Let’s talk about the #1 sign of iodine overload or toxicity. Iodine is a trace mineral, which means you only need it in trace amounts.
You only need about 150 to 200 micrograms of iodine daily. Iodine deficiency is more common than iodine overload, but you should be aware of certain things that could happen if you take too much.
Signs of iodine overload:
1. Energy that prevents sleep
2. Fast pulse rate
3. Atrial fibrillation
4. Heat intolerance
5. Diarrhea
6. Weight loss
7. Hand tremors
8. Temperature increase
9. Bone loss
10. Loss of menstrual cycle
11. Excessive sweating
12. Thyroid storm
If you have symptoms of too much iodine, it is essential to identify where it’s coming from and eliminate excess iodine from your diet.
Iodine overload could be caused by consuming an excess of certain things, including:
• Sea kelp or seaweed
• Iodized salt
• Seafood
• A combination of supplements (check your supplement labels and find out how much iodine you’re really getting)
• Bakery goods
Try a urine test to find out if you have iodine overload.

I was on synthetic thyroid medication for 25 years. After seeing an interview with Dr. Brownstein and reading his book on iodine, I started supplementing with 25mg of iodine, then went off medication. After 3 months, my thyroid output of T3 and T4 were back in the normal range. I asked my doctor why they didn't recommend testing for iodine deficiency or using iodine supplementation before putting people on synthetic thyroid hormone. He smiled and said it was a good question.

I'm going to have to stick with Dr. David Brownstein's advice on this issue. 150 mcg of Iodine was never determined to be an optimal amount to take... rather, it was determined to be the *minimum* amount to reduce the incidence of goiters in the central US when that was a huge problem. These days we have *unlabeled* bromine added to flour products, bromine used in car upholstery, carpeting, furniture, bedding and more products. Bromine also blocks iodine receptors... so if 150 mcg of Iodine was barely acceptable back then, the need for it can only be greater these days. Lugol figured all of this out in the early 1800s.

I agree! After reading Dr. Brownstein's book, I started taking 25 mg of iodine/iodide (RLC Labs iThroid capsules twice per day) a few months ago. My body temperature increased from the upper 96 F level to the mid/upper 98 F level, and I've been able to stop taking my thyroid medication (levothyroxine) after being on it for over 10 years. My most recent labs showed that my free T3 and T4 hormones are in the normal range, my body temerature has consistently stayed in the upper normal range, and I feel great overall (I also take daily: selenium, magnesium, vitamin C, D-3, zinc, and use Real Salt liberally)! The notion of iodine toxicity is seriously overhyped - anyone with normally functioning kidneys will simply excrete any excess iodine that the cells of your body cannot utilize.

Taking six drops of iodine in water for a period of six weeks along with selenium helped me reverse my reynaulds syndrome. Iodine is essential for anyone with or without a thyroid. While six drops in water is considered a high dose, it's worth considering that doctors used to prescribe iodine in much higher doses before the pharmaceutical industry intervened.

Dr David Brownstein in his book “Iodine: Why You Need It, Why You Can’t Live Without It” talks about the side effects as being a result of bromine being released from receptor sites that iodine competes for. Bromide/bromide being added to things like bread to preserve it. Also used as an alternative to chlorine in pools. The bromine being released has to happen at a gradual and slow rate as it can create a crisis. If what Dr Berg said here was true, a good majority of the Japanese population would be suffering from too much Iodine. Is that true? It seems that their health is optimal compared to Americans. They typically eat a diet high in fish and seaweed.

@MrBrianDuga, the recipe listed below in this comment is the one on how to help with bromide detoxing. ( removing the bromide is so important, and it takes a while to clear the body of bromide rashes and bromide acne and bromide smell as it is released. Bromide translates to the word stench. These things show the bromide clearing. The recipe below also helps with fatigue and low mood while detoxing.) Use the recipe below to clear bromide so then the iodine can rightly go to that receptor that the bromide was occupying wrongly. Once bromide is detached from the receptor, iodine takes back its own receptor back and also chases after the bromide untill it clears out of our system through urination and sweating etc.) Recipe, to detox the bromide; drink a solution of salt, brand name, 'Real Salt' 1/4 teaspoon, with 1/2 cup filtered water, immediately following that, drink 12oz. to 16oz. of filtered water. This helps clear our bodies of bromide and it's detox symptoms. It can be used often. Salt water also helps to detox the fluoride, which needs to be released from the chloride receptor. This process allows the salt(sodium chloride) chloride can then reclaim the receptor the fluoride was blocking. We need salt for many things, we need iodine for many things. Iodine and salt help with clearing the breasts of dense fibroid tissue condition. This healing of the breast tissue seems miraculous to me, as the tissue then feels truly soft, wonderful and the breast discomfort is gone.

Well, we got to find out why some taking iodine supplements or living in an iodine rich country like Japan, are experiencing hyperthyroid issues like heat intolerance and palpitations, etc, but medical tests show normal. But the hyperthyroid symptoms only come with increase of iodine in some form. Maybe a co-factor nutrient like selenium is missing? Testing selenium (while decreasing iodine-rich seafood and seaweed in Japanese meals) so too early for me to say. Re: Doctors say no long subclinical hypothyroid but normal. Also at menopause which for some seem to bring these thyroid swings BUT for sure it seems linked with increased iodine.

