I have been working on my cars for a moment. I have never gone deep like that. thanks again for your advice.

+Sacha Dieubon Doing a leakdown test / compression test isn't too much really. It is basically just removing the spark plugs and putting either a compression gauge in, or a leak down tester.

Absolutely love these 300m How do you stay so calm I’d be throwing a few tools across the room just dropping a bolt never mind finding a crack in the header After all that work!!! Great Job

After watching this saga it shed some new light on how tough these motors are to work on. Having done head gaskets on both an 02 Lincoln Continental and Cadillac STS I'd take either of those jobs again over this one. Mabye I'm a gluten for punishment having just bought the wife an 02 300m Special. I'll just cross my fingers.

Great vids and editing trying to save this 300m--learned a lot. Why did you decide to just replace the heads instead of the engine? Were the old heads cracked or warped? Did the car overheat bc it lost coolant or a defective thermostat or head gasket which caused your heads to fail? What evidence led you to the heads? Pretty interested to hear your thoughts. Thanks for taking the time.

The car was overheated BAD two times. Both times it was because a cracked radiator drained all the coolant. The heads were cracked pretty bad and leaking coolant into the combustion chambers. I did a leakdown test (I actually show the test in my "how to do a leakdown test video") and it failed miserably. I also was able to visibly look down into the intake valve bore and SEE coolant bubbling out of a crack while doing the test (The intake manifolds were off). This told me that AT LEAST the heads were cracked. I took a chance and decided to replace only the heads because it was considerably cheaper to do so. A new engine was over $1000, while the heads were only $200 from a salvage yard. (Although I probably put in about another $150 for other small parts / special tools). With the new heads, the car passed the leakdown test! Now it runs great!

Hi Matt, I tried to put a new timing kit in my 3.2, and ended up, bending the valves, on the drivers side? My mechanic told me to junk it? It’s got 158,000 on it, and I’ve done everything to this car, from a new battery, to new fuel injectors, rims, and tites, whole Evap system? Both Cats, brakes, all the way around, all new sensors? IAS, map sensor, coolant sensor ICV sensor, new radiator, AC COMPRESSOR, Alternator, all new belts, and pulleys? Filler neck? This guy tells me to junk the car? How much would that job cost, to replace both heads? Then fix the timing properly, of course? The kit came with a new water pump also? What do you recommend, I do with this car? Ran mint, until, I tried putting a new timing belt in it? Thanks, Mark O.

thanks a lot I will try that very soon. I am kind of nervous about the process. It's a lot of stuff to deal with. I will take the challenge.

very good video. By the I have a 99 chrysler lhs that turns over but won't start. I have noticed a loud noise boom... each time I try to start the engine up. Somebody told me it might be the timing belt or the head cylender is gone. Please I will be more than happy to hear your thoughts. thanks in advance.

+Sacha Dieubon My first thought is to do a compression test as well as a leak down test to test the mechanical health of the engine. I made videos showing how to do this. Check em' out.

I was going about 65mph in my 01 LHS and the timing belt broke...you seem to know a lot about these engines so in your opinion is it toast? Or can I pull the heads and replace the bent valves? I've also been told I can put a new belt on and hope it didn't bend any
