I usually get 7-9 hours a night. Turning off all electric media a couple of hours before bed and reading a book allows me to get to sleep easily.

In the winter I get 8-9 hours of sleep and sometimes even more, depending on workouts. Now it's summer and it's 30c in my bedroom, so I sleep about 7 hours (sometimes 8) in 1-2 hour splits (when I usually need to drink). As it is summer and bright, even in cool room I sleep about the same, but continuously. And I don't feel tired at all.

I LOVE plant based golden milk before bed. You mix a plant based milk with turmeric, ginger, black pepper, a little coconut oil and honey. It’s warm and soothing , and a FANTASTIC anti-inflammatory, to help speed up the recovery process.

Can someone post a more detailed recipe for this? This sounds like something my wife will love!

Great video. I’ve been having quite a few disturbed nights due to new puppy in house. Training at the weekend was really tough mentally and physically. Had to back right off as tired. Today, you’re right, I craved sugary carbs.

That puppy phase can be rough, but hopefully you have a great running partner in the future! :)

Green tea works for me. I am one that gets 5-6 per night, but I've worn my Garmin while sleeping. On the nights I drink green tea about 30min before bed, my deep sleep increases by around double than my average. From 1-1.5hrs to 2-3hrs of deep sleep. And I sleep a bit longer.

I prefer green tea, i do lowest caffeinated ones, but it might work with any tea. I haven't tried any others. I found out by mistake. Decided to drink tea late one night. Didnt plan to go to sleep. 30min late I woke up 8hrs later. LOL So decided to test it for 5 days. 2 nights with tea, 2 nights without, 1 night with. And yes, yay Garmin. Not only did I feel better rested and ready for the next day with the night time tea, but I had some hard data to convince me. This worked for me and could just be a personal thing. Might be my version of warm milk.

This topic has really been on my radar the past few weeks, ever since I watched to a Kelly Starrett video where he talked about sleep and how if you're getting less than 6.5 hours a night, then your body is effectively pre-diabetic, so lack of sleep really messes with your blood chemistry in not good and sustainable ways. Dathan Ritzenhein, in Nate's UCan sponsored panel discussion also mentioned that sleep was his number one training tip. I know a lot of elite athletes take naps every day to help recovery during two-a-day workouts out of necessity.

I get about 6-8 hrs but they aren't quality. I think I'll try the valerian root tea or the tart cherry juice before bed. Thanks for the suggestions and your videos!

I do shift work which really messes with my sleep. 3 weeks of afternoon 5 days off then 1 week of nights 1.5 days off then 3 days 2 afternoons and 2 nights then 1.5 days off then 3 early starts followed by 4 early starts. Very hard to do a routine and have no answer.

Alan, sometimes you just have to set a calendar in front of you and plug in the times you can run, make it a plan.

Garmin says I get 7-8 hours a night. Strangely some night I get 22 minutes of deep sleep and others over 4 hours. Stress erm I work in IT it’s not a healthy environment for a body

Well girls the part you maybe don’t know is how the night shifter manage with life and training 🙈 so hard and also in those 7 hours I get up in the middle so I can fuel myself for the 6 pm long run

As an 18 year old distance runner and endurance athlete, I only get 3-5 hours of sleep a night. I might get more after watching this 😂

Hi Im a beginner runner and just been running for a month now for about 5 or 6 times a week about 35-40kms. And then i just stopped for a 7 days because the top of my foot hurts so bad when I strike my left foot. I can feel a sharp pain everytime right on my 1st and 2nd cuneiform and metatarsus. Its been going on for about 2-3 weeks now. I changed my shoes as well (hoping that will help with the pain). Im just wondering if you can give me some advice how to treat it? Thanks!!

Hi Martha! We have some videos up on the channel regarding footstrike/foot strengthening. Check those out and I'd also recommend seeing your doctor or PT if pain has lasted a while.
