I will give this season one thing, the difference of people's opinions of rankings across the board is staggering. Like you could say Boom and 73 yards are the ones that people mention most, but then there are people who say Dot and Bubble or Rogue is their favourite.

I'm with Johnny, thought the episode was largely garbage. Tbh I'm quite disappointed at the whole season so far, I was really excited about RTD's return at first but he seems to have lost his touch.

Here's my take on romance on "Doctor Who": I agree that you shouldn't have the Doctor getting romantically involved with ANYONE, regardless of gender. See, I think the right thing is to put the romance in the show on the companion, either with other companions (Amy and Rory during 11's time) or with outside peripheral regular characters (Bill with Heather, or Clara with Danny Pink during 12's time). That would allow the Doctor to be more like the lone alien traveler they're meant to be. ...oh, and also agree that 15's constant crying in each episode really cheapens things when it actually comes up during a warranted scene. I just hope RTD gets some notes on that from the BBC/Disney+ studios so that he can get Ncuti to reign that in next series.

As a long time gay fan who has grown up mostly on New-Who, so I'm fine with and used to The Doctor being in relationships and have been waiting for this kind of romance in the show for a long time, I found Rogue to be an incredibly moving and absolutley beautiful romance story with a fun sci-fi B plot. I loved seeing The Doctor and Rogue interact and bounce off each other as their chemisty grows through the story and I found their dance and kiss scenes to be two of the most beautiful moments in the show's history. At least they were for me. I also enjoyed the Aliens essentially being toxic fans, gatekeeping who is and isn't who and always wanting to be the "interesting one" As a side note, I also find it very funny that I came away with this very emotional and personally touching feeling from the episode while Matt essentially got, from the same piece of media; "don't care, don't like seeing the Doc kiss" lmao

"Any old git with an equity card can play the doctor" is coming into play, who cares anymore!! The role of 'The Doctor' is so unimportant now. Anyone and everyone can be the Doctor. I don't want to be the Doctor, I want to be the companion!! THE SKY IS FALLING etc etc on that note - I loved the episode, and wonderful podcast love u boys xoxo

Rogue I thought was okay. I like the premise, the characters and the dialogue but I thought the execution was a bit wonky. Also, it is starting to get repetitive with Ncuti crying. I didn't mind it at first but this episode really did highlight the need to cut back on that for me.
@bigblackdrummachine82506 ай бұрын
thing is , i felt here the tears were justified but the fact he’s cried in literally every episode before made it so this time, where him crying would’ve been justified and impactful, was just meaningless because he cries so much anyway
@ainsleyelliott58406 ай бұрын
@@bigblackdrummachine8250 I agree 100%. Last week, his crying makes sense and him crying over Rogue I can get behind but because it's happened so much in other episodes the impact just isn't there for me. I don't mind a Doctor crying, just keep it more reserved.

I really like this one again. It’s starting to make me a little nervous, having so many enjoyable episodes in a row. It’s not yet reached the heights of series 3, but it’s definitely going well. It definitely helps to have the fan flavouring of a canonical Shalka Doctor! Love that, can’t wait for you guys to revisit that one on the podcast. I also rewatched your older video on it when I saw the Easter egg. PS. Don’t give up on the show Matt! The podcast is great, and I always enjoy it. Remember, however anyone might feel about the show, we are only one regeneration away from it being different.

I’m not really a fan of Doctor-related romances much to begin with, but his interest in Rogue didn’t really feel realistic. Most of the characteristics are things he didn’t like about Jack (like the usage of guns to quickly finish a job for instance) and he and Rogue barely knew a thing about each other. Idk it felt a bit too superficial for me and forced. If this developed over time after multiple episodes featuring Rogue, that would be more believable. (Posting this before fully watching so hopefully I’m not just echoing what you guys said)
@raludomrellim69136 ай бұрын
I really think RTD should of had the "guts" (a bit harsh) to just make Rogue Captain Jack, and that Jack is so vein he found a wrinkle and went for a face change and perhaps because he was jealous the Doctor can do that.

I thought the episode was fine, it didn't really make much of a splash with me. What would be the "main" plot in any other episode, the aliens stuff, was very mid, it was kind of thin wishy washy stuff. The whole episode really relies on how taken you are with the doctor/rogue romance bit and... it was kind of nothing? Like the doctor flirts with him from nowhere (not a fan of that, tbh, sees an attractive stranger and immediately goes off to hit on them feels very undoctorish) then he spends ages holding the doctor prisoner, then the pretend to be romantic as a diversion, then they kiss at the end, there was no real feeling of any substance there throughout the episode. Everyone talking about their chemistry, I really wasn't feeling it particularly, any more than there was chemistry between 10 and max capricorn, or any other sort of mostly adverserial pairing where the interactions are kind of bantery. TBH I'm not a fan of the trope in serialised television where there's a one episode romance between a main cast member and a guest star, you know it's going to be finished by the end of the episode, so they need something really big besides that to make that predictable journey feel worth taking, and for me this episode didn't have that hook. At least girl in the fireplace had some timey wimey before that was done to death and an interesting monster idea and kind of reflections of the inherent tragedy found in the passage of time. This had birds doing cosplay.

The issue with colour blind casting is that it’s a business decision within the industry to align with anti-discrimination employment law. If you’re going to do a historical setting, you should choose a period or event where an ethnic mix existed. They should also set more stories outside of the UK and British history. At the moment, Doctor Who can’t decide whether it’s a tool for social change or just a silly dress-up show. Being both causes tonal and intellectual whiplash.
