It's cold right now, it's a comfort drink that I really enjoy, 2 cups daily , for me it's a food suppressant as well. I Stopped drinking alcohol and started full on carnivore, so , if I feel coffee is a determent to my goals, I will stop drinking it.

I love the little ritual of making coffee. When I grind some good quality, preferably organic, slow roasted beans in my coffee grinder, I already start feeling so good because of the expectation of the lovely smell and taste that will soon come my way. I put the coffee in my two part old-fashioned espresso maker, put a piece of filter paper on top, and screw on the top part. Now all I have to do is wait for a few minutes, until the simmering sound heralds upcoming bliss. I wouldn't live without it.

Loved reading your comment. I could read your love of a freshly made brew of steaming coffee. I once was talking to the owner of a coffee stop where you can buy a huge array of his coffee beans, have it ground to suit your needs and purchase any equipment to make coffee at home. I was commenting about the lovely smell of roasting beans being roasted behind the door of the shop front. He corrected me by rewording what I had said, but used "aroma" instead of "smell". It's odd but that's the first thing that popped into my head immediately reading your comment, particularly "smell".

I drink approximately 600mg of coffee each morning, have for almost 40 years. If I don't have caffein for 36-40 hours I get a headache (Shocker I know) ☺ I love the morning ritual of getting up early, about 5 a.m. I feel amazing, I've been carnivore for 11 months, I'm sleeping incredibly well, have tons of energy and can't think of any downsides to coffee consumption (other than being addicted) I don't drink alcohol, smoke take drugs, I work out 7 days a week, cold plunge 37 degrees for 4 minutes very morning, so I'm feeling pretty good about the habits I've stacked. In a prefect world, I would feel better if I were completely free from all vices....Coffee in the mean time will be part of my morning ritual. Who knows, at some point I may cut back or quit and see how I feel🤷‍♂ thanks doc !!!

Shortly after I became a carnivore I lost my taste for coffee and switched to tea. After a year of carnivore I decided to stop drinking tea because it was the last addiction I had and wanted to be free of anything that controlled me. The only possible downside I think I've been experiencing is a hot flash right after consuming it (I'm a 56yo woman). MAYBEEEEE I'll experiment with abstaining for 30 days next year... After about 60 days on carnivore I stopped drinking coffee. 99% of my aches and pains had gone away except for my wrist and heal. I decided to try giving up coffee to see if that would help. Within a week i no longer noticed the ache in my foot of the pain i would get in my wrist. I am pretty much pain free after 90 days on carnivore. I used to drink coffee daily, at least a 1/2 a pot, for as long as i can remember. The energy and mental clarity from carnivore is better without the coffee. Coffee come from a plant and can still have affects on the body that are negative. I would rather be pain free than live with the pains it caused me. I may try have a cup in a few months just to see if i can tolerate it in small quantities. I won't be going back to drinking it daily. It is not worth it to me.

Planned to be gone all day. But 2:00 I felt extreme exhaustion and migraine. Was in bed for a couple hours, after taking 2 advil and drinking coffee to get rid of the migraine. I realized today…something that makes me THAT sick by NOT having it….needs to go. So…I’m going to try to stay off it, ORRRR, have a few sips/half cup for the wonderful morning taste.

I was on a clean strict carnivore diet for 18 months before introducing 2 cups of coffee each morning for a period of 4 months. It ruined my sleep and made me gain 18 pounds by dysregulating my hormones. I stopped the coffee experiment and my sleep went back to normal and I started losing weight again. I did not change my diet of fatty red meat.

You can’t gain weight without consuming more calories. Coffee is a stimulant, as you described by poorer sleep. Stimulant is the important word here. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed.

