Kipchoge, Bekele, Haile and Hicham El Guerrouj made many people fall in love with athleticism. Pure talent, commitment and passion. Performing at a high level for a long time. Many people can perform at a lower level for a long time or perform at a high level for a short period, but very few can perform at a high level for a long period.

the only reason why people can’t perform at a high level for a long period of time is that they can’t sustain that kind of living, these profesional athletes get paid to run, to perform at their peak~their very best. And that’s the standard imposed on then. But if you’re an average joe who needs to work and doesn’t have a lot of free time, consistency is very hard.

When I lived in Wyoming I trained at about 7,200 feet of elevation 5 days a week on mountain roads that were 1/2 a mile in length and longer. When I returned to my hometown of Omaha, Nebraska I would sign up for 10K races, and it was like so much easier running running at 1,089 feet above sea level, and at 40 years of age ran my best time of 39:45, not bad for a former fat guy cigarette smoker.

Yes, and I was shocked that I went that fast after a night of heavy eating (sloppy joes, potato chips, chocolate cookies, and lots of beer), and only about 6.5 hours of sleep. There’s was a misty rain for the entire race, and the first 3.1 miles was a very slight downhill. I was shocked that I had made my goal time!

Sometimes I ask myself, why don't you let them talk more elaborately in their native languages and just translate that? Not that they of course can speak english and should be let to do so. But I wonder if they could give a better inside to their knowledge, when language is not an issue

There is oxygen in the air. Same amount on any altitude it’s the partial pressure that makes it difficult to inhale. That’s it. So stop that madness “no oxygen” at 2200 m of altitude.

Sucks to be someone with thalassemia... by birth you are already significant disadvantageous in running, with lower haemoglobin than others. i wonder if running at altitude can boost that to the normal range

I’ve never tried altitude training but the concept sparks my interest a lot and can’t wait to do it some day. I primarily do swimming but also distance running and cycling so it will definitely make a significant impact on my endurance and athletism i think
