I installed the bp120 kit on my 2009 kenworth. Isx485 dohc. 780000 miles. I cannot afford to lose this engine. $375 is a small price to pay for the added protection. High soot and moisture at this mileage is normal and was clogging the full flow filter in one day. Now there is no clogging in 10,000 miles and the engine runs better than ever with good oil pressures all day every day. I like this kit and installed it myself. All big trucks should come with this kit. Wtf!? I need to make it to 1,000,000 miles and prove it to my wife i bought a good truck. Period. No exceptions. Zero tolerance for failure. Must succeed. I ❤ amsoil! I change my oil every 10,000 Shell,mobil or chevron 15w40 $4.00 a quart + the full flow filter $50 no big deal. i dont care what anyone else says,thinks, or has done.

Knowledge and the use of it is wisdom, . I own a 1984 w900 Kenworth, the shop manual for the cat 3406 b model 400 hp DITA engine calls for If my memory serves, 5w30, or is it 10w30. I installed a dual bypass amsoil filter system and series 3000 amsoil 5w30 and did a CAT full spectrum fluid analysis several times a year and NC Machines lab in Washington always showed no excessive wear on the test samples I sent to them. Final recommendation was always good oil health formula and no oil change necessary. I still replaced all three oil filters once a year and added top of oil. Now I ran a 3axle belly dump and also installed a pre air filter set up on both air cleaner canisters Sy-Clone and also a racor fuel oil water separator as a closed crank system. I had excess of 1,250,000 miles on it when I sold it. I also replaced the drivers and transmission fluids every year with synthetic oils. Usually in dirt work it’s not unusual to replace engine oil every 400 hours.

I first had a 6 inch Amsoil by-pass filter installed on my Nissan in 1985. It was a canister when you took the top off and pulled out the filter, rather messy. But the filter medium was at least 2 inches thick. Amsoil has a filter demonstrator which has a tap on the outside bottom where you could drain off the water from the filter. It did remove water from the oil. It showed that it could remove every seem particle of carbon black that was added to the oil and you could compare it to a regular full-flow filter. With the tap half way, so oil flowed through both the by-pass could clean the full-flow. I had this on VHS video, but that was stolen in a burgulary many years ago. But I was surprised how thin the filter medium seems compared to the original by-pass filters. I did have an example, but that has been thrown out as it is all beyond my capabilities now. I then went to a dual guard, a by-pass and full flow on the same housing with an adaptor to the full flow mounting block. Now there is no room in modern engine bays. But the full Amsoil system on my car gave me a 14% improvement in fuel economy. And Amsoil withdrew from New Zaland in 2004.

The old canister filter was a lot better than what they have now. They had Bobby Unser saying this oil change is forever. I think the reason the new filters seem good is they dont have much to do with these modern engines and modern oils. My old Ford diesel tractor has a lot better filter than Amsoil has but it has more work to do. It has a flat head Ford V8 canister filter converted to use Scott 1000 toilet paper. I have a package of 4 1/2 inch Scott 1000 toilet paper Most of the toilet paper filters take a smaller roll.

+ICU2 AMSOIL Bypass Filters (EaBP 90, 100, 110, and the Heavy Duty 120) are 98.7% efficient @ 2 microns, and remove 39% of soot smaller than 1 micron. Many filter companies will advertise either their filter efficiency % rating, or their filter micron rating, but not both. Without both numbers (efficiency and micron size), you can't compare filters, or know the expected performance of the filter.

Clinton Roughton A quick test for spin-on bypass filters is to feel the outside of the filter after the engine has been running for at least 30 minutes. The filter should be very warm. If not, it is probably plugged, and not allowing any oil to flow thru it.

