@@space1999 If you'd like more of Eccleston, check out Big Finish sometime! He came back to record 3 seasons worth of audio dramas (basically normal episodes just without the video part) that happen before he meets Rose! They're going through a bit of a mess right now migrating their website/app right now but once they have that sorted I would definitely recommend a good chunk of his 9th Doctor stuff over there!

Murray Gold wrote the music for Doctor Who from 2005 through 2017, and came back in 2023. Yes, he is absolutely brilliant! Yes, his fantastic scores for each episode just adds that chef's kiss to whatever emotional beat they are emphasizing at the time. Yes, I personally put him up there with John Williams, Howard Shore, and Hans Zimmer as a composer who knows exactly how to meld music with story to make the combination much greater than each part.

I used to think the bullets not working was because Jack lied to them in order to buy time for the Doctor, but apparently the Daleks' force field was developed for the Time War, so Jack wouldn't have known about it, as they disappeared from the wider universe to focus their entire power on the war.

Murray Gold wrote all the music for several years, and two different showrunners. He writes amazing (mostly) orchestral based scores using local Welsh orchestras and voices.
@fleason771
@fleason771 7 күн бұрын
What's even more incredible is that Murray had no orchestra during S1. The entire series uses samples, a small choir & other singers & he did everything using a combination of Logic & VSL libraries. It was The Christmas Invasion when Murray got only 1 day with an orchestra to record the 42ish mins of original music 🎶 In the afternoon of that day he re-recorded some of his favourite S1 music for the show & the upcoming OST & used that in S2. In S2 he got a further day with the orchestra to record 45 mins of music for the S2 finale. In the end Murray had about 90 mins of music with the full orchestra but he was still fully dependent on the the sample music he created in S1. It's clear Murray really did work efficiently despite the BBC not giving him the access he needed & with each season with the success of Doctor Who he got more days & time with an orchestra going forward 🥰

Yes - he destroyed both races (or thought he did) to end the Time War. It had reached the intensity that it threatened all life in the universe if allowed to continue. And the Tardis is tough but not indestructible. The "assembled hordes of Ghenghis Khan" can't get through, but a fully functioning fleet of Dalek warships is a different proposition. If you think about it the Time War would not have been a problem if the Dalek tech was not almost at Time Lord level.

I don't know if it's been mentioned before, but this was Billie Piper's first proper acting role. She was a semi-big teen music star in the UK when she was cast and there was immense doubt she would be able to act with the calibre Christopher Eccleston could, and she proved everybody wrong from Day 1.

1. The reason Christopher Eccleston was only around for only 13 episodes was because he had a falling out with the producers and reportedly didn't like the work enviorment. Which is a shame because I think a lot of fans really grew to appreciate him as time went on, making his short tenure as the 9th Doctor feel like it had a lot of missed potential. But it was still *fantastic* while it lasted. 2. On the bright side, his departure marks the arrival of David Tennant's *10th Doctor* and with him begins a *golden age* of Doctor Who. There's a reason he is STILL synonymous with the character; his era is just THAT good (despite not being immune to having a few stinker episodes)
@patkillian5925

Also on the bright side, a few years ago, Big Finish managed to convince him to come record the equivalent of 3 more "seasons" worth of audio with him as the doctor before he meets Rose and there are some truly fantastic new moments with the 9th Doctor in there 🥰

I read that Eccleston couldn't stand how some of the people in charge treated the crew of the show, they were yelled at and belittled in public, and when Eccleston complained to the showrunners, they dismissed it as being not important.
@purrceys7959
@purrceys7959 7 күн бұрын
@@regnadkcin6702 I'd heard Eccleston objected the director of Rose putting some of the crew at risk by having them toss a burning couch of a building. Although the director wasn't asked back for any other episodes, it was the beginning of the souring of the relationship between him and the producers/showrunners. Some of the toxicity on the set with both Noel Clarke's and John Barrowman's behaviour harassing or preying upon junior female crew didn't help. (Ecceston has never gone into detail but has made it apparent his dislike for Barrowman.)

Back in classic who (by the time of the 4th dr) it was mooted that each regeneration was a different facet of the same personality... so the 1st dr was strict and bossy, the 2nd was a charlie chaplin "fool" type person, the third was debonaire and action orientated etc etc.... some people think tennant becomes a bit too romantic in his time, but i see this as just the "emotional" facet of that same personality....

