Man thanks. Great video! Did a quick google search for replacing lhs rotors and your vid came up. Gave me complete confidence in replacing the front calipers, rotors and pads on my 2001 Lhs. Keeps up the awesome work.

On other drum brakes I've worked on, I've set the rear brakes by going 10 mph in reverse and hitting the brakes. Of course, you'll have to push the parking brake, but it is worth a try. The adjuster could take several attempts to adjust out far enough to seat against the wall. There could also be an adjustment procedure I'm not aware of for this vehicles parking brake. You could try searching for 'parking brake adjustment' for the Chrysler. Good luck.

Hello !! Thank you so much for your post , I have a 2003 300 m special and I am anxious to do my rear brakes as per your video , I have 1 question how ever ..concerning the foot brake . You say on the driver side to turn the threaded side down . Down towards what , before I take the rotor off, I am not sure how to reset the parking brake shoe after I have made room for the rotor to slide on .. Thanks again

07:53 They Do Wear Out, if you use'em like they should for their Purpose. But, I need a Video on how to change those Brake Shoes. Mine needs Replacement.

I am in the process of doing the brakes on a 2002 Chrysler Concorde Limited. The left rear OUTBOARD brake pad wore down and the rivets dug into the rotor, damaging it beyond repair. So I purchased a new rotor and had the good rotor barely tourched to just clean it up. I was trying to figure out why the outboard pad wore so bad, and I think I figured it out. In reassembling the pads and caliper, there's a step that says "reinstall the upper spring retractor clip, then the lower retractor clip". Well, there don't seem to be any retractor clips on the rear brakes, and I am suspecting and reasoning that the reason the pad wore so bad (the inboard was in very good shape, as were the right rear pads) is that they were not reinstalled at last brake job). However, even with a Haynes manual and photos, I cannot figure out out to get those clips installed (I have a set for front brakes and assume they are same for back brakes)....anybody have a clue?

I can't think of how to fix that off the top of my head (& without seeing it), but stuck caliper guide pins will cause that issue. The caliper should "float" over the rotor. You should be able to move the whole caliper in and out over the rotor.

+ZX2Fast Yea I took em out and greased the pretty good. The boots were still in excellent shape, so that's kind of what I was guessing. Car has only 70K original miles, and they are the OEM Brakes that came with car in '02....it's all back together and seems to work fine now. Thanks for your response.

Now on the rear brakes did you have to adjust the parking brake back after you get the caliper back on? or did you just put it all back together and just pull the parking brake and it will adjust itself back?

Hello again , thanks for your reply , I indeed was able to do my rear brakes as per your video , I how ever did not need to close in the rear boot on the drum . The new disk slid easily into place and I was able to install the pads and bolt the caliper back on and then the wheel .. Just one thing , my parking brake no longer works .. Do you have any suggestions or should I visit my local Chrysler dealer for a parking brake adjustment ??cheers :)

if you want to keep your rotor hit the larger inner circle to get it off, and for the parking brake adjustment you should use a break spoon its easier

@GodRainFire The parking brake worked just fine when he dropped it off and after the repair. The parking cable is unaffected by the work and should not need attention just because of a brake job. If the parking brake is not working, the cause lies elsewhere.

You just need to remove the brake fluid filler cap so the fluid has somewhere to go when you push the pistons of the calipers back in. The text showed up a lot better before I split the video with the editor for upload to You Tube.

thank you - Everything worked out just fine.

It isn't uncommon for the parking brake (the parts inside of the rotor hub) to come apart and make the wheel lock up. It also isn't uncommon for the caliper to lock up. Remove the caliper, if you can push the piston back in, the caliper is good. With the caliper off, you should be able to spin the rotor. If you can't spin the rotor, then the guts of the parking brake are the likely cause. It could also be a bad wheel bearing, but most likely it is the parking brake.

You might want to spray brake clean on the piston rubber before you press it back into its housing.

An easier way to remove those retainer washers is to simply cut through each side with a sharp chisel
@ZX2Fast12 жыл бұрын
You would push it from the bottom of center. On the passenger side push it on the top of center. basically, you push the driver side toward the ground and the passenger side toward the top of the car. Take note of the distance between the shoes, if you go the right way, they'll get closer to each other, if not, they will move away from each other.

u messed up :) not checked the caliper guides/ polishing and lubing them before assembly. your rear calipers are still sticking on the pins thats why the caliper you took off had 1 pad thrashed and another half way weared! i write 5 out of 10 for such job. I would newer let you to work on my car cause you do half of job ;)
@ZX2Fast7 жыл бұрын
This is one of my earliest videos. My newer ones show lubing the pins. Funny thing is, I've done brake jobs about a year after a "shop" did them and found they didn't lube the pins. At least this way a person can get the job done themselves three times before they come close to the cost of a shop doing it wrong once.
@vidmantask.44007 жыл бұрын
Thats true, had to redo the cleaning, lubing brake pins and guides multiple times after taking car from "shop" cause they don't pay attention to it, just old pads out, new ones in.

You say nothing about clamping off the brake hose and opening the bleeder valve when changing the pads and rotor. You are going to have millions of people doing their brakes according to your video and destroying their ABS system, costing them thousands of dollars to repair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
@ZX2Fast6 жыл бұрын
Joseph Martin I have done hundreds of brake jobs in my time and haven't damaged a single ABS component. Add to that the people that have used this video and haven't reported any damage.
