About 20 years ago I decided to be the family bad guy and suggested we end all gift giving and just share a meal. To my great surprise everyone was so relieved. We usually watch Christmas Vacation for the hundredth time. My favourite scene is where Clark sits alone in his attic watching old home movies from his childhood.

My daughter and son in law only come over for the day on Christmas eve. Every year one of us picks a movie to watch. The funnier the better. I always hated having to miss out because I had to cook a big meal that none of us were hungry for, also, they get Turkey dinner at his mom's house the next day. Thus, the Christmas lasagne was born. Prepared the day before, I just put it in the oven. It's great.😂

Thanks I needed that! I’ve been completely isolated and alone for years except for my amazing sweetheart dog Bodhi. He died and I can’t find my way out of the grief and utter loneliness. He was my only reason for living. I am going to see a therapist as soon as possible. My favorite Christmas movie is Bad Santa. Billy Bob is hilarious and I love watching him evolve due to his relationship with the kid. Surprise heartwarming ending. Also John Ritter is priceless! Merry Christmas ❤

My kids are adults but one is traveling cross country with a baby and one is disabled so it’s not an option to stop doing Christmas. I was Christmas shopping one year and the store was playing sad Christmas songs. I was already so far over the edge with being depressed that I left the store without buying anything. That was many years ago and I was dealing with a lot of different things. Some Christmas songs are so emotional and stress can make it worse. I miss my parents all the time but Christmas time is even harder. It's just me and my two siblings and one is estranged. I have 10 nephews and two nieces and have spent many years buying them ideal gifts. All but 4 are grown now and 2 are far away and not seen but once or twice a year. Christmas is usually an expensive time but I don't buy beyond my means. I retired a few years ago and now only buy for the little ones. Our world changed with the pandemic and has never returned to what it once was. We went through two Christmas's with social distancing and many are still afraid to hug. There are many things that cause stress at Christmas. One of the things that makes me sad is the loved ones I've lost. I've lived alone for quite a few years but I've never relied on someone else to make me happy. I've been watching Christmas movies since the first week of November. I've started watching other things because TV Christmas movies only have 3 plots. But I love the classics like White Christmas, Miracle on 34th Street (both versions), The Holiday, Love Actually, Christmas Vacation, the first Die Hard, Scrooged and a few others. But I'm a compulsive list maker, I love making lists! That's why I can't list just one or two movies. What a Christmas movie does is give you hope and it triggers your memory of past years. It usually puts you in a good mood and makes you look forward to nice traditions. But Christmas is also a time for accepting and keeping things realistic. Did you really say, "See you next year"!😱 That's 11 days away!😢 Wishing you a very Merry Christmas! Thanks for another wonderful year of amazing videos!😚

@@YUmMies24 You need minerals in your water. Distilled water can lead to mineral deficiency. Tap water is safe to drink and your water supplier has to have testing done and make a report available. Different regions do have different minerals in their natural water supply which is what leads to different tastes. There are limits on what can be present. The only reason to drink something else is for taste.

Please do one on how to handle holidays after losing family. Some of us do not have stress..but miss ours. Ppl who lose sons or daughters, adult orphans..particularly if the parents were fab. Ppl tend to be there the 1st year..but a couple years later..you' d think you have cooties.😢

