You should have talked about pulling the coolant plug on the water pump so when you feel it with coolant you wait till the coolant starts coming out of that port on the water pump. It's just a 3/8 inch drive plug and that's the back side of the thermostat. It could save somebody an engine as it will keep the air pockets out. 😅 It was a really good video by the way.

Great video. Very thorough. Thinking of buying a 2005 clean 1500 fully loaded with 149k and bad head gaskets. Still debating but the head gaskets seem easier than my old Mopar 440 engine's.

Currently doing this exact job on my 2015 5.7. Shouldn’t this be possible without draining the coolant? I’ve already replaced the radiator, ac condenser, coolant hoses, and water thermostat.
@ashleythomas52162 жыл бұрын
Uh no cuz coolant runs through the ports to cool the engine. If you do t drain you’ll make a giant mess and contaminate everything under the hood!

Im working on my 09 Ram 2500 5.7 Hemi. I have heard conflicting comments on oiling the head bolts. Some say the bolts on these don't sit in any oil lines or coolant jackets, so oiling them and running them down into an inclosed sleeve will throw the torque readings off. What is your thought?
@austinaldridge150 Жыл бұрын
Torque reading isn’t off, it’s the fact that it’s now a lubricated bolt in a high vibration position. A little oil won’t hurt HOWEVER if you slather the bolt in oil more than a chicken breast in a fryer at popeyes your gonna have issues.

I have a question I just rebuilt my engine on my 07 charger RT 2 days ago and today I noticed that my coolant kept going down I put another gallon and same thing won’t fill up. But I checked the dip stick and it was creamy the coolant and the oil mixed. But how can that be the head gasket is brand new. I’m not over heating and their is no white smoke coming out of the exhaust what do you think it could be.
@erichedberg29072 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a blown head gasket.
@rafaelfuentes75722 жыл бұрын
@@erichedberg2907 no I figured it out the machine shop that replaced my driver side head gave me a passenger side head instead they told me they were interchangeable, nope 👎 the the coolant passage was going straight into the oil passage in the head. They replaced it with correct head this time and my car is back to running like a champ👍👍

Does it hurt if you don’t have it machined/resurfaced at a shop or is that a necessary thing to do? 5:46
@austinaldridge150 Жыл бұрын
It can, your head gasket blew for a reason. You don’t just replace the gasket otherwise it has a high chance of blowing again. You machine the surfaces to remove any potential imperfections or gaps so the head gasket is flush and makes a completely even seal. You also can have the machinist inspect the head and make sure there’s not any major cracks throughout. If there is a deep crack you will have to replace the head due to the fact too much material will be taken away and the head becomes useless.

What was wrong with the Resorvoir?
@brandonfrasier453713 күн бұрын
In some cases when you blow a head gasket it will push exhaust gases into your coolant system and can cause the reservoir to crack