If this was all I had seen of you, I would be disappointed that you don't say more, but knowing you normally do say more changes it. The fact that you were too engrossed to comment speaks volumes about what you thought of it. Your face during it said even more. To me this was the best overall series of modern Who. Billie is fantastic, as was everyone else. We all tear up (or bawl) with this one. And I do love Jackie. Mickey has grown since the first episode. He should just let go of Rose but he can’t. Honestly as far as an actor, Billie is the best companion as an actor, especially in this series. And we have some excellent companions coming. As far as a “new” Doctor….he is different but still the same. It’s easy to forget he is not human. With Time Lords, it’s almost like changing outfits. He has a new body and thus seems a new person. But it’s external. You will see. He’s very different each time but also very much the same. Each script could fit any doctor, and coming up picture eccleston reading the lines. It would be different but still believable that he’d say them. He’d just say them a bit differently. If you want to dabble in classic, check the fourth doctor’s first episode post regeneration, called Robot. It has some great classic companions as well (Sarah Jane and the Brigadier). And picture Nine with those lines (once you get past the regeneration and into the story). You should be able to find the episode easily enough (though it’s very 1970s)

In 1814, the philosopher Pierre Simon Laplace published what may have been the first scientific articulation of causal determinism: We may regard the present state of the universe as the effect of its past and the cause of its future. An intellect which at a certain moment would know all forces that set nature in motion, and all positions of all items of which nature is composed, if this intellect were also vast enough to submit these data to analysis, it would embrace in a single formula the movements of the greatest bodies of the universe and those of the tiniest atom; for such an intellect nothing would be uncertain and the future just like the past would be the present to it. - Pierre Simon Laplace, A Philosophical Essay on Probabilities. Pretty much a description of the TARDIS and what was in Rose's head. Rose Tyler-Bad Wolf: "You are tiny. I see every atom of your existence and I divide them!"

You could see how powerful that was for you in your different reactions throughout that episode: the acting (from all concerned), the writing, the direction, the score, all of it was top notch and made this such a memorable finale. And just when you feel there’s nothing left for you to react to, there is the ninth Doctor’s regeneration to contend with. That final scene shows the brilliance of Christopher Eccleston. As The Doctor, he knows what’s about to happen, but even then he’s not thinking of himself. In those final few seconds of his ninth life, he spends that time trying to reassure Rose and prepare her for what’s about to happen to him, even though he won’t have any idea how she’ll cope reacting to the 10th Doctor because his Doctor will no longer exist as a physical being once regeneration has occurred. All of his thoughts and memories will live on in the 10th Doctor, and it’ll be up to the new guy to explain to Rose what’s actually happened to him. Thank you, Christopher Eccleston, for seeking out this role in the first place. You took on this part, embraced it and gave a “fantastic” performance as this battle scarred Doctor who, when we first meet him, is suffering from PTSD after causing and witnessing the destruction of two races (one of which was he own) by his own hands at the end of the great Time War. With the Time War now over, the Doctor arrives on Earth and meets Rose Tyler, a 19 year old teenager who is drifting aimlessly in life until a chance meeting at a department store flings the two of them together. They are both what each other needed at that time, and slowly but surely, Rose reignites the Doctor’s love and passion for wandering through time and space. In return, the Doctor shows Rose the wonders of the universe and opens her eyes to endless possibilities as she travels with him. Goodbye, Christopher Eccleston. Hello, David Tennant. The King is dead. Long live the King. Can’t wait for your reactions to the 10th Doctor, as well as to new (and not so new) villains and other blasts from the past in Doctor Who: season 2!

Eccleston’s performance in his final moments is incredible. He’s not only addressing Rose who’s very confused and worried, but also the audience of new fans who first got into Doctor Who with this revival, who are also confused and worried, and crying the rest of their tears out. He holds back the regeneration process to tell Rose and the audience, that “this is going to be ok, I’ll change, I’ll look like a whole new man, but I’m still the same, and rather than scare you more, I’m going to do it with a grinning smile”. He’s not down emotionally, he’s not screaming in pain or crying himself as he regenerates, he’s smiling from ear to ear to reassure us that things will be fine. Enter, David Tennant. The lonely god. The dashing hero with side burns, big hair and Chuck Taylors of my childhood. Eccleston was a unique war ravaged spark to reignite the show, but Tennant is a powerhouse who took it above and beyond into a modern cultural phenomenon. I cannot wait to see what you make of his acting.