@IMeMineWho2 күн бұрын
@@barbarakelly1916 I am an activist and have been for years on various issue, but adult orphans as well as parents who lose children have an unimaginable pain which unless you have gone through it, you cannot comprehend. "Getting out of ones' self may be easier if you merely go through a job loss or divorce, but adult orphans are 4% of the population in the States and the minority most in need of help themselves..whether it be the MediCare and social security Americans are in danger of losing, or food stamps..and believe it or not, there is stigma attached to being an adult orphan..just like parents who lose children have to deal with issues like anger that few can relate to. Asking an adult orphan to "be involved with a charity" while in the throes of depression, loss and isolation as well as perhaps dealing with things like legal matters that may overwhelm, ppl who cannot empathesize..whether out of ignorance or fear is insensitive. Many adult orphans are exhausted dealing with the day to day alone. Example: an adult orphan trying to dispose or assemble a large item is just one. Fyi: I brought home vax to my small city the year after a huge loss, I donate clothes, raise funds for an animal charity..yet there are far fewer ppl who can relate to such a devastating loss..or who care to. Ask ANY adult orphan or person who has lost children. Ppl seem to be able to empathesize with a divorce or the loss of a single parent. The loss of a child or the loss of both parents and ppl cannot relate. I could not at the time when a friend had lost his last parent. He valiantly tried giving Xmas parties for mere acquaintances (including myself and a friend of mine)..then one day he lost his job and then no one saw him in town after that. Save the cliched answer please. Sometimes the best thing to do is just to say "I do not understand your pain, your (child or parents as the case may be) were wonderful. I know I am not THEM..but I am here for you." I guarantee you that is a far more empathetic thing to write or say than your well-meaning..but ignorant answer. Ppl suffering such loss frequently were there for others and find it disheartening when no one is there for them.
@IMeMineWhoКүн бұрын
@@barbarakelly1916 Your response shows that you have never experienced being an adult orphan or the loss of a child. I am an activist and a performer. There is a HUGE difference between being lonely and the pain of missing both your parents or a child you have lost. And you are truly ignorant of the fact that adult orphans as a group are the MOST vulnerable and rely on safety nets such as social security, Medicaid and MediCare. Your response whole well-meaning shows how little empathy you actually have of what adult orphans face. The holidays you do not necessarily miss seeing ppl, you miss ppl who know you and care for you! Read up on what most adult orphans experience! You cannot fathom what ppl who lose their children or are an adult orphan face. You miss your CHILD or your PARENTS..and endless ads just assume you have family! Ppl write cliched responses like yours wwhich are well-meaning..but incredibly insensitive! I sAng in tributes, have many years of activism or involvement in charities..I listened to adult orphans long before I experienced..and the number one thing all adult orphans said to me is they missed the love of their parents..they missed that ppl cared about THEM! Most adult orphans are givers; the stigma of being one and the embarrassment to admit that WE need understanding as well as giving it are universal among adult orphans. Your advice shows insensitivity. A far better response would be: "I cannot imagine the depth of pain that losing BOTH your parents and facing so many things that go along with what you have lost (or losing your child if that is the case), but know I care am I am here and here to listen. Most adult orphans I know ARE givers; there is even more sadness that few are there for ppl like us when we need it. Adult orphans are 4% of the population in the US..bUT THE minority group most in need of the few safety nets that the US is in danger of losing. Please refrain from your (obvious "helpful advice. Most of us are already activists or looking for ways to be social; it is true understanding of the loss we have faced that we need..not obvious "suggestions."😑

We don’t think there was any ill intent. Everyone’s experience is obviously very unique and losing a child is horrific. Sorry you are having a difficult time and we hope it gets better.
@IMeMineWhoКүн бұрын
@TalkingWithDocs Thank you. I know there was not, but ppl need to know that sometimes I am there for you is what is needed. Adult orphans are forgotten around the holidays as are (ironically) the disabled, the immunocompromised and those who have lost children. People often do not know what to say or they think they can relate..but if they cannot, the best thing to do is just to say "I am here for you" and BE THERE..or just offer a hug. Thank you docs.

There's something wrong with the direction our society has taken when the year-end holidays are more stressful than enjoyable. Don't you think?
@barbarakelly19162 күн бұрын
Our holiday times (and other times) are what we make them. . We don't have to go down the Stress Rabbit Hole. Look at what folks in other challenging times did to make things bright. Examples: Depression and Wartime strategies for enjoyment. In the French settlements in what is now Canada, and in the Hudson's Bay Company's trading days, there was "The Order of Good Cheer", in which people contributed to make winter more bearable.

Refuse to travel during holidays and use any excuse from weather to your egg nog addiction. Traveling during holidays is too stressful and the relatives you're going to visit will be less stressed if you don't show up anyway. If they insist and make you feel guilty, tell them you just adopted 3 pitbull dogs that aren't socialized so you'll have to bring them if you come because the dog sitter is away and the kennel is full.