@@luisv007 It's what your body does with food that matters. I don't eat calories. I eat the same 1.2kg of fatty red meat a day and lose weight. My diet has not changed. Consuming coffee caused dysregulation of hormones and the energy went to the wrong tasks and I put on weight. That's what happened. My body isn't an internal combustion engine. It's not energy in energy out.
@luisv007
@luisv007 28 күн бұрын
@ Your body digests the foods, turning them into the smallest units. They are absorbed and either used as energy, building and repairing the body and any excess stored as fat. You eat calories, food is calories. A bomb calorimeter is used to measure energy from food. How do you know that coffee causes dysregulation of hormones, which actually is not a term? Emotional dysregulation is. Energy does not go to wrong tasks. What are they? Where did the extra energy come from, if you didn’t change what you ate. The body works on the laws of physics. Energy can neither be created or destroyed. You can’t gain weight without more calories. It’s that simple. A rule of nature.

@@luisv007 CICO is too simplistic to fully explain the complexity of human metabolism. It is not simply a math or physics issue. You are forgetting about the hormones, enzymes, gut biome, and feedback systems in the body. An obvious example is an untreated Type 1 diabetic who can eat mountains of food but will become severely underweight and die.

I am 69, drinking coffee since I was 9. Have been carnivore for about 6 years and have battled with the coffee issue. Quit several times and ended back on it. Found that Yerba Mate makes it easy to quit for awhile but going without that becomes the issue. When I drink coffee I get sore longer after lifting weights and it gives me gas after eating, sometimes really bad. Coffee doesn't seem to affect my sleep but might contribute to a sinus issue that does. Yerba Mate does not give me gas or makes me sore longer. Going to give it another try and stay on the Mate until I can wean off that if possible.

I drink coffee, usually just one 'souper' mug a day, and not EVERY day. When I was diagnosed with a heart murmur as a young person, I was told not to drink coffee or other highly caffeinated drinks, which I didn't. Besides, I never liked the taste of coffee or soft drinks, so this wasn't a problem. However, in 2015 I did suffer a heart attack, brought on by a Pulmonary Embolism. Still, for two or three years afterward, I did not drink coffee; but after seeing several You Tube doctors & influencers pointing out from various studies, that it actually seem to help some heart patients, I decided to start drinking some. I don't like plain black coffee, so I put a 'ton' of other things, like Laird's Powdered Coconut Creamer; different Functional Mushroom powders; Cacao Powder; Liquid Stevia (sometimes French Vanilla flavored); Cinnamon; ground Cloves; ground Nutmeg (year round, not just for Winter holidays); ground Ginger and Cardamon. I also, occasionally put a couple of tablespoons of Collagen Powder or Whey Isolate Protein Powder. I even use to put ground Flax-seed meal, which made it taste a little like soggy cereal, which I use to love as a child. I must admit I do feel better, not only temporarily energetic, but the coffee seems to soothe any palpitations, murmurs or uncomfortableness in my chest. Lastly, I take some of my supplements and prescription pills with it, and they seems to go down well with the coffee.

As you were talking I realized the many reasons I do drink coffee. I quit coffee twice in my life but I felt so much more alive when I did drink it I started again. coffee is different in different parts of this country. Everyone is familiar with starbucks which is a Seattle based coffee co, It is very harsh - tough on my stomach. All the coffees from Seattle are sort of the same. San Francisco coffees although dark are not harsh. So I drink Pete's French because it is dark and delicious but not harsh - my stomach doesn't hurt from drinking it. I was living in Boston the 2 times i quit and the reason was the headaches and stomach aches I live in wash state now and if I had to move back I would quit again.(unless Pet's is available there now) The one last piece is that dark roasting cooks off most of the caffeine so withdrawl is hardly noticeable.

I drink coffee, black, and i love the taste. It was a ritual back home. Every day, at 4PM, grampa took the manual grinder and grinded fresh coffee. Granda made it, turkish style, in ibric, on stove top. We kids had a tiny quantity. Adults had a 4 oz cup. I started drinking it regularly at around 14... I am 50 now, and reduced the intake to max 3 cups (5-8oz) a day. (In my 40s, i was drinking 8 or more a day!). Drinking it after 4 pm now days though delays my bed time. I can function without coffee, and i do not notice enhanced energy, when i wake up at 5 am, i am up. I should mention that in 2016 (when i was drinking a lot of it) i did an experiment and quit it cold turkey, and the withdrawls were horrible, like I had sciatica pain, my back, the back of my legs had pain, pins and niddles, headaches! For 2 days, then subsided and was ok. I have been carnivore since June 2024. Love the smell of coffee, cannot tolerate the bitterness, no matter the brand. I drink hot cocoa with fake sugar because it gives me an emotional pick up that meat cannot and it cuts the richness of meat. I have an aversion to meat’s flavor and texture plus my BP always goes up too high with salt. I’m sensitive to eggs and dairy does not digest well. I’m stuck in boredom and cocoa keeps me on meat.

