@johnneil66539 сағат бұрын
Especially if you mount the gauge to the (very convenient) brace rather than...the opposing frame rail as was done before. If you had 0.080" deflection before, that box would be leaking out the bottom seal.

What stumps me is; when I was a young kid (60s) my father and all his friends had various 4×4s all straight axle and none of them had the wobble ever. It seems to have become a thing in the last 30 years or so. The only common denominator I can find is the move away from leaf springs in the front JMO.

I love your products and have your steering stabilizer on my 17 Ram 2500. However I think it would be worth mentioning that just about any worn steering component on the front end of these(solid axle) vehicles (Ball joints, track bar bearings, drag link/tie rod bearings, etc) can contribute to and cause death wobble. Not sure there is a magic bullet fix other than replacing any worn components. Of course this aftermarket fix along with some others(upgraded drag link/tie rod, Upgraded track bar) will keep ya rolling straight alot better than the factory junk!
@kurtb22744 жыл бұрын
i own a 2006 dodge ram and i installed a steering stabilizer from BD but they pretty much all look the same. Needless to say i still got the wobble, after installing the Kore Recon series lift kit i removed it mainly because with the aluminum sway bar lowering block, i didn't have the correct length bolts. What i noticed was it had to do more with tire wear and balancing than anything at least with my truck. With new tires and alignment i have no issues whatsoever but when tires are at the halfway mark, i gotta watch for those uneven surfaces, bumps or dips.
@jacknorlander24583 жыл бұрын
It’s all part of the system. Everyone wants to say one thing is “the fix” but wheels/tires, shocks/struts, steering dampeners, and upper/lower control arms are all factors. Bottom line, the frame rigidity is the most common issue with big Rams.
@wayneallen98732 жыл бұрын
Being in 4x4 country, and being an ASE certified master tech. I will offer the following info. (Please note that I became well known as the guy who could actually solve the death wobbles where many others could not!) Any solid axle front suspension is subject to the "DWs" the reason (Which is primarily a Jeep and Dodge issue. Although my exs Mercedes had a "DW" issue also) The main culprit is the front axle pinion angle. (Hear me out) As anyone who has lifted a 4x4 can attest to, this can be a real problem. On Dodge/Ram and Jeep 4x4s with solid front axles when the front axle pinion is moved up to correct a lifted suspension angle issue the caster setting for the steering goes out of specification. (As in too much positive caster) A vehicle (particularly one wirh a solid front axle) that is brand new with no front end wear that has too much positive caster can offer up the dreaded "DWs" Add in "ANY" wear in the steering components tires not perfectly balanced and/or a rough road and there you gave the undesired wobble condition. If you are unsure what a caster setting is, just think of the balljoints as being the hinge on a door ( or in this case the hinge for your wheels to swivel left to right) The caster setting is the angle of the hinge. A positive setting has the top of the balljoint/hinge forward of the lower one. Where a negative setting is just the opposite. The more positive the setting the easier it is to steet and has less control over straight line stability. The opposite is true for a negative setting. So, what to do about this issue? First of all remember that ANY wear or items added or changed in the front axle and steering cam amplify a less than desirable caster setting. Sometimes just front spring sag /frame twist/ axle bend (as in Dodge Diesels) can be an amplifier of the lack of caster settings. Larger wheels (more wheel offset) and tires (more weight to control for the steering and shocks). So how to take care of the problem? First of all, all steering components have to be in excellent condition. Second of all these issues don't start until there is considerable wear on the balljoints. Front caster and camber is adjuted by either rotating the balljoints or by rotating the sleeve that the balljoints seat into. So the number one thing to be done when replacing a balljoint AND/OR the adjusting sleeve on any lifted or truck that is having an issue is to only purchase one that has the most offset as possible. (1-5 degrees) Select the most offset that is available for your vehicle. In some cases, you can get an offset balljoint AND an adjusting cam with a wide range of adjustment. ( 2 degree offset balljoint and a 3 degree adjustment cam would be great) I always started worh the highest available offsets and only on a couple of occasions did I have ro back down on the cam offset. PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND THE NEXT STATEMENTS! Remember that not only are you changing caster, you are also changing camber when installing offset balljoints and adjusting cams. Before doing any of this installation make sure that you have a discussion with the person who will be performing the alignment. Make sure that you will be happy to pay as much as double for the alignment for them to take the time to set it to your requirements. If they balk, then they will not take the time to do it correctly. You want factory toe setting "0" camber and as much negative caster as possible. (Remember, most roads have a slight camber off to the right for water drainage, so a factory caster split is still required to keep the vehicle from drifting to the right. (Take note of the driving habits of your vehicle before doing these repairs/modifications. The suspension, tires, and roads in your area may already cause a drift that you may not be aware of.) Any new part that you install on your steering will/may assist in stopping the "deadly" DWs. But after the proper (for a modified truck) But they will stay way (providing no worn parts) with the caster set properly. Many Jeeps that are lifted with very nice kits with adjustable control arms. You can achieve the same results by adjusting in more negative caster. HOWEVER, pay close attention to your front axle pinion angle! Too much angle and you will be eating and/or breaking front u-joints!

