The issue of cold is not the only problem. On darker fabric the lines can bleach/react with the dye and you will be left with permanent lines in all temperatures.

Thank you! This is a great “test”! I would never trust a pen (or any marker) on a quilt that isn’t created for quilting. I work too hard on my creations to have them ruined.

I have a quilt block that I quilted last week after drawing quilting lines with a black Frixion pen. Wish I had done a test. Some of the lines disappeared but some became white lines. I was in Dawn this week hoping to get rid of them but it didn’t. I am going to wash in Tide tomorrow & hope for the best. My Frixion pen is going in the trash🙄😱

I don't like to guess, but I'll give it a try this time: I think something will show somewhere on both units. But thank you for testing this so we all don't have to repeat the same testing.

I have noticed that a bleached line remains after I iron over the ink. I use my pens only to mark the center cutting line when I’m making pairs of half square triangles. What is the fabric you used for the “scrubbie” side?

I've never noticed a bleach line before. Thanks for letting me know. I'll have to keep an eye out for it! The scrubby side is a bit of an experiment. The other reusable sponges I've seen use rough netting, but I don't have any of that in my craft room. I did have a bunch of tulle, though. I tried to use it to protect my garden from squirrels. I'm not sure how long the tulle will last. So far I've just been using the sponges to clean my countertops and they've been working great.

I'm predicting that both pieces will have lines returned. No matter what the outcome I won't be putting marks on my quilts unless I want them to stay there.

It won't reappear, but I understand Friction pens leave bleaching lines on batiks. Don't know haven't tried it.

How upsetting. I once had that problem with a blue chalk pencil that I thought I had patch tested with success. Much gentle scrubbing with a soft toothbrush and soap later it faded so it was much less visible but I could still see tiny bits. That pencil went in the pin! I only use water soluble ink pens on lights or white chalk on darks for marking quilting lines now.