Great Video Sir. Thank you!! OK I'm going out on a limb here. Since I am researching this filtration system my question is this: Can you use a bypass oil filter in place of your normal oil filter to get the 2 micros of filtration? Why does it require two filters instead of replacing your stock filter? If the oil can't flow through the Amsoil filter fast enough, how is this benefiting the engine if there is only a small amount of oil going into the oil cap down the top of the engine. Help me understand how a small amount of filtered oil is a benefit. I think you said 10% of the oil? Don't get me wrong I want to add a filtration system if it really works, but I want to get the whole understanding of how this is actually working. Also does it only work with the Amsoil Oils? Again Thanks
@DieselWorld
@DieselWorld 2 жыл бұрын
Ok so here is the deal. You NEED a regular full flow filter at all times that will handle all the oil at any give engine speed. Because it flows well you have to give up some filtration. Lets say 30 microns. Now everything smaller than 30 microns does not get filtered and continues to circulate around with the oil. Put a bypass filter that filters to 2 microns and you divert about 10% of the oil to the bypass to get the 2 micron filtration. This little bit will still allow the engine to have plenty of oil. Now within about 5-10 minutes at highway speed ALL the oil has made its way through the bypass filter. If you only had a filter that filters to 2 microns it would clog up really fast AND would not flow enough volume to keep the engine lubricated since its restricted. By only allowing 10% of the oil to the bypass, all the oil eventually gets filter by the 2 micron filter.

Hello, great video. How many miles or hours on the oil in the 5 years you said the oil was in the truck? I have a bypass system in my truck and just had oil analysis done. 7500 miles on oil and TBN is at 4.7. Blackstone said I can make it to 10k miles on this oil because the bypass system is "doing its job" I spent about $500 for the bypass kit and brackets. In about 3 or 4 oil changes the system will have paid for itself. I'm currently using Mobil 1 but might spring for amsoil if your 5 year mileage is 40k+ miles. Thanks for your time.

There is no 'pressure relief valve.' There is no bypass to the bypass, as that's redundant. If that thing fills up, it's NBD, it just stops filtering and full oil flow will automatically be diverted to the full-flow filter. When the full-flow filter fills up, it's bypass takes care of everything.

I ran an old Gulf Coast Filter O-1 jr on a 1995 Toyota Avalon for a couple of years before relocating and having to sell the car. After I installed the GCF filter on it, gasoline mileage improved by at least 1.5 MPG. I believe this was due to the reduction of hydrocarbon deposits suspended in the oil, reducing friction on the engine.

Hello Dieselworld, In this video you mentioned that this filter has a 2 micron rating and that this will not hurt the oil. I work at ExxonMobil and as part of my job I performed rigorous testing on lubricants. For your standard 15w40 diesel engine oil, it is not recommended to filter smaller than 5-7 micron. Otherwise it will remove the additive package from the oil. This degradation causes the oil not to perform as intended within the engine.

1 micron filters wont remove the additives in any oil Im aware of.. Some people spend money on oil analysis partly to get a list of the additives in the oil. The Australian Jackmaster Classic claims 1 micron if you use their elements. My 64 Rambler American had a spin on bypass filter. It was a 10 micron filter. The oil was always dirty and black soon after a oil and filter change. Installed a Frantz and the oil turned clear. About 1966 I found out about the Motor Guard. I think they still claim. Submicronic.All they make now is compressed air filters. I have two that are over 50 years old. They will remove solid additives such as graphite.

They were a better filter than they have now. When I found out about them in the early 80s I was using Amsoil 10 40 with a Frantz oil cleaner. I also had a few Motor Guards. All of the cannister filters were a mess to change. Worked for a trucking company. We drivers had to change the Luberfiners. They used cotton. The newer ones used pulverized newspapers and wood chips. The big Gulf Coast filters use 2 rolls of Bounty big roll paper towels. Amsoil had Bobby Unser saying this oil change is forever when they came out with the cartridge filter. I have a Australian Jackmaster Classic on the Pontiac. They claim 1 micron. If you use their elements. Motor Guard has always claimed submicronic. I believe the Frantz claimed submicronic..The Australian Jackmaster Classic uses a high quality tightly wound roll of Australian toilet paper in a fabric cover. I would think the toilet paper filters would be similar. The Jackmaster Classic has the smallest orifice. It should have a slight advantage.The slower the flow the better the cleaning. There are filters claiming 1 micron that are more like 10 micron filters.

Bypass filters have been on engines since the 1920s. Most optional equipment. The orifice size average is 1/16 inch. I sometimes make them by putting a .025 wire welder tip in a brass fitting..In the 60s the Frantz oil cleaner didnt need an orifice if you used a two port Frantz sandwich adapter.. My flat head Ford V8 toilet paper conversion uses a Perma Cool universal sandwich adapter that I got from JEGS years ago. They were normally used for oil coolers.When you use a very small orifice you need to make sure the filter is heating up. The Jackmaster Classic is the best when you dont have much room under the hood.

