Does Destiny 2's Oldest Exotic Scout Rifle Still Hold Up?

In this video we'll be taking a look [redacted...even though many of you probably already guessed what it is] in the current PvP sandbox of Destiny 2. I'll run the damage numbers and share my thoughts on how I think it preformed after hopping into the Crucible with it for five matches. Enjoy! 🍻

MIDA sits in a weird spot for me where it's really cool in theory but doesn't quite fit in practise. Far as I can tell it's perks are very simple but well tuned to the point it's like the pinnacle of what you'd want from a legendary pvp scout rifle, but that leaves it as just a really good scout rifle with no "space magic wackiness" that other exotics or certain weapon perks have, which means it's basically all user skill from there which I'm certainly lacking in. I feel like it'd be a highly satisfying weapon to practise with and get really good at using because of that, but it doesn't have that same upfront fun factor that other exotics have to catch/ hold my attention so I keep slipping off it whenever I do pick it up; The skill gap is in general gunplay and not figuring out handling the weapon itself like with Ticuu's or Final Warning.

love mida, and I love ego challenging even more. no distractions+high cal rounds and the radar while ads is great for duels. also it’s a monster in momentum control with 2 headshot kills

Honestly the thing that throws me is the pretty low stability. Its not unmanageable, but it feels like it clashes with the gun being nimble and lightweight. Feels like it kicks more than it should. Low stability adds more to your cognitive load in a fight for recoil correction, and any recoil deviation gets compounded as you take flinch. No Distractions helps, but with a weapon that demands high accuracy, any deviations can and often will net a loss. No Distractions doesn't feel very run and gun either, maybe Perfect Float or Zen Moment would be better? I like the idea of the gun. Using the MIDA combo to get to lanes fast, pre aiming to get No Distractions up, beaming someone and keeping the radar up to switch to MIDA Mini when you're flanked; its a cool thought. Just feel like it'd feel a lot better with 20 more stability and maybe Precision Instrument added to the catalyst if not an overall buff to 200rpm scouts to 3c1b all resiliences. Hell, Graviton Lance got two perks for its catalyst, why not MIDA?

I do agree that it's stability can be an issue. Rather than having No Distractions as the catalyst perk, it would have been nice to see something that upped it's overall consistency while maintaining its "on the go" feel. 👍👍

I feel you brother. Guardian Games forced me back into PvP and the first two matches were miserable. Just keep at it and find the weapons that you feel most confident with and it can be a better experience.

No doubt about that! The Crucible feel especially unforgiving recently. I fear that many of the "casual" player may have bailed and it's really just the PvP stalwarts filling the playlists currently. It's rough out there for sure! 😂🍻

I personally enjoy Mida. Closing in on 2,000 kills in pvp. I recently paired it with Calus mini and the combo is great. The ornaments alone help Mida gain some advantage it feels like but the engagements due call for perfect aim or your enemy missing a single shot. But I do hope to see more of this series honestly.

I really used to enjoy the old Multi / Mini combo! In the early days of D2, it was a force to be reckoned with! I was also really excited when the ornaments started releasing that swapped the chevron for a red dot. Even that couldn't save me this time around though.😅 I'm happy to hear that you're continuing to find success with it though! 😁👍

@IronworkerGaming I believe there's only 2 ornaments that actually change Mida from a Chevron to a dot. I mainly used the on in the video personally, but it's just something I picked up wondering how it felt, and it stuck around. Calls mi I didn't pop up till one game when a player was going off with it, so I redid my pve to pvp with a threat detector. Its been a combo. I can't say no to. Though I look forward to what slept on weapons you'll show in the next video cause it's very fun to watch. Heard Trust from Gambit is nice ;p

I havent played since the first season of Light fall, but I will say....Mida is a favorite of mine. Scouts and sidearms are a pvp pleasure of mine. Specifically an exotic scout and the full-auto sidearms I cant remember the name of. Or an legendary scout and my laser beam sidearm

Been a hot minute since the last time I saw or even picked up Multi-Tool. Like it's name I think it still holds up as decent to good reliable tool with some extra benefits from having a spare Mini Tool, however a specialized tool may perform better at times. Also great to see you back as well, it's been a while. If I can also make a suggest for a future Five Games With, I'd love to see Vigilance Wing in the spotlight. It's been practically glued to my hands the few times I play Crucible once a season.

i typically would pair mida with a 450 auto right now, or maybe a 600 after 450's get nerfed. or shayuras is a good choice. you want to use the ar at most ranges, and pull out mida when the opponent is suffering damage dropoff. think of it like a sniper rifle, altho mida is also one of the most versatile scouts at all ranges. if you fight pulse, hc or ar when they arent suffering damage dropoff, yeah youre gonna have a tough time. the good news is everything but scouts is pretty much hard capped around 40m nowdays. you dont really see range outliers anymore since bungo made the zoom changes. there used to be outlier pulses that could hit full damage to 50m+, (BXR didnt hit this far, more like 46 typically iirc, altho there were rangefinder rolls. but back when bxr was 20 zoom and zoom was tied to damage, it was also a range monster) not anymore.

