I think the amount of moisture is more to blame than preservatives. McDonald's fried are the thinnest and creepiest/driest. Least amount of mold. The thicker cut fries are going to have more moisture. More mold.
@jcstrain73
@jcstrain73 5 жыл бұрын
I think this is right. The thinner/crispier fries (McDonalds and to a lesser extent CFA) get desiccated and sort of mummify before the mold has a chance to set in. I have kids and find french fries they've dropped on the floor that are rock-hard and mold-free, especially individual ones just exposed to air (and thus which can dry out faster in dry/hot air). Putting them in a jar like Tyler did would make them move likely to get moldy because it'd prevent much of the water from evaporating. I bet if you left the fries just like sitting on the table they'd have all mummified (and probably attracted rats).

Generic Name No... No its not. Lets just say 90% of french fry products you eat come from one company. All five fast food places he tested get their fries from the same company. Infact i have built the equipment that makes these fries. It has everything to do with moisture content in the fries, not oil. Also, the only thing added to the fries is salt... Thats it...

Regardless of this, the same test has been done with burgers and other things from McDonald's. hardly any of it molds... Theory: the more moisture in the jar presented the most mold. I think maybe those ones were frozen longer. Possibly freezer burnt, and often Dairy Queen and Burger King have the most “freezer burnt then fried” taste to me. Like maybe those two brands order from a specific vendor, whereas Mcd’s and Chik have always had a super distinct taste and had the least mold.

How warm were they when you put them in the jars? If any were still warm or hot that would contribute to more moisture and more mold.

Fun experiment!😆 I'd like to see this done with a full meal including soda since that is what most people buy, maybe a cheeseburger, fries, and coke or pepsi since nearly every burger restaurant sells them. More restaurants would be cool too! Your lack of protective gear scares my britches off! I really wish you'd protect your lungs and peepers.

I think some of the fries may have not moulded at all if you had kept them on trays rather than putting them into jars, as humidity had built up in the jars causing them to mould more. I've heard of McDonalds food lasting and not moulding for years, and I think part or all of this was down to the fact that they weren't in jars which meant they just dried out. Maybe you could try preserving food, and see which method works out the best. Like I dunno, cover a food item with nail varnish, put another food item in bleach, let it soak the bleach up and then take the food out, completely burn another food item and then see what happens to that, etc.

In the 90s, I used to work at Mickey Ds and daily when I went out the back to throw the trash the dumpster was filled with Big Macs, burgers, chicken nuggets. We threw away lots of hamburgers because the time for them ran out and had to throw them away because of bacteria growth and avoid for people getting sick. I once did an experiment with all of them and left each burger in a dark place for about two months. I’m not lying to you when I came back the hamburgers weren’t full of mold but still looked the same.
