Doug said: "Christ or chaos"? Apparently Doug forgot about the "European wars of religion" that directly resulted from the first Reformation. As James Madison said: “The purpose of separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe in blood for centuries.” Historically speaking, nothing is more chaotic than Christians with political power.

I agree. However, I do not want more God and Jesus in government. Like Melville said "..better a sober cannibal than a drunk Christian..". Christians with political power have always been more corrupt and incompetent than their secular counterparts. Separation of church and state is one of the genius ideas of our founding fathers. Doug will destroy it.

Nobody needs your imaginary friend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The correlation is clear and strong: The more secular tend to fare better than the more religious on a vast host of measures, including homicide and violent crime rates, poverty rates, obesity and diabetes rates, child abuse rates, educational attainment levels, income levels, unemployment rates, rates of sexually transmitted diseases and teen pregnancy, etc. You name it: On nearly every sociological measure of well-being, you’re most likely to find the more secular states with the lowest levels of faith in God and the lowest rates of church attendance faring the best and the most religious states with the highest levels of faith in God and rates of church attendance faring the worst. @@unkown312 I agree. The apostles _as individuals_ were involved in politics and had a vast impact on their culture. They prophetically spoke truth to power. That's not the same as arguing for the involvement of _the institution_ of the Church in the State. Both institutions are servants of God, but have different jurisdictions and tools of rule. And again, morality must exist in civil government. So when you initially told me, "No" ... what did I say that you were disagreeing with?