Very true. Scouts kind of have that long range primary roll all to themselves now with the zoom changes and the bow nerf (I'm sure bow users are still out there but I've seen far less of them). 👍👍

Great idea. I'd love to hear more from your opinion on guns in pvp. Nothing against the streamer powerhouses but I personally just don't have the skillset of people like cross or frostbolt.. It's nice that they can crot on 99% of their shots.. I can't.. So it would be nice to hear from just a good pvp player how guns are doing in their hands :)

When I first started on KZbin, many of my videos revolved around trying to share a more relatable perspective on PvP weapons for an average player. I think we're gonna get a few more grey hairs before Bungie figures out how to make this good again. MIDA was my first exotic in D1 and it's heartbreaking to know that it can't hang with the big boys. What Bungie should do is combine the Radar perk with the Lightweight one and then give us three different perks in the third AND fourth columns. Utility perks like Osmosis, Permeability, and Precision Instrument. This way you can customize the weapon for your build. The catalyst should be Tracer Rounds: targets struck by these bullets will be marked and can be tracked by ADSing (3 seconds in PvP).

It does need some help to get back on level footing with many of our other weapons. If it were my decision, I'd transition it to being a craftable exotic. There's nothing that stands out as oppressively strong with it in it's current state, so giving players the freedom to mix and match the perks on it could bring closer to the point of relevancy. 👍🍻

Hahaha! I most certainly do! I do believe that lightweight SMGs got a bit of a nerf awhile back, and it doesn't feel like they're quite what they used to be. Definately feel that lightweight scouts feel very down right now. At beat their the you better land the first bullet or you lose the 1v1. Everytime i use mida i feel like i rely on my enemy to land a body or miss a bullet in order for me to win that duel. If i face up against a 140 handcannon im at a disadvantage unless they miss or land a body. That 0.9 TTK hurts mida big time and the high cal flinch doesnt really help. Mida is forgiving and feels good but when your facing enemies that are high level and are running meta options mida gets ran over big time.

It does feel like they're in kind of a tough spot currently, especially Mida since it lacks any intrinsic way of upping it's damage. I definitely felt the pain of having that slightly below average ttk which was only exaggerated by my inability to consistently keep on the head. Hopefully things go better with next weeks weapon! 😅👍

add whether or not the weapon has any PVE value (even if it's situation/event specific). I used to LOVE MIDA in Destiny 1. Had one that supported 27 rounds. I used that thing everywhere and loved it. I could even do decent in some crucible maps and definitely did ok in Iron Banner back in D1 using it as my play style was lay back and shoot from afar. Don't have the reflex skills for close engagement and today I only do Crucible when forced in order to meet desired goals (like recent Guardian games stuff). Haven't dusted off MIDA in some time in D2 because scout rifles in general are meh and have been for years. Even in PVE they require too many shots to kill even red bar enemies in far too many activities. Truly a shame as I have a couple nice variants with exploding rounds that don't do much.

I appreciate the suggestion, but I would like to keep the focus of this series on PvP. I already try to make one (sometimes two) full weapon break downs each week that focus pretty heavily on the PvE aspects of a given weapon. I fear that bringing PvE into the mix with these ones would just result in...more of what I've already been doing. Keeping these videos on the shorter side and Crucible focused will hopefully help in getting more videos out the door while giving everyone something that's slightly different from my standard content. 👍🍻

You're not wrong about the gun. It's one of my personal favorites design wise. But it's really a disappointment to use. It doesn't Duel well. Most exchanges end in draws or just losing out right. It's damage is so poor that missing shots either means disengaging or praying the other guy misses too. Idk about the No distraction perk either. The weapon really says run and gun. Not lane and pray. Great synergy with the mini tool tho. You'll have most of your fun with that.

They fixed the amount of flinch mida takes. It was unusable before the recent patch in trials or comp because everything flinched it to the moon
