Jer 2,13 For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. John 10, 10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 4, 9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. 10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. 11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? 12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? 13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. Ps 36,9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light. Proverbs 13,14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. Proverbs 14,27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. Revelation 21,6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. @@ALLmasked - The Bible are the according to the Holy Spirit worked collected texts of God's revelation to HIS human creatures. Without its Truth you couldn't know anything. ‭‭Proverbs 1, [7] The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: But fools despise wisdom and instruction. ‭Colossians 2, [3] Christ, in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. ‭Luke 24, 25-27. 44-48 [25] Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: [26] ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? [27] And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. ... [44] And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. [45] Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, [46] and said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: [47] and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. [48] And ye are witnesses of these things. ‭Hebrews 1, 1-3 [1] God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, [2] hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; [3] who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; ‭Revelation 1:1 KJV‬ [1] The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: [2] who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw. ‭Revelation 22, 18-21 KJV‬ [18] For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: [19] and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. Fact 1 Your word is the truth. So let this truth make them completely yours. John 17:17 Sanctify them in Your Truth; Your Word is Truth. John 17:17 Fact 2 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him; and without him was not anything made that hath been made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in the darkness; and the darkness apprehended it not. John 1:1-5 is speaking of Jesus. Fact 3 Jesus identified himself as: I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6 Fact 4 A preincarnate Christ was part of the omnipresent God: ....that they should seek God, if haply they might feel after him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us: for in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain even of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. Acts 17:27-28 Conclusion, truth is there all around us. It's for us to detect and be in sync with. So in that sense, you're right: No man decides/determines "truth". It's to be discovered, preceived, sense, and be in sync with. The remarkable thing is that truth is a thing, spirit and a person. Truth might get crushed and killed, but it rises again. 2 Corinthians 5:15 This very idea brings "dead" people to life.

@@williamoarlock8634 The 'church' is really the people (ekklesia, Greek: congregation, assembly). Most of them tried to follow Jesus' teachings. But there have always been some in this world who are lured by power. Thus came the official church hierarchy with its ties to the political ruling classes. The state churches. The best thing to happen to Jesus' community is the separation of church and state. (Today in much of the world, political ideologies have become the substitute for priests and their imprimatur of legitimacy.) The focus returns to Jesus, what he did for us and what he is still doing for us, where it has always been among the vast majority of the laity.

I would want to tighten up the question, "Is religion good for society?" When I speak with my friends about Christianity, they immediately draw on the caricature of an angry tyrant in the sky waiting to send people to hell. Is that kind of religion good for society? Honestly, I don’t know. Maybe some people need the threat of spiritual violence to maintain a civil society. I would maybe change the question to be, "Does this type of religion entice people into a close relationship with the Divine?" To that question, I would say no. Any belief system that promotes fear of the other party cannot be good in establishing a loving, trusting relationship. To that end, is Christianity as it's commonly portrayed good for relating to God? I would say, no, that view is not helpful.
