Doctor Who - The Shepherd’s Boy (1986) - REMASTERED

You asked for it! And here it is.
The Shepherd's Boy as it may have sounded in 1986 with the Sixth Doctor.
I remastered the track by altering some of the instruments and remixing the stereo. I tried to make this sound more consistent with the sounds used for Doctor Who at the time, including by replacing the electric guitar that kicked in for the climax on the previous version.
There's still a bit of audio compression on this, and I apologise for that, I'm unsure how to preserve it as much as possible using free video editing software (any tips, suggestions are most welcome!)
I also added some very hasty and sloppy photoshops to go with it - the poor quality is (hopefully) masked by the starfield in the background.
I'm unsure who made the original MIDI this is based on, it may be dKmps on Musecore.
Enjoy!

That just gave me a super cool idea. Have big finish give certain scripts for stories featuring certain doctors and give them to other doctors. I’d love to hear an audio version of heaven sent starring Colin baker or McCoy!

I've always thought that it was Peri's death that finally turned the Doctor against the Time Lords. For them to kill someone so close to him, then try to turn it around as his own fault, must've destroyed any kinship he still held with them.

Since the 6th doctor is my favorite classic doctor and 12th is my favorite modern doctor, I must say I love this. The sixth doctor was definitely overlooked and deserves more love!

Trapped in the Matrix, thinking he is finding evidence that will absolve him of the crimes of which the High Council has charged him, only to be stuck in an endless loop, at the behest of the Valeyard, who uses it as a means of wearing him down until he is too tired to continue professing his innocence. Within this wretched prison, the Doctor spends what he thinks is thousands upon thousands of years, attempting to break free, but it seems that as he grows more and more accustomed to the machinations of the Matrix, he finds evidence that someone was here before, and another truth is lying beneath the surface, one that alludes to the true purpose of the Valeyard, and just what was within the previously testimony that was edited.

(The TARDIS console flickers, alarms blaring. The Sixth Doctor, stands with his back to Mel, his hands clasped behind him. He knows the situation is dire, but there's nothing he can do but accept what's happening. Mel watches with wide, worried eyes.) Doctor: Tick-tock, Mel, tick-tock. The sands of this old fool's hourglass are running out. Always dramatic, the Rani, isn't she? Couldn't just let a man fade like a forgotten melody, oh no. Must light the whole theatre on fire first. It's very her style. (He turns, his face grim, eyes narrowed.) Doctor: You, Mel, you shouldn't be here. This is no place for a china doll in a storm. But here you are, loyal to the end, bless your cotton socks. I'll admit, I didn't always make it easy for you, did I? All bluster and vinegar, a wasp on a sugar high. But under this gruff exterior, Mel, there beats a pair of hearts, and they've ached more times than I care to count. (He sighs, a weary gust of wind through the console room.) Doctor, to nobody in particular: Oh, Peri, you remember her, Doctor? Sweet Peri, with her fire and her fear, a bird trapped in a gilded cage. And then, gone. Snuffed out like a candle in the wind, all because the Council of Time Lords couldn't resist tinkering with my life. A clever trick, the Time Lords called it. A callous, unforgivable violation is what I call it. Haunts me still, that scream of hers, the one I imagine echoing through the corridors of time. (He walks to the console, his hand brushing across the worn controls.) Doctor: Evelyn Smythe, bless her soul, she saw through me, didn't she? That sharpness behind my eyes, the bite in my tongue. But she saw the good too, the spark of a decent man struggling to get out from under the ice. And Charlotte, oh, Charlotte, a whirlwind of chaos and courage, reminding me that life's not all about grand pronouncements and cosmic chess games. Sometimes, the greatest adventures are found in a cup of tea and a good gossip. (He turns back to Mel, a hint of a smile playing on his lips.) Doctor: Mel, I'm not proud of all my scars, of the doors I slammed and the bridges I burned. But I did the best I could, every time. Faced the monsters, swallowed the fear, and kept moving forward, even when the path ahead was nothing but stardust and shadows. (He stretches out a hand, his fingers brushing hers.) Doctor: So, here we are, at the precipice. This regeneration, it's a chance. A chance to be better, to do more, to touch the universe with a gentler hand. And Mel, my dear, I pray to the stars that the man who steps out of this storm is worthy of the legacy I leave behind. (The alarms crescendo, the TARDIS shudders. The Sixth Doctor throws back his head and laughs, a wild, defiant sound, nearly a mad howl, an echo of his unhinged beginning.) Doctor: To the future then! And may it be glorious, may it be kind, may it be everything I never quite managed to be. Onwards, Mel! Onwards! EXCELSIOR! (He closes his eyes, the TARDIS glows around him. Mel cries out, but there's nothing she can do. The Sixth Doctor's form shimmers, wavers, and then... the Tardis rocks as another blast from the Rani throws the regenerating Doctor and Mel face first into the console, knocking them out) (Fade to black, and cue the events of Time And The Rani, introducing the Seventh Doctor)

back then I realized 6/Peri and 12/Clara had a lot of parallels. the girls having to watch their young, handsome looking Doctor suddenly regenerating into a more abrasive, mature chap, and the Doctor himself struggling to adapt to their bossy, feisty companion. they fight, they argue, but both of them eventually grow attached to one another just to get painfully separated in the end. oh if only Colin got to have such an epic regeneration speech like Peter's... but I bet he would absolutely kill it if he got to read the shepherd's boy, like Mccoy did with the Pandorica speech. anyways excellent job and thanks for coming to my TED talk lol 😅

I've said it before, and I shall say it again. This could work as the doctor's theme. Not any one, all of them. It's hopeful, but not happy. It's melancholic, but not depressing. It's a song that represents their unyielding will. A man who will stop at nothing to do what he believes is right. Who's seen countless tragedies, and inflicted nearly as many. A man who has been through hell, and will go through it, for curiosity's sake, for a friend. The Doctor will never stop, in any and all incarnations. It can also show his curiosity, his want and desire to see more. I can see him wandering through a bizarre planet where plants grow purple and the sun shines green because of the atmosphere. Traveling through the stars and cosmos, watching as a star goes supernova nearby. So much out there, with one man, in a box, traveling to see it. It's a wonderous song that's as hopeful and melancholic as it is curious and mystifying. It's as though the song is saying "Yes, these are things he sees every day, and they are just as fascinating as they seem."

@@hellsw0rth 1: "I will be back. I do not know when, but someday, I shall be back." "Here we Go, the long way around." 3: "Sarah Jane. Do not cry, while there's life left." 4: "It's the end, but the moment has been prepared for." His speech on Homo Sapiens being indomitable might work as well. 10: His speech about Galifray on New New York would work well. 11: "I'm the doctor. Basically: Run." Most of these moments could work well with the song playing.
