If you were aware of the Classic series, you'd know that one of the Doctors companions was his granddaughter - so his being a parent was not really a surprise as such (except to Rose,of course - but,then again,Sarah Jane was a surprise to her)

The Doctor had their granddaughter as a companion long long ago, so unless there's some weirdness going on there we can assume there were children. That line about having had children before was likely something for classic Who fans

Spoiler....the final episode of this season makes me very sad, lol. Going to officially start watching Season 3 this week. Episodes of Torchwood and Sarah Jane Adventures have been recorded already too. Which has been a nice distraction from thinking about the loss of Rose....and well that whole group of characters. But we can discuss that when I post those episodes, hahahahaha.
