So fun to watch these videos. My family has a long history in Banff. My grandmother was a hat check girl at the Banff Springs Hotel in about 1920. My mother and 6 of her 7 children were born in Banff and my father was once in charge of The Upper Hot Springs. These vlogs have been a reminder to me to not take for granted the beauty and majesty of where I grew up. I hope you come back to Canada one day and spend some time in other parts of this magnificent country.

Just visited Banff over the new year for 5 nights with my family. My favourite place I’ve ever visited. The mountains are magical. We were told the story about the boss bear too and just after we walked into an art shop with a gorgeous picture of him that is now hanging in our living room. Love from Australia 🇦🇺🇨🇦

When my mother-in-law was young, she and her husband used to camp at Lake Minnewanka; in those days you could just pull of the road and camp anywhere in the park. Many people did this, however, much of the original shore line of the lake is now under water, as the level of the lake was raised to supply water to a nearby hydro electric plant.

I used to work on lake minnewanka back in 2004. that place has not' changed one bit! Behind the canteen is where some of the staff stay( I worked all the positions). Some of the staff and I had some good times up there. We would go off-roading in the go-cart( One time even drove it into the lake)....also we would jump off the roof of the back of the boats into the water. You had to wear a life jacket because the water ice-cold year-round and it's a super shock to your body. One the tours, if you got lucky you would see some rare birds, bears, moose, and mountain goats/sheep. It's nice up there, but it's kind of pricey when you go into Banff.

You made the right decision going that time of year. The mountain parks are a completely different experience in the summer or mid winter. In summer you can't swing a cat without hitting a whole bus load of tourists and in winter you do not want to be driving those roads without years of winter driving experience under your belt. The risk of crashing is bad enough but there is also no cell service most of the way.

I know you headed to Banff via Kelowna but alternately you could have traveled through Kootenay National Park into Banff, which is just jaw-dropping in its beauty - plus would have allowed for a chance to stop off at Radium Hot Springs for a soak or witness the mountain sheep that wander through town. Something to keep in mind for another occasion. Also, it would have been worth hitting up a dollar store for a pair of gloves to keep your digits from freezing lol.
