Would love to share some pics of the browns and rainbows I’ve hooked using straight braid in fast clear water 😊 That said you’re totally right and my next trout rig will be spooled with mono or flouro.

I use braid for everything. You can't beat that high poundage line with thin diameter. That being said I use it just as my main line and I always use a mono or flouro leader. When I'm trout fishing and catfishing. Works best that way to me. Catfish don't care though like trout do. I have caught trout on braid but it's a challenge.

The line may or may not be better with either. I use high vis braid with a mono or fluoro leader, and have not determined which is best for catching. I have noticed the difference of catching with the presentation of the bait. I started trying a copolymer with fluorocarbon coated mono line as a leader. That line seems to not have as much memory, and catches just as many fish, and cost is between the other two. Try, try and try... Thanks for video.

Great video, though I have to disagree with the findings. I've been using Spiderwire Camo braid and Stealth braid (6 lb) for the past 10 years, for trout fishing, without using a leader. It's the only line I use and I don't have any issues catching fish at all. I use it in more shallow creeks and the deeper Cumberland river here in KY, and it's successful it both. There are certain situations where one type of line might be better than the other, depending on the water conditions, but they all work great. In this situation, you look to be fishing in clear, shallow water with no vegetation, with 20lb, dark green braided line, so it might not be ideal in this case. Too many variables in this test without enough constants, though I did really enjoy the video. Love all of your vids, I just subbed. :)

@NRVOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree. Braid to a leader is a solid way to reduce line twist. While spooling it helps to flip the spool back and forth from clockwise to counterclockwise every 15-20 handle rotations. This will reverse the twisting that takes place during this step. However a few retrieves with a spinning or flipping bait and the twists will return. Good luck & tight lines!

Mono was invented in 1939 and was the ONLY line used until Flouro became popular around 2000 when the newer versions became more fishable. So it obviously worked just fine for 60 years. Then braid came on the scene. I now fish nothing but braid. I use Ohero Advanced Braid in10 lb. test in the light green color. It has a line diameter of .012 which in equivalent to ONE lb. mono. I have 20-20 vision as does my wife and it is invisible to both of us in our swimming pool. Maybe if you did this comparison with a line test weight that any serious trout angler would use , your results would be much more accurate and believable Ask an experienced dry fly fisherman how many drifts they have to make at times to get a trout to take a dry fly, it could 30-40. All this stupid test proved is what all fisherman know, on any given day, trout which can be notoriously hard to catch are just that. Regardless of what what lure or line you use.

The key with Fluro is the knot. It’s not brittle and is actually very abrasion resistant. When tying with fluro you have to make sure to tie a very good knot and moisturize the line before finishing the knot. I don’t have anything against mono it has its uses but for me personally since switching to fluro I have never looked back. I do make sure to double check my knot I just tied however before beginning to fish. If it’s not a solid knot it can break very easy.

I used 8 to 10 pound mono for years and always managed to catch a limit of stocked trout...AS LONG AS it was within a couple days of them being stocked. The longer they were in the stream, the more "street wise" they became and often I could see fish in pools but not be able to catch them. I had also never hooked one of the big fish...the 8+ pound class, 26+ inch fish. I went down to 2 and 4# test and it was like flipping a switch. Suddenly I could fish those "fished out" holes and pull a limit out of them, and in less than a month, I have caught 2 rainbows over 8 lbs in the most heavily fished river in Tennessee. Previously in 30 years, I had never had a single one. Line diameter does matter...whether mono, or fluro. I think the strength of braid is by using it as a main line with a fluro leader. I find fluro to suck when spooled directly onto a spinning reel. Way too much memory. But used as a leader it does really well. I can now come up on those holes where I can see fish, and catch some of them if they haven't been spooked. My brother inlaw and I are planning a trip up to your area for some of those big rainbows. People think stocked pay streams are easy picking...but the fish in them get educated extremely fast when bombarded with lures/baits all day every day.
