going around to all the different oil change videos looking for a good method to get that cap off easier. have been struggling with this since I was 16 and just got the truck, 18 still struggling today

Yeah those plastic caps can get on there pretty tight. A large pair of channel lock pliers may work, or a strap style filter wrench if you have one.

The oil drain plug link in your description says it doesn't fit my 04 Dodge Dakota 😭
@TonyTheTruckGuy
@TonyTheTruckGuy 2 жыл бұрын
Hmm that’s strange. I wonder if they didn’t list any vehicle fitment at all on Amazon and just expect people to know the thread pitch. I guess I would search for one that says it does fit just to be safe. I’ll look into that link and see if it’s the right plug and change it if I need to. Thanks for letting me know!

@@mattaKajohnnny Not sure what engine you have, but I googled “2004 dodge Dakota oil drain plug” and all of them that come up are an M14x1.5 thread pitch, which should be the same as the one I have linked. I think they just didn’t list all the compatible vehicles on Amazon.

What is the best oil to use with the 4.7 with 125k???
@TonyTheTruckGuy
@TonyTheTruckGuy 5 жыл бұрын
Certain people will argue with you until they are blue in the face claiming that you need to run Amsoil, Royal Purple, or some other big dog fancy oil. Typically, I just make sure I’m using the proper weight that the manufacturer recommends and then pick a brand and stick with it. I’ve run cheap oil in many vehicles without issue. I try to use a synthetic blend of full synthetic if you can afford it just because it’s a better oil and you can go longer before changing it. Once you get to the 150-200k plus range, I recommend a high mileage synthetic. If you notice your oil pressure is slightly low at higher miles, I might bump it up from say a 5w-30 to a 5w-40, as the 40 weight is slightly thicker and will help maintain better pressure. That pressure loss is typically due to worn engine components creating not as tight of an oil channel anymore so the proper fix would be a new oil pump and rebuild engine, but in the case of this Dakota, it still had decent oil pressure even at idle with warm engine and it had about 180k on it. It’s now over 200k and still running strong, so I’ve been sticking with the 5w-30 high mileage. I use valvoline because they have been around a long time and it’s a higher grade oil but typically cheaper than Amsoil, Royal Purple, Mobil, etc.

Tony The Truck Guy im just worried about the hydraulic lifters i want then to get the proper caring they need i do t want them to start tapping away im currently running 15-40 none synthetic but i wanna switch it to either 10-30 or 5-30/40 with half quart of marvel mystery oil eah change.
@TonyTheTruckGuy
@TonyTheTruckGuy 5 жыл бұрын
15w-40 is pretty thick for a gas engine. I’d be more concerned with lifters not getting proper lube due to that, so I would definitely recommend the 10w-30 or 5w-30. Synthetic blends or full synthetics also offer better properties and flow better than conventional oil. I did run 15w-40 synthetic in my Subaru because that was the “Subaru thing to do” with a turbo but it was totally not necessary.
@Magnum5.9360

Tony The Truck Guy would you recommend the marvel mystery oil?
@TonyTheTruckGuy
@TonyTheTruckGuy 5 жыл бұрын
Personally, I don’t use any additives in my oil. In my opinion, if you’re using a quality oil that’s the proper rating, you shouldn’t have to. That being said, I have no experience good or bad with the Marvel. The only Marvel oil I use is for my air tools at work lol.

I have a 98 Dakota SLT 5.2..175,500 miles..I use 15/40 in the summer..more vitamins and dinosaurs. It gets hot in the south. I use 10/30 Delo synthetic in winter. 4qts Delo 1qt hyperlube. Every 3 changes I add motorkote..Change every 5000. I only use a factory filter. Theyve spent millions to research filters and recommend 5000 to 7500. So I know factory filters are designed better. Good ole M90 for the curious. I place a rare earth magnet on the filter and drain plug...and that's what I do. 😁

You are in a small majority a lot people drop valves and deal with with oil starvation issues.maybe just the 99-04 Jeep Grand Cherokee I’ve seen two engines go while 4 wheeling
@TonyTheTruckGuy
@TonyTheTruckGuy 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah it seems to be hit or miss. Mine burns a little oil but nothing too bad for the mileage. I’ve had 3 vehicles with the 4.7 and no issues but I have done 2 engine swaps in Grand Cherokees with the 4.7. Coolant in the oil every time. Seems that if the valves don’t drop, people overheat them and blow the head gaskets.

There is no reason to warm it up. All the crap is already at the bottom of the pan. At most elevate the front end a little. The Wix 51515 filter is much larger and a great upgrade. Factory change interval is 7,500 miles with conventional oil and filter. AMSOIL will save time, money, waste, and wear in the long run.

Great job! Me personally I do not leave excess oil standing in the filter so I prefer adding two or three ounces then hold filter at 80 degrees while spinning it evenly soaking the filter media. I'm sure you're fine doing it this way too. To reduce oil running all over your frame you can drape a piece of aluminum foil over it or better yet put a plastic bag around the filter while loosening it. One good thing about letting it drain this way is you don't have to worry about it rusting!

Should of replace the drain plug. And open the oil cap for better oil flow.

Lol, YOU’RE OVER THINKING IT! Not sure why you’re telling me the exact words that I said myself at 5:30ish mark. Also pointless to remove the oil cap, as the crankcase vents to the intake anyways. As you can see, I had no oil flow issues from the drain...
