There’s an excellent hack for those who don’t prefer breakfast early in the morning. In India, many people start their day with about 8-10 almonds soaked overnight in water. You peel off the skin (better for absorption, reduces the digestive discomfort) and eat the almonds chewing slowly. I find them delicious. And it’s kind of meditative. Then I head for my single cup of coffee with cow’s milk or almond milk. Blood sugar stays steady for hours. Hope this helps and Jesse, thank you!

Soy milk has a low glycemic index (GI) and glycemic load (GL), which indicates it has a minimal impact on blood sugar levels: • The glycemic index of soy milk is around 30-34, classifying it as a low GI food. Foods with a GI below 55 are considered low. • The glycemic load of soy milk is approximately 1.8, which is also categorized as low. A GL under 10 is considered low. Nutritional Composition The nutritional profile of soy milk contributes to its minimal effect on blood glucose: • Carbohydrate content: Soy milk contains about 4-6 grams of carbohydrates per 100 grams, which is relatively low. • Protein content: Soy milk is a good source of protein, with about 3.3 grams per 100 grams. Protein helps slow down the absorption of carbohydrates, further reducing the potential for glucose spikes. • Fat content: With about 1.8 grams of fat per 100 grams, soy milk’s fat content also contributes to a slower digestion process, helping to moderate glucose release.

I wouldn't put dairy milk matcha-lattes if you're drinking it for health reasons. Some of the proteins in cow's milk (esp. casein) can reduce the absorption of many beneficial nutrients. Matcha is known for its antioxidant compounds like polyphenols, flavonoids and catechins. A handful of studies suggest that proteins in milk can bind into those, making them less available for our bodies to absorb.

If u get rid of that resistance (by decreasing fat in the diet to 15-20% and eating Whole Foods), then u can have your oatmilk. ;) Switching to cows milk will only cause further harm for heart disease, liver health, cancer risk, etc. Her non-diabetic glucose spikes as seen after a meal as well after her presentation mentioned is normal.

As my coffee water gets close to boiling (pour-over) I put some of that hot water into a cup, squeeze whatever citrus I have on hand into it, cool with water, and sip it, feeling the cleansing wash into my conduits, replacing lost overnight moisture, and tempering the coffee that' s just around the corner. My absolute favorite is to have herbal tea in the morning, and coffee just before lunch -heaven! but I'm addicted to early coffee. Not the coffee itself, but the taste, the ritual, and fortunately like it black and weak. Jessie is right on. Takes a bit more discipline than I usually have...

Consider yourself lucky! I wish I didn’t need coffee to wake up, but I’m a creative type/natural night owl, and living in an early bird kinda world is tough on me. If you wake just fine without caffeine then you can do a different morning routine like hot water and lemon, or invent your own “morning cup” of health benefits. Coffee’s main magic is the effects of caffeine giving us energy (which you already have?) Plus the routine = reward center, part of our brains. You can mimic that in your own way !
@mariusd78038 ай бұрын
Coffee doesn’t give you energy. That’s a red herring right there. Caffeine is a psychoactive substance that mimics energy by activating the adrenal glands and releasing the stress hormone cortisol which gives you the buzzy feeling. To someone with a disregulated nervous system, caffeine is a no no. It can cause anxiety and panic. It’s not for everyone. Some people can handle it, some can’t

Also notice there’s a study that depending on your genetics coffee may increase your chances to heart attack whilst for others it diminishes. Growing evidence shows that interindividual differences in caffeine response may be partly due to variations in genes such as CYP1A2 and ADORA2A, which have been used to identify individuals as "fast" or "slow" caffeine metabolizers and as having a "high" or "low" caffeine sensitivity, respectively

For those who don't know, the Kirkland brand of almond milk at Costco is unsweetened and pretty cheap at $15 for a 12-pack of 32 oz boxes. You don't have to be a member to buy it online and the non-member fee is very small.
@pat40058 ай бұрын
Unless you buy (or make homemade) almond milk from blanched almonds, most almond milk is manufactured with whole almonds, which means the skin is included in the making of the almond milk and it contains both lectins and phytic acid. So it's definitely not a good choice if you use it daily. Almonds are great and tasty, but like any nuts and seeds, not good every day because of those compounds. Phytic acid can impair mineral absorption in your diet. Oxalic acid is another "anti-nutrient" that can hinder mineral absorption.

The last couple of years my doctor have been telling my sugar level is borderline. I have non-alcoholic fatty liver. My body is overloaded with iron too and I am lactose intolerant. So I used to eat oat grain or multi-grain or brad bread with peanut butter (with honey) for breakfast so I stopped it because the bread increases iron and then this year I started eating steel-cut oats with bananas, peanut butter and walnuts for breakfast. (Obviously, I love peanut butter, lol!) Trying hard to find a balance of everything. Now I am back to drinking black coffee once a day during or after lunch because it is the best time to drink it to aid my fatty liver problem. Your savory breakfast is something I have to analyze more if any of those recipes not only lowers sugar level but at the same time helpful with my fatty liver condition. I am running out of breakfast ideas. Your videos are informative and easy to understand and very different from other sites that you have to register or pay first to watch the whole video or listen to 3/4 of the video which was more promo ad and the last 1/4 is the real bottom line of the subject.

