Cells At Work: Code Black was an awesome manga, and now they’ve finally made the anime! We talk about the depressing journey of a red blood cell, platelets, an irritable stomach, the dangers of smoking, bacteria, carbon monoxide poisoning, antibiotics, and those savage white blood cells! This was just the first episode of Code Black though, which one should I watch next?
I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

I actually started to take care a bit more because of the original not-depressive Cells At Work, which made me love my cells a lot. Like, I am not taking fever medicine anymore if I get sick a bit, unless the fever is unbearably high. I feel so sad for my lost cells if I paper cut or knife cut my fingers tinily etc. Black, didn't make me take any extra caution because it showed me stuff that ı was already guessing that I was causing by smoking cigarette. It is like the words written on a cigarette pack, we already know them :S Sad, but true. It however made me bawl my eyes out on that one before the last episode.

Biology teachers should recommend the manga and the anime to their students. I like how the first one is about a healthy body, Code Black is about an unhealthy body but I agree with the notion there should be one about pregnancy or even an infant how a human develops.

This isn’t really a season 2, it’s like a spin-off in a different person’s body. In the first series the Red blood cells would swap their jackets in and out to indicate them carrying oxygen. They would use a lighter red when they are oxygenated and then flip it so the dark red was more prominent when they aren't carrying oxygen. In this episode though it looks like the contrast between the two reds is smaller. Which I guess is indicating poor oxygen absorption?

My mom got pneumonia by the December 2019, and she almost died; one of the aggravating factors was that her boss smoke, and the air vent that goes out of his room blows right to my mom's desk; so for years she was breathing all that smoke because he refused to get out to smoke; we only discovered that because one of the nurses in training(?, I'm not really sure of the name on english, I think it's EMT but I may be wrong) accidentally perforated her lung while trying to put a needle to do another exam, and after yelling at the poor guy the doctor saw the black liquid and said to the other nurses to drain it, it was nicotine and it was occupying a good chunk of my mom's lungs (the doctor apologized to the nurse later too, that guy's mistake saved my mom so we're really grateful); this was one of the main factors of why she got so bad, she was in an induced comma for 15 days, and she only remember things almost a 2 weeks after first waking up. At least her boss now smokes less and goes out to smoke after a major client that really likes my mom yelled to his face that he almost killed my mom (I mean, he wasn't entirely wrong), so he's not damaging anyone else's health anymore, just his own.

@@rev.rachel it was really scary, specially after everyone at home got pneumonia (considering all the symptoms she had, we think it might have been covid, but who know; and I must say: pneumonia sucks, I've never valued the fact that I can breathe without being in pain everytime my lungs move as much as I do now), but yeah, luckily mom's back and alright; with just some minor side effects like her bones hurting a little, a minor shortness of breath due to the scars on her lungs, and her random nonsensical outbursts are a bit more frequent now (I mean, she argued with me abou mental map being an ideological name for a diagram last week, so that's something), nothing that really affects her health thought, in fact if her near death experience of getting to heaven's door and being sent back is something, she has at least 40 years more to live; so she's doing fine, stressed and hot headed as always, being the mom I know and love even though she yells for weird stuff sometimes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Bacteriophages are deadly creatures, but thankfully don’t harm healthy human cells at all, and goes straight for the bacteria. There’s something called bacteriophage, which is like a targeted antibiotic, except it’s way more helpful.

And if bacteria are 100% immune to all antibiotics, we can just use bacteriophages, but if bacteria get resistant to those, then we can use antibiotics. We've just trapped bacteria... after pharmacies consider bacteriophage treatment safe.

No they don't work the same way. They also have a lot of issues (extremely narrow spectrum, could propagate unwanted genes etc.), which prevent them to be used as widely as antibiotics... Also, it takes time to diagnose a patient whether he has bacteria that have resistance or not, so it's still the best to keep the resistance low.

The one where our main character literally lost his motivation to work because of depression...gee, I sure don't know anybody who's been suffering from that for years in real life, no sirree...! And the one where the cells all start literally yelling futilely into the void for the body to "DO SOMETHING!" really got me too.