This is a good product and I use it on my 98. All this does is remove some of the slop in the steering wheel from the play in the output shaft of the gearbox. They way they are advertising it is not accurate and this will not fix deathwobble. Years 94 to 97 and '00 until the 4th gen can sufffer from deathwobble due to the fact of the steering suspension forming a 'Y'. Most 2500s and 3500s 98-99 utilized the HD steering suspension that they later used on all 4th gen solid axle where the tie rod is a solid piece with an adjustment sleeve for alignment. This is the style that they're demonstrating in the video.... So if you're wanting to fix your deathwobble then you have to upgrade to the 98-99 HD tie rods, drag link and pitman arm for the second gen. If you buy the 4th gen style, you'll have to ream out your knuckles to get the joint to fit.

Installing this alone may or may not “fix” your issue. You need to go through all of the steering components and correct any other issues. A stabilizer will help improve the life of your gear box and other components along with reduce “bump steer”, but I doubt you’ll notice much difference with the sway bar bushings. Hope this helps

Look at tire quality. Supposedly better tires help. Caster alignment is important. Ball joints and tie rod ends. Frame hole where sway bar mounts. Last resort is to install a t type tie rod assembly. Synergy makes one and DOR make one ($1000 approximately)

I did my own extensive research (I'm talking 7-8months) lol and concluded a long arm control kit would kabosh that wobble, it did, still does in 2024. A local farm/machine shop made them

Tires and your track bar are the first things to look at when addressing a death wobble issue, then the list continues from there, worn ball joints, worn steering arm and so on. This steering brace has nothing to do with the death wobble issue, so be careful of these false claims just to sell you a product. New trucks don't have a steering brace and a new truck does not have death wobble do they, death wobble occurs from worn Factory parts.
@charlesnash27484 жыл бұрын
Most of the time, the death wobble is caused by worn ends on the track bar. It's an easy fix and the parts are cheap.

I've got a 2003 2500 cummins six speed 4x4 and I replaced EVERYTHING in the front end, direct from dodge (boxes were moog problem solvers with dodge part numbers). New ball joints, tie rod ends, drag link, steering stabilizer, pitman arm, all four control arms, new bushings (tried both poly and stock) in the track bar, wheel bearings, rotors and calipers/pads, all were the later 2011 parts (somewhat thicker than the originals, PLUS a BD brace with pillow block bearing. The wobble used to start at 24mph. Now it starts at 18mph, all I have to do is bounce off a frost heaved pavement crack with the left front tire and off it goes and I have to do a complete stop to shut it down. Only thing that helped (for a very short time) was pounding ground down washers up into the control arm brackets in the frame and then putting the bolt thru. I do have I think 3 or 4" spacers in front (came with the truck, already installed so it would clear the BFG all terrain tires. I have nothing left to change guys. HELP! Truck is down for a transfer case rebuild due to the vibration destroying the front bearing and front driveshaft U joints (replace with spicer HD Ujoints too, that's done but the xfer case chain is so sloppy it's binding up) Any help or ideas are appreciated. I"m a 61 year old 80% disabled two service vet and I'm about out of money and patience with this thing. Now, the odd thing. WHY did they even USE recirculating ball steering in these? My 3500 cummins six speed 2wd crewcab dually longbed has rack and pinion and rides like a dream. My steering gearbox is looser than my 84 sububurban 2500 diesel's gearbox is (and that is 3/4 steering now). No idea if we can tighten it up or not, but it's been pounded by the vibration. I think the tires are 315/75/17s on the stock aluminum rims (Tire tread remains flat so the rim is wide enough). The only thing we did not do is remove the spacers since I don't have a stock set of tires to fit it. (the fronts will definitely rub without the spacers). Should I go buy a set of stock rims/stock tires and try it and then pull the spacers? I can't see that being the problem at this point but the truck just sits and my old 97 GMC K3500 crew cab 4x4 dually longbed 6.5 diesel is not strong enough to pull my cabin cruiser nor my race car. Thanks again for any assist...