Dont depend on a pleated filter to remove water. The absorbing filters such as toilet paper can remove a few ounces. After the oil heats up it will remove the water fron the filter. Then the crankcase ventilation will remove the water from the oil. If you dont drive enough to heat up the oil you are in a heap of trouble.

The bypass kit will allow you to help filter out more particles in the oil. But additive packages and friction modifiers are breaking down over time. Heat and pressure beats the crap out of oil. your absolutely right about the additives its called "shearing" to a point..base stock has a lot to do with it (class III is ultra refined dino oil) (class IV is 100% syn or PAO)...the "PAO"based oils will go farther thats why Mobil 1 Extended Performance is all puffed up with itself..(yes all mobil 1 products arnt 100% syn) theres only 3 100% syn oils that im aware of.."amsoil ss" "castro german made syntec" and the before mentioned "mobil"heres something that most folks dont know about with synthetics..the additives package is rejuvenated with the new top off oil that is added after a filter replacement..mind you this wont go on indefinitely..but it will get you that 20-25,000 mile mark.. also its been proven time and time again that friction is what makes an engine wear out..once you eliminate that (synthetics) then its dirt..hence the bypass filter..talk to fleet managers that run their diesel fleet on LP you wont believe how far they go on between oil changes because LP burns so cleanly..

i actually posted a reply here a year ago asking when they changed from cellulose rings (it was like 13 pineapple rings stacked under spring tension) to this medium they have now..back then 20+ years ago they told us to run the bypass filter till it wouldn't get hot from the oil anymore :/

+yamaharidr450 - I have to agree with you there... Another option would be drain a Quart out, and put a New Quart of Oil in every 5 Thousand Miles for " Viscosity "??? Here is the funny part.... Lab Test Cost around $26.00 (2017 Prices). Might as well take that Money and buy New Oil + New Filter. The plus part is... At least you know it's new and " Never " have to worry about the " Old " Oil. Also I like to note... 25,000+ Mile without changing Oil or even not " Just Examine " the old Oil, is beyond me. With all the Money spent on expensive Filters, Lab Tests, etc..... Just take that Money and spend on Cheap Oil + Cheap Filters and change your Oil every 3,000 5,000 Miles. At least you will know how your Engine is doing every time you change the Oil.

No wire mesh? I thought Amsoil filters comes with wire mesh.

That stupid wire mesh was replaced with more modern technology that became necessary with the extended 20,000-mile change intervals. The Uninformed have been flipping out about the wire mesh screen -- as if it was absolutely necessary in a top-quality filter. IT ISN'T !!

The filter on the Pontiac Sunbird is a cartridge type. The last two filters were crushed by the oil pressure. I wonder if the wire backing would keep that from happening. The Wix on the Pontiac Torrant had 64.000 miles on it when I changed it. It was getting rotten but still looked good. It didnt have the screen backing. The Wix XP has the screen backing. On the pic 13:52 ture on the box. Normally I change the full flow filter every 2 years. Started seeing particles in the Jackmaster that should be in the full flow filter.

It doesnt matter they are all crap. If you want clean oil you need depth. Ive used filters that clean oil since 63.. In 63 that was Frantz or Motor Guard. Now there are a lot more choices. Some of the prices are higher than a cats back. They all use toilet paper or something that looks like toilet paper.cut open a Australian Jackmaster Classic filter element. Found a roll of very high quality tightly wound Australian toilet paper in a fabric cover.They claim 1 micron filtering.if you use their filters. I dont doubt it. Motor Guard has always claimed submicronic. Jackmaster uses the smallest orifice. The slower the flow the better.the cleaning. Probably should use the Jackmaster elements. Im a toulet paper user..

I would never put 5w30 in any diesel! I don't care what any oil manufacturer says. It's 5w40 or 15w40 only. You definitely will not notice a difference in fuel mileage because of oil weight.

Your stuck in the last century. 5W-30 is PERFECTLY fine in this engine. I guess you would dump ATF fluid in the oil to "clean out the engine" also huh?

peter conway I'd guarantee you won't notice a difference in mileage you will notice that you burn a hell of a lot more oil.
