Thank you for a very informative video. Currently I’m experiencing this very issue, high cholesterol low thyroid. I changed my eating to mostly plant based and limit the amount of meat I consume as well as eliminating refine sugar. After 6 mos of Levothyroxine my doctor has decided 25 mcg is right where I need to be. Chronic stress is still an issue for me mainly due to prolonged grief as my husband of 46 yrs passed away from stage 4 cancer 7 days before the Covid lockdown. Even though my thyroid is in a normal range I’m still exhausted throughout the day and rarely sleep through the night. I may consider a functional medicine approach after seeing this video.

Howdy, does xanthelasma enter into this conversation? Can it be an indicator of thyroid issues? Thanks
@DrKateLyzengaDean
@DrKateLyzengaDean Ай бұрын
It could be, indirectly! Typically I associate xanthelasma with insulin resistance, which can be linked to thyroid function

Does this include Grave’s disease? As I have had very high cholesterol for 30 years and was diagnosed for Graves for about 7 years and had my gallbladder out 50 years ago.

Grave's disease is the opposite - too much thyroid activity. I haven't studied the connection between hyperthyroid and cholesterol, so I can't speak to your situation.

Hi, Debpriti - sorry you're going through this. It sounds like these two issues are connected! If you haven't had a complete thyroid panel done, that would be the first step. Once you have this information, you can start to implement some strategies - I have a few more videos outlining some options for thyroid issues, and I also offer consultations (if you're feeling overwhelmed and don't know where to start). Hi doctor.. I have the doubt if serum cholesterol levels increased whether it causes by hyperthyroidism or diabetes which one the major cause

Am curious if cofactors(which?) could be causing the cholesterol to not be turned into hormones (DHEA,E,T low, prog ok). Also had a saliva cortisol which showed low am but the serum was barely high am, so body wasnt activating at a good circadian time? Good interesting info on this vid! Thanks. (TSH is 0.7-2.1, T3 in but low end, no ab,good Tryg & HDL). Read of T2 seems confusing.

The signaling cascade of hormone production is CRAZY complex, so cofactors could be an issue. Thanks for watching - and glad it was useful to you!

Most videos about the subject barely scratch hyperthyroidism. It s always about hypothyrodism. I dont have high colestherol but have gallbladder colestherol deposits and I got thinner over the years. I wonder if its connected in some way.

There's a fine line with Iodine - too little or too much can be problematic for the thyroid.

This sounds like me. I have high cholesterol and hardly eat much red meat or carbs. There is no reason that I should have high cholesterol. I have told my doctors for several years to gjve me a full thyroid panel. Well the couple of times that they have checked it all they only checked was the tsh. I have many symptoms of hypothyroidism. Really wish that they would listen and do a full thyroid panel. Almost positive this is what I have. My maternal grandmother and my dads sister both had hypothyroidism. Really wish they would take it into consideration since it runs in my family. I have many of the symptoms that my grandma did. I have joint aches that come and go and stiff tired muscles.

Almond milk is high in oxalates which may cause KIDNEY STONES!
@DrKateLyzengaDean
@DrKateLyzengaDean 6 ай бұрын
That is sometimes the case, but the point of this video is that swapping out high-cholesterol foods (for things like almond milk) to treat high cholesterol doesn't always address the root cause. It's not a recommendation to drink more almond milk 👍🏼
