AMD lost competitiveness with Intel because the company culture and focus was wrong, they got back to where they are now by changing the culture. Intel seem to be unwilling to change. They hired Jim Keller and he obviously couldn't get any buy-in from the management there and so left.
@TheLouisianan
@TheLouisianan 3 жыл бұрын
@@6581punk That culture always works top down too. Having worked for a global company vs a smaller, national level one I can tell you it's a huge difference. @@JMPERager Depends on the type of person you are. I find a lot of other engineers like myself would rather have a stable paycheck and less responsibility (to managing finances, etc) especially if they have a family to feed. I don't know how it would be for a hardware developer, but a startup business has to compete with Intel and AMD depending on what they're doing with that new business. Mechanical engineers usually end up doing something like consulting or they have already made a product before and want to produce more because they've found a market for it without much competition.

If i were to rip apart my lenovo desktop, I would go AMD as the replacement as I heard nothing but good things about their stuff. If i had the cash to do it, i would go that route myself. Of course I would look at benchmarks and stuff before buying to get the lay of the land and look at prices to see what I can afford. Like what motherboard series I would have to go for (I know I would go with the B series) and stuff. I could build a pretty nice system for a good price that offers a very good amount of gaming performance.

Intel is like if Toyota sold the 'Corolla 5' for $5000, with a physical bolt punched into the gearbox which prevented you from putting the car into 5th gear. Then they also sell the Corolla *5K* with the bolt removed, for $6,000 - BUT if you break down and have driven in 5th gear at any time regardless of what gear you were in when the car broke down, they won't repair the car because you didn't buy the '5th gear insurance'. I guess they're using the 'Apple business model' of shitting on their customers' faces and charging a fee for the privilege.

@Jaws1200
@Jaws1200 3 жыл бұрын
Sean O'Connell Heated seats are not included in the rear on the Standard Range Plus Model 3. They are there but they are not turned on for the rear (basically on-disc DLC). However you get a cheaper up front price as a result, so not really a middle-finger to the consumer who does their homework, more of a manufacturing/cost efficiency.
@Skiman601
@Skiman601 3 жыл бұрын
Us SR+ owners actually couldn't even enable the rear heated seats until later. It was actually a nice offer to give us the option to pay for them. Tesla listened to the request and gave us a solution, actually the opposite of Intel.

@Jaws1200

baron_xd : Not necessarily, as there are more things that go into the entire manufacturing cost of a car besides the cost of materials. There are manufacturing efficiencies and labor costs that are factored into the ultimate price point of the vehicle and in this instance, Tesla has determined that it is cheaper to just install the same part in every car instead of retooling/shuffling around parts on the assembly line or making an entirely separate part just to not include this feature. They likely don’t even have a back seat part manufactured without the heating coils because it just wasn’t worth it to design/manufacture, so it’s much more worth it to offer it later and likely recoup some of that cost in a future sale over the money that would have been saved on those materials in the first place.

OMG.... Dude, I cannot tell to how very much in love I am with you right this very minute! 👍🏽💙 I've been a fan and follower for quite some time and over time I have steadily come to respect you and your knowledge, your humor, your tech & the absolute geek in you that comes through everything you do. I'm constantly amazed at the range and scope of topics you cover; as well as astonishing array of insanely supportive & wildly accessible sponsors and tech companies, manufactures, OEMs and retail / sales forces with whom you've joined forces over the years to create the freshest and coolest content...not to mention some of the most EXPENSIVE tech a guy could ever hope to get his hands on! All that said, this video has been A LONG DAMN TIME COMING and I am eternally grateful to you for using your HUGE voice and name recognition to speak this desperately needed truth to power about the current forward leaning, pro-consumer state of the industry at large juxtapose the state of Intel--which is pathetically underwhelming, if not downright despicable and malevolent. I cheered and shouted and raised the roof right along with you throughout this video as you landed one brutal yet irrefutable blow after another. I am so in awe of you SPEAKING OUT FOR US FELLOW TECHIES & system builders who've been taking it in the shorts from Intel for far too long with their greed, willingness to backdoor hardware for the NSA and to remove or limit functionality & performance we had become dependent upon; versus knuckling down and investing in REAL R&D that was cutting edge and worthy of the extraordinary markups and artificial inflation of industry pricing. Your SPOT ON commentary blisteringly (albeit respectfully) outlined countless events, decisions and instances where Intel has shafted consumers by attempting repeatedly to destroy competition rather than commit to beating them both in performance and in price point, as well as how for 2½+ decades Intel has arrogantly abused consumers by insulting their intelligence, routinely overcharged for higher-end specs (particularly Extreme Edition CPUs & compatible MBs / chipsets), in addition to failing to be truly honest about the plethora of DEEP flaws in engineering of their processor architecture and the overwhelming range of critical security vulnerabilities that lurked in just about every modern PC since the advent of EM64T & dual core Pentiums! I fear they'll never recover from this systemic, pervasive and unapologetic company-wide culture of arrogance, hypocrisy and greed. AMD has them on the ropes again and it's gonna be one TKO after another because guys like us--you, me and those following your channel (gals too) are sick of the bullshit and refuse to be loyal to a brand and a company that has no loyalty to us. We want real performance and real innovation. We demand real bang for the buck and some clear evidence that we aren't just a meal ticket or a paycheck for the corporate shills. We are valued customers, consumers and we are respected and appreciated; as well as LISTENED TO when it matters most. You, sir, OWNED them like a boss in this video and I for one felt I had to say THANKS! I dunno where that came from....but I'm glad it did. You are a true ginger--fiery as hell. To say the least. I appreciate your sincerity, unwillingness to pull punches and to not just be one of those who shouts on the interwebs in fake outrage & indignation; but rather to be heartfelt, factual, instructional and unequivocal in your fervor to see Intel do the right thing(s) for a change. It's one thing to be merely vociferous for the sake of ratings, likes and subs. It's another entirely to have true INTEGRITY and grit. Plus, you actually have a dog in the fight so to speak; which average consumers don't necessarily have, save for their ability to spend their $$$ elsewhere (anyone else considering AMD Ryzen or Epyc for their next build?)! So, yeah.....I admit it. I have an enormous bro crush on you right now and I don't think that's gonna change any time soon. Well, in fairness, you are looking especially handsome in this video and then when you do your thing.....well, there is this whole hotness factor that just triggers me. I admit it. The fact that you happen to be super intelligent, motivated and witty as hell would make any sensible dude totally crush on you--if only secretly. 🤣 The fact that you also happen to be a ginger, which has always been a weakness of mine, only served to move you to the TOP of my must-watch list of subs and forced me to thoroughly embarrass myself by telling you so today! You're the man, Linus! Thanks again. Let's hope some higher ups at Intel are also quite partial to an incredibly smart, well-spoken ginger with his finger on the pulse and reality of WTF is truly up! 😉

*"The more enthusiasts that you piss off, the more likely it is that they're gonna recommend a competing product to family and friends"* This is very true. I've helped pick parts for a dozen PC:s for family and friends, and have to at least some extent helped to build/upgrade 5-6 of them. I've also been involved in helping non-tech friends purchase laptops, tablets, and phones, as spec sheets can be hard to read for someone who isn't as invested in tech as us enthusiasts. Basically, I've been directly involved with the selection of the parts picked for all of these builds and make recommendations based on the friends' needs, budget, and in general of how the market and looks, regarding pricing features and whatnot. If I don't like a brand, I won't suggest using it, and it really is as simple as that. Pissing off the enthusiasts can have quite a huge effect, as other people rely on us.
