Brilliant! Well right now I am staring at a screen editing videos and working out how to replace my steel toilet tank instead of having adventures it so it’s not all fun! However if you like recording guitar narrowboats have perfect acoustics! 8^)

It's funny how people in different parts of the world view the cold weather. It's -9C right now and I just finished plowing the snow from last night on my tractor. It's suppose to be -23C at night this Tuesday. I'll be warm with I come to visit and rent a narrowboat in the summer 2023. Looking forward to food and pubs everyday. Thanks for your videos. I'm working my way to the present day videos.

Although I am a Bristolian born and bread, I have lived in Poland for over 6 years now, but 3 years ago I spent a week on my friends narrow boat on the Kennet and Avon canal, and a lock keeper told me that apparently many narrow boats are now made in Poland!!?

Yeah I did a boat move once for a wide beam that was built there... through London though, not across the sea. Will be going to a wedding in Poland next year with my family 8^)

I loved this video, Robbie, thank you. It brought back memories of exciting times for me. I bought my boat in Thorne (Blue Water Marina) three years ago. I took my boat down the River Trent and then onto the Trent & Mersey Canal to Kidsgrove in 10 days. Took a train journey back up to Thorne South to get my car from the marina, then work the next day! phew! I have photos of the canal from Thorne to Keadby where it looked like a lawn, totally covered in duckweed and the water underneath was crystal clear. I am still living on my boat now and I love it. I like to tell people how horribly cold it is because I get fed up of being asked. Even when I try to tell them it's the same as a house..... if you don't put the heating on it is cold. But they never seemed convinced.

Hi Robbie, of course it gets cold. Lol... It would be neat if the River Trust would put electric sensors on the bridges. You cross the beam of light & the gate opens automatically. Great videos Robbie...... can We join the crew?......... we bought a boat last year as a project. Really interested in your visit to Thorne as our boat was built there by TTmarine in 1984. I've driven through Thorne a couple of times. I've always thought, regarding derelict buildings, someone must own them (you'd soon find out if you went to buy it) so why aren't they made responsible for the upkeep of those buildings? And, if they can't afford to maintain them, then should be forced to sell them.

Hi Robbie. Do you have a hot water bottle? - Really useful, this time of year - put it in the middle of the bed well before bedtime and it will warm the bed and the duvet. Laying your pillows on the bed, over the bottle, will warm them up too. And if you reheat the bottle just before bedtime it will keep you snug all night. (Works for me on my unheated boat) Happy Christmas!
@RobbieCumming7 жыл бұрын
Unheated boat?! That’s crazy!! I don’t tend to use my hot water bottle that often. I did have it out recently to warm my hands on during an ice cold cruise though!! 8^)

Robbie Cumming Dear Robbie, it's not as bad as I made it sound - was trying to keep my message short. I'm not a live-aboard, I've got a grp sailing boat, and it's got a diesel heater, but i'm not happy about sleeping with it running so I go to sleep in a rapidly cooling boat, and wake in a fridge. Hot water bottle keeps me warm in bed, and no risk of carbon monoxide. Have a great Christmas! Winston

Are you going to keep moving for the winter or hold up somewhere?

Well I’ve got another cruising video coming up, and plans to keep moving in Jan, but am currently moored in Lincoln city marina for Christmas as the water has been frozen and needed permanent electric hook up to produce these videos/work day job! 8^)

Coming back up the Thames after lock keeper hours you had to wind the hydruilic lock pumps by turning a large stainless steel wheel. Which in summer is pretty hot work so I took my jacket off, 3 more lacks later remembered my jacket which had all my keys in the pocket. So had to turn back and rewind 2 locks and the run the tow path back to where I'd left. Turn around again and repeat the process, boy did I sleep well that night. Never did that again!!!!!!!