I drink a cup of green tea first thing in the morning between 5 am and 8 am with the expectation of certain effects: wakes me up, stirs the bowel and well I love the taste. The downside for me is any caffeine later in the day I will not sleep at night also the caffeine raises my blood pressure to 130/90 ish which is supposed to be the danger zone. At noon I’ll have a decaf espresso so I don’t suffer the caffeine side effects, this routine seems to be fine with my gut.

Hi Tony, coffee is pressed seed juice which defeats the purpose of a carnivore diet. Water for the win. 👍

I drank coffee by the pot when I quit smoking in 2007. By 2014, after having my second child, it started causing gut problems and stomach ache. It took me a year to figure it out, and a few more years to believe it😂. I did finally give it up in 2019 when I found out I like unsweetened hot tea. It still smells amazing to me though, and still makes me ill with even a few sips.

I only occasionally drank coffee before carnivore. Upon going carnivore 5-years ago I started drinking 4-5 cups daily. For me it acts as appetite suppressor. I put one teaspoon of goat milk cream in each cup. This is about one gram of carbs per cup.

I’m trying the new Dave Asbury “ Danger Coffee” that has electrolytes in the coffee… it’s expensive but tastes great and gave me a better energy and no cramping from extra magnesium loss thru water. I noticed less hunger. Has anyone else tried this coffee?

I like the tase of coffee but, I don't drink it right now. I was drinking too much and as a result I was getting muscle cramps in my feet and legs. It depletes magnesium in the body because of increased urination. I have oxalate toxicity and losing magnesium isn't helpful for me.

TBH, I'm not enamored with the taste of coffee. But when I step away from my carnivore sphere and enter my endurance performance sphere, the enormity of studies related to the positive effects on endurance performance is undeniable. I take coffee only before a long workout or race, and it's an electrolyte-infused coffee which all endurance athletes need. Win-win.

I drink strong black Organic Free Trade coffee every morning, first thing... I usually only drink one large cup per day. I only drink it because I am hopelessly addicted and not at all because I enjoy it. I have tried over and over to kick it, but always go back. I have been mostly Carnivore for the past six years, and for a few months now nearly 100% Carnivore. I want desperately to kick this habit as I think it is problematic for me. I do have extreme anxiety and chronic diarrhea and I think coffee is the reason, but as I say, I am an addict have not been able to kick it.

A quick question. Is it ok to have coffee with heavy cream on carnivore
@DrTonyHampton
@DrTonyHampton 28 күн бұрын
Using heavy cream in coffee on a carnivore diet is generally acceptable for most people, as it aligns with the principles of staying animal-based. 1. Carb Content: While heavy cream is low in carbs, it’s not carb-free. It typically contains about 0.5 grams of carbs per tablespoon, so moderation is key, especially for those with strict carb goals. 2. Sensitivity to Dairy: Some people on carnivore may find that dairy, including heavy cream, triggers inflammation, digestive issues, or stalls progress. If they notice any issues, they might want to try eliminating it temporarily to see if it helps. 3. Fat Intake: For those aiming for a high-fat carnivore approach, heavy cream can be a good addition, as it’s rich in fat and can help meet daily caloric needs. 4. Alternatives: If someone finds heavy cream doesn’t work for them, options like butter, ghee, or even plain black coffee could be good substitutes.

Good morning, Dr Hampton. Thank you for the video!😊 GREAT information! & thank you for the sources!😊 I drink coffee most days, because I like the taste. However, I have to add heavy whipping cream, and a little sweetener, so really, I probably don’t like the taste of coffee. lol But also, I don’t feel great after I drink it, so I know that I need to eliminate it. I think that it has just become a habit at this point.🫤 I hope you have a great day! 🙏 😊
