This episode isn't well thought of, although it can get unfairly hammered by fans as if it has no redeeming features. I broadly agree with what you had to say about it, except that (in principle) the father part of the plot works for me. I like the very ordinary, domestic quality of the setting, even though it added to the feeling that they were trying to avoid spending money this season. What wrecks the story is the cheesiness of how the missing people were returned, the Doctor becoming the Definitely Not The Olympics torchbearer, and the dialogue laying it on thick about "love". However, that Tardis gag at the beginning is an absolute classic, and the "Fingers on lips!" bit made me laugh when I rewatched this last year (for the first time since 2006). The marmalade bit is a good character moment, and a welcome reminder that this Doctor is still an alien and not just a handsome English hero. Lol about singing kids! You were trying to remember Schrödinger's Cat. Back in "The Empty Child", Dr Constantine says "Before this war began I was a father and a grandfather, now I'm neither, but I'm still a doctor", to which the Doctor replies "I know the feeling".

I didn't mind this one. I don't think it deserves the hate it gets. I am a fan of Nina Sosanya and feel she was sort of wasted here. But I liked the story well enough. I suspect it was inspired by a 1980s film called Paperhouse in which a little girl's drawings came to life but in a different way. She goes into the drawings. And there is a scary father in that movie, too. How is the last rating our fault? hahah.

Yes, I agree with you about Sosanya.

This, like Boom Town, was a replacement script for one that didn't finalise. A look to the immediate future - London 2012 from 2006. The stadium was Wales's Millennium stadium (classically a Rugby stadium, currently sponsored name Principality stadium), Cardiff. Its interior was used for the bunker corridors & stairwell in Dalek. *deleted London 2012 trivia*

This episode was a very late replacement for a episode that fell though. which i think is why its not as good as it could have been. I think it was a Steven Fry script that wasn't made. He was supposed to do one this series. Great improvement next episode though. love your reactions.

The idea of drawings coming to life is potentially a very strong one, though we feel it was explored much better in the 1972 ATV serial 'Escape Into Night'. There's a clip here to show how spooky 'Fear Her' could have been... kzbin.info/www/bejne/apbMe2yZgLhod8U

@@nicologikreacts Although 'Doctor Who' often scared children, there are quite a few other shows from the 1970s that were equally spooky. great reaction as usual things I liked about this episode 1. as being a drawing fan I loved the CGI that was put into making the drawings feel and seem real. 2. good that Chloe and her Mother were fine by the end of the episode, after the rubbish they had been put thought they deserved to be ok and happy. 3. glad to see everyone else was ok same thing they and the animals didn't deserve to be captured in the drawings. 4. seeing the cat was lovely and knowing that rose is a cat person happy face things I didn't like 1. I didn't like that the alien was inside Chloe's body that was crossing a line why couldn't the alien have been inside Chloe's mind it would have been a lot less scary and would have made a lot more sense seeing as Chloe's brain wasn't her's for the hole episode until the end episode. 2. I'm gonna say it again I don't like the sad backstory with the parents or in this case parent being cut out of the story I feel it is a lazy way of making the viewer immediately feel sorry for the character or characters and that prompts for the viewer to like them because of feeling sorry for them. 3. I felt this episode was to slow there was so much blinding up that in the end there was only a little bit of action for me a good doctor who episode should have an equal amount of Quick and slow and as soon as one is more than the other it tips the balance if the episode is to slow then it feels like the episode is lazy and that the viewer themselves want to speed it up, and if the episode is too fast then there's no time to process key information which makes a viewer want to re wind the episode and understand it better. thats why I like two parters because the episodes have time to set up the story and then fling in the action when needed.

Hi Meredith, I'm Nicole's moderator for spoilers. Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed comment! However, after thinking about it, I've realised I need to ask you to edit it, please, in order to remove the bit about the Doctor's children (everything from "so when the doctor said" to "they would be adults"). My reason for asking this is because Nicole doesn't like knowing in advance what *won't* be in a future episode, just as much as she doesn't like knowing what *will* be in a future episode. If I tell her your comment isn't a spoiler, that also tells her that what you've explained won't be explained by the show itself in a story she hasn't seen yet. I hope that makes sense to you?
@meredithgrace43372 жыл бұрын
@@andrewgwilliam4831 I completely understand I'm editing the comment now and from me to You and Nicola I do apologise thank you for commenting this, I will be much more careful in future.

Yeah not a favourite of mine this episode. Don't worry it's not a popular one among the fandom either even David Tennant thought the writing of this episode was just lazy like the episode itself it's a scribbled episode. This came out 6 years before the 2012 Olympics.
@andrewgwilliam48312 жыл бұрын
Hi joshua, I'm Nicole's moderator for spoilers. Could you edit your comment to remove the last sentence, please? If I tell Nicole your comment is free of spoilers, the implication is that she won't learn more about what the Doctor said in a future episode, and for her it's just as important to not know in advance what *isn't* in future episodes as what *is* in them. I hope that makes sense to you? Thank you in advance.
