Heat stopped working in your Dodge B series B1500, B2500, or B3500 van? If the thermostat is good, coolant system is bled, and heater core is not clogged, the vacuum diaphragm that controls the fresh air flap is probably stuck open. When the fresh air flap sticks open, cold air will cool the heater core and you'll only get luke warm heat from your Dodge Van in the winter. All you need to do is to disconnect the vacuum line from the diaphragm that controls the fresh air flap, then push the flap closed with a long screwdriver. Then just enjoy the heat in your Dodge B1500, B2500, or B3500 van.

If you only knew how many videos and how many people I asked about this and yours is the only one that actually showed me something that I need to know thank you thank you thank you I'm going to give this a try because in my van I don't need the dash only blows out about 80 degrees and that's it mean while everything else is getting hot but I get no no more heat out of the floor or the dash or the vents it just blows only blows out good it's not clogged and the fan is working great except for the 3-speed all I have is high-speed but it blows out real real good but it blows out cold so I'm going to give that a shot and see what happens then again I want to say thank you thank you thank you

When I worked at Greyhound I had a problem with the with the bus that came in overheating and the bus was given to me to do work on and what I found was a rag stuffed in the in the transmission engine cooler and I pull drag out and then bus wouldn't overheat again I wonder if that's a possibility here too?

a DIY Car Guy I'd have to say good morning and do you remember me when I was asking you about my van and I told you I couldn't really test drive well I got the van legal and I put on 750 three and a half miles and the transmission performed flawlessly and heater still work but I got to I got some issues with the heater I don't know if it's the modulator or vacuum lines but it would not stay in one mode such as it would change automatically from vent to defrost two bottom heater and I do not know if it's the control valve or the vacuum lines any ideas?

I do remember. Good to hear it's on the road and working good! If it's going automatically I would think it's something electrical in the climate control unit. Or a flap might be flopping around if it broke loose from it's actuator.

Hi. i stumbled on this trying to get a different hvac repair done, and I noticed the vacuum hose you pulled to do this is already disconnected in my dodge van. Where does it reconnect, because I am sure that adds to my existing hvac problem. Thanks!

You're actually backwards on both of them if you pull vacuum on them that opens them the same way with the valve on the bottom of the airbox that you were saying push to the back of the firewall you have to pull it to you
@CarolinaGuy
@CarolinaGuy 3 жыл бұрын
This is true. My 95 B2500 conversion van had this problem after the cable for the hot and cool snapped. I had no heat,watched this video and went to see if I could use this fix. I had to pull the the linkage forward after disconnecting vacuum line and then checked the heater core valve which is open when not depressed. I now have heat again. The only question I have is should I hook the vacuum line back up or leave it disconnected? I'll do some trial and error tomorrow.
@turboman4736
@turboman4736 3 жыл бұрын
@@CarolinaGuy you either want to hook the vacuum line back up or plug it off because that will cause a vacuum leak in your system and make your motor idle rough or not run right at all if you have a vacuum leak

Yes and I've seen the radiator covers on the on the big trucks as well I have a very good friend of mine who's a trucker and he and a lot of other truckers use these radiator covers they buy and mount on top they're on the front of their trucks especially if they're driving up in the north so I want to thank you again for all your your input and it's a big help because I used to work diesel not gasoline and I never worked on a van so and I've been kind of retired for about a little over 10 years so I've been out of the loop for a while and I have a tendency to forget some things but thank you thank you thank you and hopefully I will talk to you later

And by the way the van that I have does not have that vacuum shut off valve that is clearly seen on the van in your video it is been taken out the hose that been replaced without reinstalling that and there's a white vacuum line which I believe went to it so I sealed that off too so doesn't suck up anymore then it has to

@elhoracewayhoslotcarswvias3170
@elhoracewayhoslotcarswvias3170 3 жыл бұрын
The blend door is right above the vent on the firewall and if you look at the duct up there that is the blend door and that closes between your heating heater core and your cooling for the blend door works off of your temperature dial blue red the more you turn it that blends in the cooling coil to the thing that isn't your defrost that's your door that's your defrost in your he. Your dad's or heat on the floor that works off of your knob so it really has nothing to do with your blind or you probably just need a new Switch or there's a loose wire or something or something under there

Here's another thought I have would two heater cores running all the time would that stop the thermostat from opening up? By the way the new thermostat is 180 the one I took out was 195
@aDIYCarGuy
@aDIYCarGuy 7 жыл бұрын
yea it could be that the coolant is never getting hot enough in the first place. but it would have to be a really cold climate. where are you located? what is the air temperature there? have you tried turning the rear heat off, or all the heat off, letting the engine warm up, and then turning just the front heat on?
@recycledteenager7483

