rose everything that has ever happened to him, or about every companion. They'd never have time for their own adventures ;o)
