wow, I didn't know that, I have a Rav4 Prime plug in that I just bought about a week ago.

@@PhaseSkater The Rav4 Prime is unbelievable, I filled up my first tank of gas at 2,280 miles. Running the plug-in’s 40+ miles and then it shifting automatically to hybrid mode after really saves on gas. Also, that thing has over 300 hp when put into sport mode, and it will take off like a little rocket. Plus, like all Toyota’s it’s build rock solid. I love it, the only problem is trying to get one. I heard that it’s taking over a year to get one and it’s only made in Japan. I was lucky that the person who had originally ordered it waited for so long that by the time it came it, he bought a truck instead.

@@damienblack1734 whats the average mpg when just running in hybrid mode? like a road trip in the real world. hard to find online results. and here in portland, there are rav4 primes on every block. extremely common here

@@PhaseSkater wow, that’s very unusual because if you look at all the videos on youtube they’re very rare, and here in Hawaii, it’s a year-long wait. But if you can get it, get it now, again they’re only made in Japan and a lot of people believe that the Japan version of any Japanese cars no matter what brand tends to be a little bit better built. But regarding your question. I drove my Rav4 without charging it up and just ran it only on hybrid mode and got around 45 mpg. But my driving is a little unusual. I drive about 78 miles per day. Half of it is uphill and the other half down hill-pretty much from sea level to around 3k feet elevation. So on the way back down I regenerate about 16 miles of charge that I use the next day to go back up the hill. I suspect if I was driving on a flatter area like where you’re at I may get better gas mileage. It’s really kinda of hard to say since it really depends on the terrain you’re driving on. Even when I have my Rav4 fully charged at 42 miles on EV plug-in charge, it will only last for about 20 miles then shift to hybrid mode because the steep incline will draw a lot of current, and that car is heavy. My friend owns a Nissan Leaf and it has a 150 mile range but it can’t make it to the top of the mountain here (Haleakala) which is only about 50 miles away because the incline is too much (sea-level to 10,300 ft). But yeah, it’s gonna be hard to find real world results because it depends on your own situation. But keep in mind that the Rav4 is a hybrid that already gets great gas mileage, but when you add the ability to plug-in and charge and get about 40 miles free before it turning into a regular hybrid car, it’s fantastic. Plus, the prime has the additional benefit of having that 300+ horse power that the normal Rav4 hybrid doesn’t have nor does any other hybrid along with the reliability of a Toyota. And after everything is said and done, that’s what it comes down to, reliability and you’d be very hard press to find a car that is more reliable than a Toyota. Although Honda’s are not bad either.
