Those last 5 minutes are some of the most tense there’s ever been in the show. RTD sure knows how to do a cliffhanger
@TheCornishStallion6 ай бұрын
The Threefold God of Malice, Mischief and Misery is the God's Of Ragnarok. Incensor as the God of disaster and destruction I feel is gonna be how RTD introduces the Daleks into the new era with Davros being referred to as the dark lord of Skaro before or perhaps an appearance of the Kaled God Of War. I think the Trickster, Mara and potentially the God's Of Ragnarok being added to the Pantheon is so that they don't have to be around for and can be brushed away as already being defeated in the past. The Pantheon, in general, acts as a linking device of Classic Who, New Who and NuWho, with the Toymaker being the first appearance of them in 1966. Making the big bads of Doctor Who, the Daleks, Master, Pantheon, Cybermen and Time Lords.

🎊 Ah lads I’m still dryin the couch when me tea spewed outta my mouth with that reveal 😮 What an ep, I’ll totally destroy the list of vulgar names I’ve been calling RTD when he’s on unleashed, If he delivers next week otherwise I’ll follow through with that curse I’ve been prepping for him 😂. Please 🙏 God Sutekh morphs into something more like his form in pyramids🤞 . For now best ep this season 🎉🎉🎉

A phonetic anagram is still a real type of anagram. Plus, Sutekh's name has been spelled many ways over time. It's been translated from Egyptian, so it's English spelling is purely phonetic anyway.
@ftumschk6 ай бұрын
Even the Egyptian "pronunciation" is possibly wrong, as hieroglyphics omit most vowels. We know this because Hittite inscriptions, being syllabic, preserved the vowels that hieroglyphs didn't. For example, we know from Hittite tablets that "Ramesses Meryamun" (Ramesses II) was actually pronounced "Ria-mi-shi-sha Ma-ri-a-ma-na". Unfortunately, there are no Hittite inscriptions that refer to Sutekh, but for all I know, his real name might have been more like "Su-wa-ta-ka" :)

Personally, I don't think Sutekh purposefully chose the "sue tech" anagram. I think that, just by his presence, the anagram formulated around him. Susan triad technologies renamed itself because of his influence, and the name changes just because he is manifesting.

Came away from this ep just completely blown away, it’s been an awfully long time since I’ve been that glued to the screen. Even though I kind of expected the reveal, just the sheer tension of all the pieces being put into place, the realisation on everyone’s faces, Murray’s music going all Satan Pit-y. Ugh, all of it, loved it! Sutekh’s makeover didn’t bother me none, but I do hope we see the mask next week in some form hehe.

held off on watching this episode until last night, because I saw both in the cinema, wanted that to be my first time. Definitely agree that the first half is really clunky exposition heavy, it's just people explaining stuff to each other and nothing really happening. The ending was pretty great though, would have been amazing if I could have gone all week without having that bit spoiled.

Could the cold open potentially be the backstory of how Sutekh latched onto the TARDIS? But within that story you can kill two birds with one stone by then explaining who Susan Twist is and how it infected her dreams. Do that in the first 5/10 minutes? Then leave the rest split up between Sutekh and Ruby? 🤔

its shaping up to be a typical new who two parter, another iconic baddy thats banished in the last 3 minutes by playing patacake at the top of the avengers tower- so we can jarringly pivot back to the phony unearnt heartstring pulling claptrap

Susan Triad’s dream memories are like John Smith’s memories in Human Nature. So she could still be Susan after using a chameleon arch.

It's a part 1 finale by RTD, I really enjoyed most of it. Was overwhelmed in the beginning but the end was great, loved it. Hard to give an overall view of it since it's only the first half of the story and it could go down the shitter. Thumbs up for now though!

Honestly the Sue Tech play on words makes Sutekh’s name seem really silly and honestly makes him not seem as sinister to me, I’m going to go to watch Pyramids of Mars before next week now

For once I agree with billy😂. The reveal itself was great but the episode felt like it's main purpose was the reveal. It was a lot of exposition and not a lot of breathing room. I also am wondering what they will do with the whole god side as Sutekh was seen as a god but was just an alien. I also half expected fenric.

I have a theory about Susan Triad. First off, I think she is truly good. She’s just being possessed by Sutekh. In fact, I believe she may actually be … Susan Foreman. Now, here me out. The Doctor added new info when explaining regeneration to Ruby. He said time lords can use regeneration as a disguise. Why add that if you’re not going to use it? So here’s my theory: As Susan lived her life, she began to use her exceptional scientific knowledge to develop technology to benefit mankind. At some point early on (1975?) she finds it necessary to disguise herself as a human ala Smith and Jones. She develops a successful company and becomes well known. Three months ago things began to change, the Sutekh possession only beginning. She changes her company name. She begins having nightmares. All along she prepares for the release of her software to benefit mankind. (Sutekh likely plans to use this for evil). After the Doctor somehow gets through this crisis, Susan is released from the possession. The Doctor figures out she is Susan but is hiding in a chameleon arch. He releases her, and she “regenerates” into Carole Ann Ford.

I know it's not on screen but I assume that Rose is for undercover things it's probably hard for most of UNIT to blend in with younger people and it's rare to have kids who are in the know about the whole alien thing.

I really hope the finale delivers a satisfying payoff. Sutekh is an iconic villain, and I worry that with so many plot threads to resolve, he might be written off early to make room for the emotional aspects of Ruby's relationship with the Doctor and her family history. Personally, I'm not as invested in that storyline, though I know others may feel differently. This episode didn't quite work for me. It felt slow and heavy on exposition, with constant character updates that were a bit overwhelming. The plot felt thin apart from Sutekh's final reveal. RTD, please give Sutekh the Destroyer the justice he deserves!
@Rik775 ай бұрын
That is what will happen. Sutekh won't be used as a character much I think. The show is about Ruby and the doctor do that will be the focus. Sutekh is a villain that doesn't really have much character.

I am very hopeful that empire of death falls into the category of a good second part like End of Time part 2 and not Journey's End. RTD as always been really good about his part 1's being great and his part 2's ranging from disappointing to just awful. He's 2.5/5 for finales sticking the landing (in my eyes) So it's a real coin toss..

" The Legend of Ruby Sunday". Instant thoughts...not too shabby. This episode was almost a return to form. My main concern is a ME problem. I really feel if the character of The Doctor resonated with me I would have enjoyed this series more. That's my issue but definitely affects my view. Apart from looking like the Biker from the Village People, Ncuti put in a solid performance, however "Give me the lovin' is not a catchphrase that I will be repeating any time soon. Bonnie's Mel was the definite stand out. I loved that the anagram of S TRIAD & TARDIS was disposed of quickly. I felt the Susan Triad character was completely thrown away. "Sue Tech" obvious much? I was expecting Michael Jackson's "Thriller" to be danced to at the "Twist" at the end. Although seeds have been effectively sewn for what should be a cracking finale next week. Interesting that a show about Time Travel should have such bad timing. Why wait until now to be back on form RTD, is this too late? This wasn't half bad at all. I am actually looking forward to the finale.

Cannot get over the retconning of what Sutekh is. Yes, it's a good episode, but that really, really sticks in my craw. I mean, if youre going to fight for all of Doctor Who is going to be on iplayer so that everyone can watch it, what the hell is the excuse for not doing the homework? And he looks bloody silly too.

He looks like a pretty decent realisation of Sutekh, imho, as a Google search for "Typhonian Beast" (the animal manifestion of Sutekh/Set) will show.
