I was a huge beer drinker but when I took up running my beer consumption took away from my running so I don't drink as much as I use to. I might have a beer or two on a night out but I my desire to improve my running supersedes the need to drink excessively.

I love a nice beer about three hours after a run. Hydrate then an ice cold beer just hits the spot in the weekends.

Love to run!!! Never took a drink. Quit soda too. But I have seen many many who run always seem to enjoy drinking at after run events. So I usually feel left out. But really don't care. Thanks for your info

I drink mostly alcohol-free beer (0.5%) since I am not looking for the effects alcohol has on me but simply for a refreshing, tasty drink other than pop. Am I right to assume that .5% beer is "less damaging" than 4.5% (Light beer) or 5%?

You talked about how processing alcohol uses glucose, but it was my understanding that in breaking down alcohol the liver also uses water, which, if true, could exacerbate hydration levels. Is there any evidence that supports alcohol being dehydrating?

yup, totally dehydrates!

Is a beer with dinner good? Nope but it is better than a soda! Almost never drink soda anymore but do have around 1 beer a day. As long as you dont over do it i haven't noticed a major difference in my recovery. Just my opinion

preparing for my first marathon in a couple of months and did my 25 km run this week. the plan is to drink three beers a week (150cl), either two one night and one on another or three on different post runs. is this a nice number? would it worsen me? and the question is when is the best time to drink these? i imagine it is after completing long runs.

Let's not skirt around this... alcohol is a highly addictive and toxic drug that weirdly gets a free pass due to how embedded it is in our culture. What if race organizers had a coke garden at the finish line and all the runners got a free line? Is doing that line of coke (just one, in moderation, of course) OK after a run? I mean, I know I could use the pick-me-up after a long race, and it would make me feel rewarded for all my effort. In any case, thanks for being brave enough to post this - it's not a popular topic.

My Garmin app tells me I don't get too much deep sleep. How much deep sleep should I be getting?
@DartmoorPaul5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I enjoy a post race drink rather than during training, but interesting to hear how liver processes alcohol & that affects you and the deep sleep disturbance. 👍

Elizabeth Inpyn soda as in sugary drinks, or just carbonated water? I love sparkling water but never found a lot on its effects

Moderation is key. The scientific data is very mixed on the healthfulness of alcohol on the general population. So making broad claims about the negative effects is a disservice. If you are free of medical ailments and eat a healthy diet, alcohol in moderation has minimal negative health effects.

i think it is more about WHEN you drink the alcohol after/before exercise
