This is a REVIEW of the Panasonic 24-105mm f4 Lens for the L-Mount Alliance and Panasonic S1 camera system. (Lumix S1H) . As i've said time and time again, glass, glass, glass, glass, glass. Glass is super important if you know what you're doing with it. This lens is "okay", it's not going to move the world but I was able to get very good results with it.

It’s actually an extremely close focusing macro lens too. Picked it up when I found out that the new 70-200 F2.8 doesn’t have OIS. Making this the better video lens.

What an unfortunate title... Panasonic 24-105 definitely does not suck! Yeah, it's a little expensive, because it's really damn good! Even the 20-60 kit lens is damn good! The Panasonic system is so underrated,don't know why... I've tried a lot of brands,including the overhyped Fuji and its lenses (even the most expensive ones). So far I have been most satisfied with Panasonic! I encourage everyone to give this brand a try! You will not be disappointed! 😉

This lens is good for hand-held filmmaking on the new Pana 'S' cameras. The autofocus is decent on the S1 and the dual stabilisation is great to have too. Handholding it is easy too, very light and the zoom and focus rings are buttery smooth. To finish, the hood is probably the easiest to fit hood I ever experienced. Great Vid Jarid, love those LR Presets!

Hey Jared, I’ve used a bunch of lenses and have noticed that even over the same focal range different lens designs have Different signatures. From an artistic point of view, i really like the signature of the 24-105 which reminds me a lot of my leica gear. I think for the price, it is actually cheap, if you’re looking for that look. If all you want is a focal range, cheap works. If you are looking for artistic expression, I think you need to look beyond just the specs and look at the images themselves.

Not a pro here, but I did some researches lately around the LLLLL MOUNT ALLIANNNCE (love it btw xD). It seems that the panasonic lens has built in image stabilizer, is weather sealed and has better/faster autofocus than Sigma lenses for the L-Mount. Can't tell the differences to the canon lenses though.

It may be fine together with the S1, but when using the S1R the 24-105 f4 is not able to handle the higher resolution. I also have a Sigma 24-104 f4 EF and using it on the S1R with the Sigma EF to LLLLLLLL mount adapter this lens is producing just sharper images once you crop in to the image . . . And I guess this is the reason why the Panasonic 24-105 f4 is not a "Pro" lens.

That is not the reason for the omission of 'pro' in the Lumix 24-70 f4, there are many other 'pro' labelled Lumix lenses testing with less resolution.

Both the S1 and the S1r are fantastic cameras but let’s be real. The only great thing about the L mount alliance is when Jared says it. It was a Rick James slap in the face to not allow af-c with an mc-21 adapter.

Hi Jared, sorry for being late to the party with this comment but I've recently bought a Panasonic S5II and so far have got an f.18 18mm, 50mm, 80mm, an f3.5-5.6 20-60mm and an f4.5-6.3 70-300mm for it but I am looking at this f4 24-105mm lens. It's currently at a not so expensive price on Amazon plus Panasonic are giving cash back after the purchase. It's still a tough choice to either buy this lens for around £900 (yes I'm from the UK) or just invest in another camera body with cheaper and more varied lens options such as maybe a Fuji X-S20. Which reminds me, what do you have against the "L-mound alliance"?

@@nocturnal1970 Nice choice and I'm sure you will be happy with it, I love mine. I did buy the 24-105 f4 and I find that is the lens which is on the camera most of the time and gives me the best working range for my photography. I have also bought the 18, 24, 35, 50 and 85 primes so have got the full set of f1.8 lumix primes apart from the recently released 100mm f2.8 macro. I have the 20-60 kit lens and the 70-300 f4.5-5.6 lumix lens so the only lens I'm still looking for is the Sigma 60-600mm f4.5-6.3 DG DN Sport but at £1,999 it's not a priority.

@@pipnmaz Thanks, I'm looking at the 60-600 also as well as 150-600 but I think the 60 has better AF motors and is slightly better optically again, but 2x the price of the 150-600! Also later looking at the new Sigma 14mm f1.4 for Milky Way nightscapes etc. However that is for later times and I'm really looking forward to the 85mm f1.8 as I've never had one of these. I'm coming from Pentax APSC so it's a huge jump in technology nevermind to full frame. I've done a lot of 35mm film photography and still have those, have all the darkroom equipment also. 😎

@@nocturnal1970 I came from a Canon Ixus 105 to a Lumix FZ330 bridge camera to dip my toe in, then to the S5II once I decided I would enjoy photography and wanted a little more flexibility and quality than the FZ330. The jump in features and quality for me was probably even bigger than for you and as I said I couldn't be happier with my choice of the Lumix S5II.

I already had several lenses costing £1000+ and still got my top Pentax F*300 f4.5 prime which has stellar optics to use with the S5ii, no AF with the S5ii but I'm used to MF and apparently the S5ii is excellent for MF.

I love my GH5, and want a S1... but it's all about the lenses. And they're just not there yet, either in variety or cost. Part of the appeal of MFT is the huge variety of native lenses, and the ability to adapt just about everything else. The L mount 180 degrees different. Oddly enough, Canon seems to be really upping their game regarding RF lenses and their nearly perfect EF adapter. Panny's efforts seem a bit lacklustre by comparison. That might be completely different story by the end of 2020, but right now it's a deal-breaker.

Not having a "pro" on it usually just means that it's not weather sealed and slightly less solidly built. The optics are usually pretty much the same. Totally agree on the vignette thing. It looks weird when you remove it in post.

I have owned the Panasonic S1 and this lens since a week or two after they both were released. To this day, the 24 to 105 is the only lands I own, but will likely trade it in for the 24 to 70 on day one. I have used this lens a lot for video and for a lot of outdoor sports like volleyball and baseball photography where I can go anywhere I want. I think the lenses great. However, now that it's getting closer to Winter we have transitioned to shooting more indoor sports, including bowling once. Not having f 2.8 was a real hardship in that situation because the lighting was so wildly inconsistent.

I would like to see some reviews on Rokinon lenses. I like their prices but not sure about the quality. I have two reasons to hesitate on shelling out big money on lenses. Hello Fro'. As you have used the new S1 and the new Sony mirrorless v3 here is my question. The Sony mirrorless are very well known to be prone to have loads of dust on the sensor pretty quickly. How does cope the L-mount counterpart in this regard ?

So they get dust? All cameras i've used get dust. You wont see dust at 2.8 or 5.6 for that matter. It's a non starter.
