Mr. Fix it All thats fantastic! My wife calls me Fix it Felix. I'm starting this job tomorrow. Getting the dash out this weekend, new evap and heater cores the following weekend, and a full new AC system on the third. Seems like a lot, but still very do-able.

Dash is out. Box is being repaired and new internals all being put in. All gets reinstalled this weekend. So, thanks again and stay safe out there everyone!

Thank you for your really good commentary on different challenges to this particular job on a first-gen Durango. So many doing these videos want to add in brain-rattling music when showing it being disassembled instead of having good, basic commentary during that process. Your advice on the tricky bolts and other things has made me decide to just go ahead and have a good shop do this job. I know it costs a lot of money, but my health is such that I just can't do good work on my vehicle like I used to be able to. It is just too taxing on me to do these big projects myself. Thanks again and have a grand New Year.

20 years as a semi truck mechanic and this job is a pain in the ass. I have the hidden bolt behind the trans tube. A novice might take all weekend to change it. Got the dash out and I'm pissed I now have to evacuate and recharge a working AC system. Shop rate to do this is nearly what the trucks worth!

Thanks. Two of us started on my 99 Dakota today. We had the heater bow out in 3 hrs. But the new heater core (car quest part) would not fit. After about 2 hrs. I had to break out tabs inside the heater box. But then it fit fine . I get break two screw mount tabs on the bottom of the heater box. So I glued them and will let it dry over night. Thanks again for that video.

I'm doing exactly what you're doing lol. Thanks for pointing out that 4th bolt on the hvac box and all the wiring. Mines ready to come out minus the wiring

Got my 2000 Dakota on a jack stand, took off the wheel and the liner, and was barely able to reach that bottom nut on the firewall. But it worked.

I have a 99 durango 5.9l It seems like Nothing works properly. Neither the heat or the a.c. I tried flushing out the heater core and it seemed to help also charged the a.c. but it does not blow cold at All.

Hey Brian, know it's been a few years, but I'm hoping your still out there. I did my heater core a few years back in my 2000 Durango and it WAS a bear, but long story short, I have great heat. My question: WTF did I break and/or forget to put back together since very little air comes from the defrost. Last winter I just popped out the front and side air grates and stuffed foam rubber around some vacuum cleaner hose. I bent a length of 12 gauge wire so the hose would stay put. Go ahead and laugh, but like Al S. , my body taint what it used to be, especially in the cold of North East Ohio. Also like Al, I can appreciate the short and very descriptive DIY video you've done, wish all of them were as good. Hope to hear back from you before I see the snow. PEACE

Hi Gary. Sounds like you have a vacuum problem. One of the things I noticed was it is way too easy to damage those tiny plastic tubes. Or it could be one of the vacuum actuator (uses vacuum to open and close and direct the vent flow).
@cornfusedatbest66937 жыл бұрын
WOW, didn't expect a reply so quick! Yesireee bob, the BLUE vacuum nipple was broken on the selector before I even started opening things up, but the defrost was working. Tried to fix it by cutting a piece of ball point pen tube, but the diameter is a tad bigger. Hell, I'll try anything once. How are you at gauges? Battery gauge isn't showing a full charge - about 11 as opposed to the normal 14. Cleaned what connections I could find but didn't help. Where should I look for this vacuum actuator? Thanx again.
@brianschweinert55257 жыл бұрын
Gary with a lack of vacuum the defrost could of been stuck in whatever the setting was previous to your repair. However behind the glove box should be one vacuum actuator, and another one should be near the rear of the radio. With the vehicle running I would listen for the hiss that would be your key to finding the issue.

I brought my 2000 Dodge Durango SLT 4x4 4.7l and the hoses to the engine were off from wall out from heating coil to engine and rh the air bag light is on and eng light is on could this be because the person before hit the sensor for the airbags

i have a 99 durango and vents stuck on defrost can find vacum leak any where replaced all under hood but i can here a hiss behind my gauges anyway to manualy put on front vents
@brianschweinert552510 жыл бұрын
There is a vacuum actuator on the far right and another slightly to the right of the gas pedal. Possibly hooking up a vacuum line directly to (not sure which one) one of then should be a temporary fix. Sorry i couldnt be more helpful.

Michael galac, sounds like a ground is missing or you are missing an ignition wire. Double Check the plugs under the dash something is missing

@brianschweinert55257 жыл бұрын
Paul Melbourne it should be a plug right where it comes into the car. you might have to fish around to find the car side of the plug. maybe drop the glove box to get a better view.

What's the line that I have to take off from the HVAC to the motor ??
@brianschweinert55257 жыл бұрын
Mr Holder I believe you are talking about either the vacuum line or the hi and low pressure lines from the pump and condenser
@playtimet.v73427 жыл бұрын
Is it easy to reinstall?
@brianschweinert55257 жыл бұрын
Once it's out and you found every bolt nut screw clip and/or connector the reinstall process is pretty straightforward.
@playtimet.v73427 жыл бұрын
Good. The hose you are talking about I didn't see other than the AC and the vacuum hose I think is I connect to the HVAC IN THE TRUCK. I GOT ALL THE BOLTS AND STUFF OFF JUST GOTTA PULL IT OUT.

IS IT EVEN WORTH THE HASSLE ? ON A OLD DODGE DURANGO PIECE OF JUNK
@brianschweinert55256 ай бұрын
If the vehicle isnt worth it just cut the heater core hoses and run a stand alone heater core fan assembly and screw it to the bottom of the dash. Its a much faster and cheaper option.