As ever great video thanks. I read the comments about no glucose spikes if you don’t eat anything, which seems fairly obvious whilst hard for many to do. I try and eat each morning but soften the spike with low GI foods as well as that containing no carbs..eggs etc. So I do still have steel cut oats with blueberries, just a small amount after a poached egg or two. I also have a little olive oil mixed with lemon juice, cayenne pepper and turmeric to start my day, after I’ve had some water, Himalayan salt and white vinegar. It’s all easy to do and I soak the oats overnight in water. I also finish any meal with some plain Greek Yogurt with a few blueberries, again this seems to temper any spikes I may have caused! I do walk after I eat with my dog and play golf regularly, which is a must to keep the weight off and slow the spikes down. My type 2 diabetes seems to like this approach, it’s gone into remission with my weight dropping away. I have learned that we are all unique and things I would have swerved 5 years ago I happily consume now, knowing the benefits they bring. I should also say that I have finally given up alcohol, the best move by far IMHO, it helps both physically and mentally. I hope some of this may help someone out there. Good luck to everyone out there!

In the oat milk latte comparison (12:25), the brand listed has 17 grams of added sugar per serving (240ml) for a total of 25g of carbs. I blend my own oat milk from an oat milk powder (e.g., Norcal Organic) which has only a single ingredient (oats!). It has 15g of carbs, 4 being natural occurring sugars, 1 being fiber. I sweeten with a monk fruit/erythritol combo, flavor with vanilla and add healthy fats (avocado & macadamia nut oils) to improve mouthfeel. With mostly complex carbs, I would imagine a very different spike compared to the Pacific Foods oat milk or the Horizon milk which has 12g of sugars.

Two questions: 1: what about decaf? I love it and it should not cause stress hormones -> sugar spike? 2: When you talk about breakfast being super imported because if you get a sugar spike you wreak havoc all day: Is breakfast meant first meal of the day or are we talking about eating in the morning? I dont eat breakfast, but I get up at 7:30am and eat lunch around 11:30am. Does it count as "breakfast" in regard of what you said?

Hi. Out of personal experience, I would say your first meal of the day regardless of when you eat it. I do intermittent fasting and if I have too much sweet stuff with my "breakfast" I'm pretty much guaranteed the glucose roller coaster. That's just my experience though, so take it as you will.

Soooooooooorry, Jessie 😜, to rain 💦🌧💦 on your stylish parade again 😂 buuuuuuuuut if we're talking coffee ☕, we HAVE TO mention ROASTING: dark roasts are known to produce higher amounts of ACRYLAMIDE, a compound known to cause cancer and which builds up in the body over time. So, unless you know any better, Jessie (please tell us! 😜), you want a LIGHT or MEDIUM ROAST, NOT A DARK ROAST Additionally, you want certified ORGANIC coffee ☕. You DON'T need any more pesticides 👎😝👎 in your body Thanks for the lovely presentation! 😎
@Cometcast128 ай бұрын
Excellent point! I try and tell everyone I know that light roasts have more caffeine and other properties, because the beans haven’t been roasted to oblivion they retain more of their compounds, just the same as gently cooking vs. over-cooking food. Starbucks kind of tricked everyone into thinking darker, darkest, is best (which isn’t true). I think they tilted the marketing of coffee that way to sell their beans since very dark and intense coffee wasn’t a thing in the U.S. at the time except espresso lovers, which was a smaller percentage of the population. They made us think darker and darker roasting was elite or something
@Cometcast128 ай бұрын
But the acrylimide and going organic is huge too… glad you said it! Do you have an affordable light roast organic brand you like you can recommend?

Thank you soooooooooo much for replying. This shows not only that you really care but that this is an interactive dialogue from which we can all learn and help one another 👍😎👍 I didn't realize Starbucks was behind the darker roasts preference 😮 A corporation that puts health before profit is a corporation to be praised. Sadly, they're so rare 😪 I don't buy coffee brands. I go to a store such as Rainbow or Sprouts in the SF Bay Area where they have a selection of organic coffee beans, light, medium and dark roast, and pick a mix of light to medium beans of different origins ALL ORGANIC 👍😎👍 I'm sure there are stores like those all over the U.S. (Whole Foods used to be one in SF but they're phasing out bulk coffee in most stores here. Not sure why, though 🤔 But I wouldn't be surprised if profit were the reason) Anyway, yes, lighter roasts to preserve the POLYPHENOLS and ANTIOXIDANTS and minimize the ACRYLAMIDE in coffee ☕ Thanks, Jessie, for spreading the word on GOOD HEALTH 👍 for us 🇺🇸 all 🌏 in America and the world! Love the smell of coffee. You know that beautiful smell when you walk down the coffee island at the grocery store? mmmm. Quit a few times due to breast lumps and painful breasts, it helped a little, but I am back on coffee. I find it if I drink one cup in the morning it's harmless and doesn't affect my sleep schedule. Also, I am not like those people who drink coffee first thing in the morning. I hydrate. I hydrate first thing with about 16oz of purified water with lemon squeezed in. I find it its more about hydration and balance. So if you hydrate before you drink coffee and then hydrate after your body will receive coffee as a beneficial thing. Also, I put fish collagen in my coffee, I use a ceramic dripper for coffee, no plastic. I use organic-only coffee, I add vanilla extract, turmeric, and cinnamon, and let it all drip into my morning glass mug. Then I often add almond milk, organic of course. So you see I just made a cup of coffee that actually has so many benefits, plastic-free, no waste, with all the add-ons that are so good for you. Find a way to turn your somewhat unhealthy foods into healthy ones like this one. Try this and you will not be sorry.
