As someone who works on cars fairly often, you just keep a mental note of what goes where. You also look at the part, and see how it attaches, then, you use the bolts to attach it. When I first started wreching, I put all the bolts in a small bag that was labeled so I knew where everything went. Now I just remember from when I pulled it apart because I've been working on cars for so long now.

i love speed up mode, makes it look so easy. lol. those bolts on the inside of the engine compartment are hard to get to, and if the truck has ac, be sure to have the lines drained, so that you can unhook them to get the box out. im doing another one of these tomorrow, and they are never quick, take your time, lol. great vid guys, very good.

Where did you get the heater core? Replacing heater core in a '99 Durango 5.9L 4x4.
@AaronNagoo10 жыл бұрын
I will be replacing my heater core soon, I will make an instructional video. Including all tools required, bolts sizes, and where I went for my parts and services. I will make it in reply to this video so people stop asking a mechanic shop to post an instructional video. It's like asking KFC for the secret recipe.

Unfortunately when I was editing I managed to delete a major portion of the job so my plan was foiled. It was pretty easy, I just let the air conditioning go in the atmosphere. Take pictures of connections to reference during rebuild.

QUESTION- a bad heater core will not heat right? mine does heat but its leaking i guess. i have coolant on the drivers side carpet. can it be the heater core or a bad connecting hose?
@TheMotoracer83811 жыл бұрын
Do you have the manufacturer name and PN of the revised heater core, I've had 2 Dakotas from new and have never liked how the heater works, I'm getting ready to do some major upgrades to the truck and this would be a perfect time to do the core.

Funny. My Brother-in-law had a old, but mint-condition used BMW 5 series. I wanted to buy it from him, but once the heater-core started leaking he said it would cost more to fix then to junk it. Sad, because that was a mint, full leather package car. BMW lost another customer.

I have a 98 Durango do I really have to rip out my dashboard?
@ericperry729 жыл бұрын
+Lauren George in almost all cars you have to pull the dash to replace a heater core. most people dont realize that a heater core is to heat the interior and the heat comes from the dash, so yes you have pull the dash.
@2020-g8s8 жыл бұрын
Its the only way. I had my heater core changed on my '98 Durango vhanged 5 years ago. While they changed that ,I had the dealer change both the evaporator & blower motor while the dash was removed. Its better that way.

It should have been added, ...if you're replacing your heater core, you may as well replace your A/C unit as well. Because you'll eventually have to remove the dashboard for the A/C, same as you would for the Heater, and it's $1,000 to remove the dash. Be smart and get them both done at once.
@jbrouhard7713 жыл бұрын
What they don't show you is that you have to take the bolt out that holds in the dipstick tube. Hard to get to is an understatement...it took me 45 minutes to take it out and put it back in...the one bolt. There is an 11mm nut behind it that has to come out to get the HVAC unit out. Overall I don't think it was that difficult. You actually don't have to take the dash all the way out and can leave the fuse block connections on the drivers side intact.
@copilotjay13 жыл бұрын
thanks for the vid! Im definitely needed this to get me on the right path, and its a much more shitty one than I expected.
@metalmaniac113010 жыл бұрын
Would it not be way easier if the manufacturer just put an access port on the firewall to remove the heater core??? How come they don't put an access port out there instead of making someone do all that? You may as well take it to the junkyard.
