In The Angels take Manhattan, the Weeping Angels are trying to farm the quantum energy as you mentioned. It makes sense as it lives off your potential future, and so every time you go back in time, you become part of events and so have a new potential future. However, in this episode (and wasn't made clear at the time when 'no one survives it twice' is said), 1901 is taken out of time due to quantum extraction. So the Weeping Angels have nowhere to send you back when they touch the characters a second time. Whether its intentional to conceal the fact that 1901 is taken out of time until later in the episode, or just a workaround for a continuity error, its not clear - but the only person who says 'no one survives it twice' is Peggy, who doesn't have the context of how Weeping Angels work in other situations, so it does make sense.

Those scenes make it so the episode is not standalone when it would’ve been a lot better if it was. Also those scenes are completely pointless and you don’t miss anything if there weren’t included in the first place.

This Season plays to Chibnall's strengths from Broadchurch. He's a writer who works well with a location and a group of characters and seeing how they adapt and react to the sitiuation. This season plays that on the galactic scale, especially with Vinder and Belle. The overall narrative details are less important than how it impacts on all the characters within it.

The bit where the angel lunges out of the TV screen is one of the show's all-time greatest jump scares, and Jess' reaction is priceless. That angel heard Eustacious talking that sh*t, lol.
@lurker13163 жыл бұрын
The Weeping Angels are probably the one villain in this show where having more of them actually feels like a bigger threat. Like, one Dalek? Huge and deadly threat that's hard to take down. A million Daleks? Nah, don't worry about it, we'll take down all million at once. One Cyberman? Serious problem. A million cybermen? Nothing to worry about and they can't hit the broad side of a barn. But with the Angels, having more of them feels like it raises the tension. Even in Blink, there's a moment where they're like "one Angel, we got this" and then "oh no, there's another one."

I haven't watched Angels in Manhattan in a very long time, maybe since it actually aired, but if it's a contradiction, you could probably argue that these are different kind of Angels, since they are part of the Division, they could have different rules, like the Recon Scouts who have more capabilities than the normal Dalek and whatnot
@joshuajoshua27323 жыл бұрын
The weeping angels haven't been this scary since Blink in my opinion I felt throughout Moffat's reign as showrunner on Doctor Who even though he created the Weeping Angels i think Moffat doesn't know how to write them properly story wise i felt he got alittle too ambitious with them showing them moving slightly and all that which did not work. Regardless of people going ape shit on Chibnall he has done really well with the old villains and monsters he has brought them back to form he's made them a threat again. This was a great episode the only part that slowed everything down and felt flat is the Bel and Vinder part of it which I do not really care for also when you have a big cliffhanger like this it slightly ruins it when you put in a mid-credit scene or the next week trailers because it gives away too much. But over all great episode.

I just watched this episode earlier this evening on US dvd and boy, did it deliver!!! I have to admit, I was anticipating it, and it was one of the best episodes of the series so far, and I have liked all chapters. They really kicked ass on this one and knocked it out of the ball park!!! What an episode! And what a cliff-hanger!!! Wow. I'm really glad that that Gerald guy was killed, I hated him, but I'm not too sure about Jericho I'm afraid. He might grow on me, I don't know. This was atmospheric, creepy and some great twists. The moment they come to the sign and they're looking at space, I was reminded of Dark City. I love the weeping angels. You see, I never got a chance to see them in action, because I didn't like the companions or stories in series 3 onwards. I always felt like I'd missed out on great monsters in the modern era, since they looked creepy and I'd heard about them. Great that they featured here. This episode will be raved about for a long time to come and that's fantastic. Brilliant. In fact, I was so gripped, I looked at half the next one too!

i was watching this episode with my friend and we completely lost our shit when the doctor transformed into an angel. god, jodie's performance this whole series has been *chef's kiss*. she portrays the subtle emotions splendidly, you can actually see the realisation and the pain of it dawn on her, the fear in her eyes, her hands shaking as she transforms... anyone who says jodie whittaker can't act (like... have you seen broadchurch?) clearly has no taste, honestly. i mean, as a whole, series 12 and series 13 have really given jodie a chance to shine, imo.

This! Jodie Whittaker is an amazing actress, she kicks ass in Flux and I absolutely agree she deserves to be highly praised. I find it utterly ridiculous and disgraceful some so-called "fans" (most of them bigots) are still trying to make her out to be a second-rate actor who was miscast. Even now she's left (with another amazing performance). What a joke! Flux was unquestionably the most challenging New Who season to make in every respect. The season had to be cut in half and rewritten last minute by the writers, so they completely changed the format and scale of the season from the rest of the modern series and made it very experimental. Then they had to scale everything down to match the filming restrictions so it had to be done with a skeleton crew and a much smaller cast who could only film on location minimally in the area. They also had to rely much more on sets, greenscreen, and special effects (which comes with a lot of challenges, especially for actors). A monumental amount of extra weight and challenges fell right on Jodie Whittaker's shoulders. Especially ompared to any other new series season. And she nailed it in every regard. I don't know how you could watch this transformation scene or, say, any of her speeches in Flux and not see she's a great actor.

I think the only reason the girl said you don't survive twice, is because there was no where else to go from 1901. The two times periods were taken out of time (quantum extraction), so after 1901 its just death in the void.

The positive vibes coming from this vid vid is so immaculate, thank you
@FaultyTARDIS3 жыл бұрын
I love this episode too! In terms of the "nobody survives it twice" that is a plothole but there have been a few arguments that are just headcanons but they are either:- 1) The Division Extraction Squad Angels have different abilities like Quantum Extraction and they are so powerful that nobody survives their touch twice. 2) Since the only timezones contained in the Quantum Extraction were 1967 and 1901, you could be sent from 1967 to 1901 but since their were no other timezones contained, if you were touched in 1901 there was no-where for you to be sent and you'd be destroyed. (Some assume this is also what would happen if you crossed the line).
@TheTardisDreamer2 жыл бұрын
I don't really see the "nobody survives it twice" as a plot hole. As you say in your second point, the village was removed from those two specific points in time specifically for the quantum extraction. The Weeping Angels did that to trap the Rogue Angel and stop it being able to escape to any other place in time or space. It makes logical sense then that because of that fact no one could survive being touched in 1901. They'd be obliterated. And it serves as a bit of fun and easy clean-up for the Weeping Angels to do so. Your first point works too, although there's less in the episode to point to that being the explanation.

Class wasn't brought up in this episode SAD!!! That little girl was a bit of a psycho. she saw two people die and didn't react at all (I mean he was obnoxious but still) I like the fact that all of the Weeping Angel lore was referenced here (except for that one I mentioned earlier) It shows how it is virtually impossible to fight them. Leads to a lot of suspenseful scenes. I'm okay with the Angels having a pseudo cult like in Class but I'm not keen on them being pawns of another power. But that depends on how they're used. Love the professor he felt like the most understandable character in the Chibnall run. would like to see more of him.

Loved everything in and about this episode however I feel the same way, I don't like that the Weeping Angels are the used as pawns for another power, it diminishes their mystery and all encompassing threatening presence for me a bit. Still outstanding episode all the same.
