These work great but are still a lot of work when you let the weeds get out of control. In my experience I need to spend several hours getting the weeds out the first time, then every week or two it only takes 15-20 minutes to quickly take care of the weeds attempting to grow back. Weeds will always find a way and the best strategy is to stay ahead of them.

@@TeachaMantoFish back to report that this thing is AMAZING 🤩 oh my god i can’t even get over how quickly i transformed my garden, i wish i could post a picture because the difference is night and day!! it took a minute to figure out the right angle/pressure to keep it effective yet easy on my back but once i got the right stance i was flying over those weeds. you were definitely right that some long ones took more effort, but i was still able to clear the most unwalkable back areas with a little extra elbow grease (and a few breaks haha). i’ve used it a total of maybe 4hrs over the last 2 evenings and im about done weeding already, i almost can’t believe it. thank you for the video again, and to anyone else even considering it, BUY THIS TOOL. What kind of maize were you growing that year? Neat little tool. I might get one and try to use it to hoe out my lawn. I used a butterknife to hoe out a dandelion (I don't hate dandelions, I just wanted to put an allium set where it stood so it needed to go). Time will tell if I was successful, but I think it was. I do not want to repeat that across my entire garden, hence my interest in a scuffle hoe (I also have the tools to sharpen it, as a side effect of having a scythe to mow the lawn that will remain, and to mow wheat, rye, triticale, barley, upland rice, and/or teff when I get to growing said plants).

I'm installing patchs of sod in my yard and was contemplating whether this would be worth it compared to a metal rake and non-flat shovel. Needless to say I am headed to my local Ace Hardware now LOLOL. They seem to have a fiberglass handle version for sale that looks the same as the ones at lowes for roughly $6 cheaper than other options ($32ish at HD/Lowes vs $25.99 at Ace). Hope thats helpful to someone else. Living in Florida I like the fiberglass handles more the wood ones get eaten up outside.

I don't see the benefit of leaving mature weeds in the soil you have just hoed - especially when large enough to pick up. Of course, that means bending over when the scuffle should eliminate that need. I get it if very young small weeds chopped...but I see whole roots exposed to the soil just ready to re-root with an overnight rain. Or as you point out, not to go too deep so as not to bring up old weed seeds to the top. The plan is the weeds are chopped up enough in theory that they then become nutrients for the soil (the same weeds that we are working so hard to eliminate)? A sort of weed compost for your future or existing plants?

@northavealum 4 жыл бұрын
Try renting a few goats to come in and graze the ivy. After a couple of passes, the ivy should die off (the goats eating the ivy above ground starves the below-ground root system) without you having to dig out the roots. The roots will decompose on their own with the help of soil microbiology.
