The treatment of Jacqueline McKenzie, and other lawyers - just doing their job, is sickening. Tories are going from proto/quasi-facist to straight, early stage facist.

I don't have one but I can understand why UK residents would be very partial to bidets. I went to Scotland for a couple weeks last summer and there wasn't a single roll of even mediocre toilet paper in the whole country.

Jon Stewart was making very similar arguments to and about the federal reserve in the US, he really put the screws to the guy in the interview, so I recommend looking that one up. I am once again struck by how alike the US and the UK are in the struggles we have with our nutty governments and overpowered financial institutions.

Phenomenal interview with Grace Blakely. ♥️ I appreciate so much how open this podcast is discussing the cost of living crisis. American podcasters do not want to acknowledge it at all. It feels like there is no conversation outside of tiktok about how the cost of living crisis is affecting average Americans. This interview reflected exactly how Americans are feeling as well better than any American economist.

It's ironic how some people will look at people receiving unemployment benefits and think "leech", when that money will 100% go back into the community, albeit too much of that money to landlords, but most of the money will be spent on necessities. And then there's the ultra rich that'll just sit on their mountain of money like Smaug, the dragon from the Hobbit.

I’d like to preface this message by saying I freaking love your podcast. You are making politics and current news accessible and interesting in a way that no one else can. Thank you so much!! I would also like to comment on Grace’s comments around inflation, jobs and the economy. She said we know things aren’t going to get better, but we have to organise to make sure that they do get better, but there was no elaboration on this point. How? What do we do? It felt a bit unfinished, and left me feeling confused for the rest of the podcast. Perhaps something you can address at a later point. Thank you for an amazing podcast, I shall continue to listen and enjoy!!! X

I don't matter how wealthy a person is, but whether or not they can empathise - preferably through experience - with the plight that many face day-to-day. Rishi could never imagine the idea of "not having" or "going without". The man has no idea about having the daily feeling of dread that each day can hold when you do not have enough money to feed, or house, yourself and those around you. I lived like that for 30 years, then married well, like our friend Rishi, and now I have to have opinions on Tory tax policy. But I will never forget what it's like trying to make dry noodles last for several days by skipping meals. I don't mind how much someone has, as long as they are willing to lift everyone else with them. There needs to be better policy, because "everyone marry a rich person" is not an effective means of social mobility.

1. Coco, isn’t every week xenophobia week for the Tories? It is for the Republicans in the US. 2. The US is having a similar moment right now regarding bidets. You can buy bidets that you can just attach to your existing toilet here. Do they not have that in the UK?

The wages are actually lower in relation to the value of the money. For example: In 1940 my grandfather earned the equivalent of $40,000. He and my grandmother had 3 small children. Women who were married with children weren't allowed to work outside the home. So on $40,000 they were able to buy a 5 room bungalow style home, which is the 1940s version of a ranch house. It was a three bedroom home. They did buy in a less expensive area, but it was a nice area, just slightly rural. Now not only do I not earn $40,000, but even if I did, I could never buy a home in my area (suberbs, not a city). In my town and those around me, including where my grandparents bought their home prices are astronomical. The cheapest fixer upper/dump is over $400,000 and a regular decent 5-6 room house is $500,000 and up. In my town a while back a basic ranch style home, similiar in size to my grandparents' 1940s house, sold for $715,000. It's essentially a starter house and it sold like it was a 9 room fancy house! No wonder everyone is so into tiny house living. Now if they would just allow them!

I love the inflation conversation. The guest says that 2-3% inflation is good. Here in the U.S., the MAGAs are trying to portray our 3% inflation as extremely high inflation. They spend lots of time saying how expensive car gasoline is when it's lower or similiar to pre-covid (early March 2020) prices. It should really be higher because it's August. The prices are always higher by at least .50-$1 because of higher demand during the summer months regardless of anything else that's going on. So in reality the gas prices are lower than they would normally be, but they lie and say otherwise.
@miravlix9 күн бұрын
Does no one understand that falling inflation is pointless for anyone suffering under higher prices, in order for inflation reduction to matter, I need my income to raise faster than inflation. If I'm paid a wages that isn't going up and my next lollipop cost some cents more, what difference does it make for me that it was just a few cents instead of a handful of cents it rose in price, I'm still suffering from the broken economy. This was why american news has been broken under Biden as they keep saying the economy is better, but that is a lie, it's worse for 80%+ of the people, same issue in UK. Not until you find a way to shovel higher wages at workers, so they can buy two lollipops a month instead of the zero they buy now, the economy is not going to be better for the majority. It would be like we had 100 pound together, but only one of us has 100 pounds, how is that good for all of us without the 100 pounds? Unless you design the economy so if the country has 100 pounds more and paycheck people get the money, so they can be happy they can buy stuff and the rich people can be happy by earning the money by selling stuff, I don't see how UK and USA has any kind of real economy at the moment.

No offence to Grace - she's a bit good, eh? - or the as usual wonderful Coco and Nish, but 'Does it matter that Rishi is rich?'? Let me answer it like this: politics is about the distribution of power. Given corporations, according the the states, are people, and that money is free speech, money IS power. Given those givens, can you tell me how money and politics are different? It's like saying is an automotive vehicle with an engine and 4 wheels (etc etc) is related to cars? Is there-- it's a description of an f-ing car, you melted head! The Enlightenment philosopher David Hume said: 'Moral imagination diminishes with distance' This is why it matters. It's why capitalism creates ghettos, The rich don't need to see the poors and when they don't, they can be more at ease with the decisions those traitors make to hurt their fellow human. The rich, (for legal purposes) ... grumble grumble grumble. And to the tory voter that imagines breaking the statistical unlikelihood of ascending the tax brackets, the right are a top-down hierarchy crew, you don't get those where they fan out from anywhere but the top and you don't have the same support from institutions or connections at the top the way average ruling class people gunning for those spots do either. “It was miraculous. It was almost no trick at all, he saw, to turn vice into virtue and slander into truth, impotence into abstinence, arrogance into humility, plunder into philanthropy, thievery into honor, blasphemy into wisdom, brutality into patriotism, and sadism into justice. Anybody could do it; it required no brains at all. It merely required no character.” ― Joseph Heller, Catch-22 Given how much better (and characterless) you'd have to be than say Trump, a very average man, at anything to get to Trump's level... You. Are. Kidding. Yourself. If you were born without a home that has wings and a butler, and you vote tory you are betraying YOURSELF.
