Interesting variation on Street. I never thought about that particular ideas before. Some nice final pics , especially the eye contact ones.

Thanks Paul. In some ways it was easier than traditional street photography as many of the people there wanted to be photographed...

Hi Gary. No matter what the genre, you produce great images. These are true portraits. Well done 👍

Dare I say it Gary, but you definitely seem more confident and happier in this genre of photography, and you are very good at it. Getting stuck right in! good on ya!

Thanks very much, thats very kind of you to say 🙂 I do very much enjoy being on the streets with my camera, and probably should do it more often 🙂

Thanks Ian, it was actually easier than doing street because many of the people there wanted the attention.

Bloody racist! 😁 That was a very enjoyable highly watchable classic Gary Norman video. Bit of storytelling, nicely edited, and some great photos. Loved it mate, more of these, and watch this channel soar!

Always get some interesting characters at a march. Great for portraits and you got some good ones.

Thanks Sheila, I think the fact that they were almost courting the attention made it alot easier 🙂

Great photos. I get a buzz photographing protest marches.

Thanks very much, I can totally relate to that because once it got started I really enjoyed getting in amongst it!
@iainmc98598 ай бұрын
I've shot a few marches in my time, although I generally prefer the celebratory type, Pride week etc. I think inevitably they always turn into informal portrait sessions if there's no colourful element going on, which you may as well do on a phone if you're in amongst it, rather than carrying wide lenses, or sniping with a longer lens from a vantage point.

It's a sad indictment on to days society that a photographer has to just his role as a photographer to document every day life🙁 I'm so pleased you found your mojo please keep it ❤

Thanks Peter, I felt I had to say something because the last march I photographed was the anti-brexit march and everyone assumed my stance on the subject based solely on the fact that I was there photographing it!

Nice one Gary you done well, the closer you got in the more interesting it got the last demo I covered I was cautioned by the police for waving a heavy object around (my camera) with a 35mm lens on! they was not concerned about the bottles and cans being thrown! its all good fun though! Thanks for sharing your pictures with us.....

Thanks mate, the police were quite chilled on this one even though they were getting dogs abuse from the marchers!

Glad it turned out ok in the end Gary, great to see you back enjoying your photography again, the images seem to be paying off for it. Been over a year since I was in London, was only there a few hours then too, way back in January 2023, and that was only because my mate had a meeting cancelled and the train tickets were non refundable, hopefully I’ll get there a couple of times this year, if the bloody train prices calm down a bit that is.

I hope that you manage to get back into London soon mate 🙂

Interesting. Enjoyed the video, and really liked some of the photos (Jezza could at least have smiled for you 😁). Not sure its something I’d necessarily bust a gut to go and photograph, but who knows? Never say never perhaps?

Cheers mate, the transition is called an edge detect wipe, it's on Davinci but via a third party pack. I could take a look at the exact pack if you like, but I cant remember it off the top of my head...

Back in the 80's i was in film school here in Ottawa. I decided to head out and film a protest at the Iraq embassy...forget what the issue was, but there was a lot of lead up to the event so i figured it would be good. So i was standing and filming with my Beaulieu camera (i loved that camera) and just wasn't paying attention when i heard someone shout..cameraman...you with the camera...so i looked over my shoulder and saw a line of riot police, one yelling at me to move behind them!!! Ha it scared the crap out of me so i ran back between the police to where the media were. That was the last protest i filmed alone without someone to watch what was going on when i was filming!!! e!!!

Hi Gary, i must admit i was a bit concerned about the subject matter BEFORE watching, but you made the video your style of engaging candid and simply honest documentary. Really enjoyed it. My favourite image was St Paul’s through the bridge quite early on, but there were plenty of others i liked too. Did you give Jezza Corbin a lemon to suck on as he didn’t look too pleased to see you