Another thing is that when I had the cap off and I'm watching for it I'm looking down inside the radiator radiator looks clean now the other thing is that when the thermostat opens up you can watch the water or the coolant circulate through the radiator I did not see where the thermostat opened up and I did not see any circulation in the radiator but I did see the steam coming out of the cap
@aDIYCarGuy
@aDIYCarGuy 7 жыл бұрын
Whoever replaced the water pump might have been trying to fix the problem that you're having. Could be it needs more bleeding. Or the radiator could be clogged, heater core could be clogged. I'd take the bottom hose off the radiator, pour water through the top, and and see if water will drain through. I would take both hoses off the heater core and try to spray water through it with a hose and see if there's any flow. If either are clogged I would replace or unclog it and flush the system with a flush chemical/kit if the climate will be warm enough for a while, if not, just flush with water as much as possible and refill with antifreeze..
@recycledteenager7483
@recycledteenager7483 7 жыл бұрын
a DIY Car Guy I flushed out the system the best I could got a flush kit with no chemical for the flesh but I tapped into the heater core hose that leads the in the incoming and I turn the water hose on and I had the radiator cap off and I had your top radiator hose off and I flushed it until it came out clean I have the bottom radiator hose off when I drained it so the radiator is is clean there's no it comes out just very well tomorrow I'm going to disconnect the heater core lines and back flush the heater core and see what that does
@aDIYCarGuy

before you do all that, warm up the engine so the temp guage is where it's supposed to be, put the heater on, rev the engine, and feel if the air gets warm coming out of the vents. (if you havn't done this already). lmk what happens. the rad and HC could flow, but they might be restricted

I did put a couple miles on transmission to check you know to get it circulated through through the system and it seemed to shift and drive extremely well I didn't take it on the highway but I did take it on one of the side streets and I got up to about 30 miles an hour it didn't seem to have any problems but that's not to say there couldn't be

First off before I done that I check and make sure the valve is opening for the heat to go into the heater core right on the top of the motor that round cylinder that looks like a fuel filter with the vacuum line going to it that open and closes your heater core for your hot water to go in make sure that's operating correctly before I start tearing into my vehicle easy check just grab and make sure the heater core hoses are hot going in and out if not your power was stuck closed and your vacuum is not opening it up

I think there's something wrong with a component of your heating system, you never know though, but I only see diesel school busses blocking the radiators around here when it's in the 20's and below.

Feel the upper and lower radiator hoses and see if they're both hot when the engine is warmed up. Also feel both heater core inlet and outlet hoses to see if they're the same temperature, if you can reach them, I don't know where they are located but they should be going through the firewall somewhere.

I believe it got up to operating temperature the top radiator hose I can still hold on to all though it's very it's extremely warm or hot the bottom radiator hose towards the radiator itself just as it takes that bend to go into the radiator it's still ice cold the heater course the forward split to the heater core is hot the return is hot the one in the rear is cold

@aDIYCarGuy 7 жыл бұрын
if one hose is still cold, then the thermostat isn't opening, gotta change the thermostat, or at least take it out and put it in a pot of hot water to test it and see if it opens, the water has to be at least the temp that the thermostat is rated to open at

I wanted to give you an update on my van when I did the transmission I went and had and bought 2 gallons of transmission oil for the vehicle not knowing how much it would take but I figured having a little extra is better than not having enough so I go to take the pan off and all the boats I know the pan was leaking I know the gasket was leaking because you could see it but when I go to take the bolts off every one of them came out by hand with my fingers oh my God I was thinking this is not good so I let the pan down to the drain you know how you hang a little bit to get most of all out no oil came out until I took the completely off well checking all this stuff out it looks a little dirty looks a lot dirty and when I went to refill I use one gallon cuz I figure that's how much the pan would hold well after running it through the gears and such warm it up it took 2 gallons to bring it just a little bit above the full mark ouch I think I'm in for a transmission rebuild like clutches and such so question is do you know how to rebuild a transmission because I'm not real good with Transmissions I'm familiar with them but not real good with them so if worse comes to worst😕
@aDIYCarGuy
@aDIYCarGuy 7 жыл бұрын
Yea those bolts aren't in tight to begin with so they might have loostened on their own. If it shifts good I would just drive it. Make sure it's not leaking from front or rear main seal, and also transmission cooler lines if it has it. If it's not working good then there's probably not much you can do without rebuilding it, CRC makes a transmission-fix fluid called trans-x for trucks, might try that, but can't guarantee anything. I've never rebuilt one so I don't have much knowledge off-hand on them.