I developed a severe case of sleep deprivation, like down to 2 to 3 hours a night. In 2008, I went to a naturopath in LA, and through kinesiology, he said I needed iodine. Just that night, I slept 6 hours straight from being exposed to the iodine in his test. That's the first time I'd had that much sleep in years. I've been taking liquid iodine ever since. The bottle says 2 drops are a normal dose and 226mcg. I've always taken 6 drops daily. I have goiter from malnutrition as a child in Europe. Goiter is why they put iodine in table salt. @@wernerdanler2742 it works for me. If you read dr Brownstein’s: Iodine, Why You Need It… and Linda Farrow’s The Iodine crisis, you’ll see that many people take much more than that. Your body eliminates what it can’t use. But if it needs it, then not taking enough doesn’t help. It can take very high doses to dislodge the Bromine and fluoride that are attached to the Iodine receptor and make room for the iodine to bind. So if you are taking a small amount, then the iodine probably can’t even get to the receptors.

Some wonder why this country has fallen so far, start with the FDA and CDC, and you might have a clue if we survive the coming Winter. Sodium Iodide was at one time used for infections, now it's reserved for our pets. The Only problem with the Iodine halogen might be its efficacy, and concentrations. Better to wait for the Iodine to purify the water or heat it instead of Chlorine. Initially their reasoning was the lighter atom traveled through some of the waterborne parasitic cyst shells quicker.

Apparently the average person in Japan eats 10,000 to 15,000mcg daily so I HIGHLY doubt you taking that miniscule amount would be doing anything negative. I will be taking at least 3000mcg daily from now on too see how that goes. Michael Friëdman, ND: So what would your protocol be if someone was low on iodine? Thyroid Expert David Brownstein, MD: Generally, I start most patients with 25,000 mcg a day and adjust it as needed. If they have endocrine disease, such as breast, prostate, pancreas, or thyroid, sometimes I’ll start with more. MF: And when you’re giving 25 mg a day, how do you assess when to stop? DB: Well, we need iodine on a daily basis. The body doesn’t have much of iodine stored, so if you stop taking it, you’ll go back to deficiency stage very quickly. MF: So most of your patients on it are on indefinitely, then? DB: Yes, most are on 25 mg, I would say, in my practice.

THANK YOU! I have a history of subclinical hyperthyroidism. I feel like people just blindly promote consuming an abundance of iodine without considering consequences as they relate to hyperthyroidism. I also feel like hypothyroid issues seem to get much more attention, and people always think that hypo is the only thyroid problem a person can have. I tell you firsts hand, hyperthyroid symptoms are awful. And all the iodine the internet promotes did me a huge disservice. **EDIT** I want to add, I am at this point very close to the normal range of thyroid function. My last test had me off by just a couple of points on the decimal end, not the whole number. I don't have severe symptoms at this time, I was just sharing. I appreciate all of the shared experiences and recommendations in comments. I feel like there is a lot of valuable information we can derive from one another.

I was diagnosed with the nodule it was very large and it was on my thyroid and I it was by way of MRI and blood work revealed that my t4 wasn't converting to t3 so you have to I don't recommend you just take a bunch of iodine 50 mg if you don't have a problem or if you're not diagnosed these blood tests and MRIs are really important that's why I feel that I attacked it before waiting for another test from the doctor who didn't know how much conventional medicine to give me in the first place and I was not going to suffer another day so I took iodine this happened to me once before about 20 years ago when I had a toxicity problem and all I knew is iodine I didn't know medicine existed and it took care of the problem until this time which was also a toxicity problem I was trying to cure something else and against my better judgment I took the some conventional medicine maybe overdid it and this is the result my poor thyroid so get your blood work done and MRI is great and ultrasound is better and feel for these things just like breast cancer you could feel it but sometimes you can't until boom all of a sudden it pops out of your neck and you feel pain and swelling and your voice changes these are all signs your body talks to you like Dr Berg says listen to it

When a person starts on iodine they begin to remove toxins from the cells into the bloodstream and if this is faster than the kidneys can remove those toxins they can cause unwanted symptoms so if that happens it is better to reduce the dose and then pulse start slowly increasing. 200mcg BTW could hardly do much at all! But iodine itself certainly wouldn't produce those symptoms. Every cell in the body needs iodine and vitamin D.

Oh my goodness! Are you reading my mind!??!! As I have commented a few times on how I'm banging my head against a wall, with getting my regular small town primary care doctor to understand what's going on with my mess of a metabolism, trying to get them to understand how all these things are connected and can affect the other when dealing with IR, hypothyroid, diabetes(borderline)... I finally got them to at least look at the conversion issue from T4 to T3... instead of just throwing more synthroid and iodine at it. Your info here in this video might just get them to stop and think. Using Tudca has already helped on so many levels it amazed them but now, that my bile situation is better and my liver is functioning better, still such a complicated balance to get thyroid hormones in check. They always just want to throw one thing at it, and I keep saying it's got to be more than that. Thank You for this info and explaining how tricky it can all be. It's not just about high TSH.

Sounds more like hyperthyroidism symptoms than iodine toxicity. My understanding is your body takes what it needs and the rest is excreted. A lot of organs in the body use iodine, not just the thyroid. That RDA is mainly related to thyroid , not with regards to how much the BODY needs or uses. Perhaps you need to do a little more research? Granted you need selenium whether you have a lot iodine intake or not. T Hashimoto can also occur without high iodine intake. It’s an autoimmune condition

I also make sure to get selenium and the substances required to make glutathione and have done that for more then thirty years. So 'too much' iodine must depend on factors other than simply eating a lot of iodine. (Before ten years ago, I got about 3 milligrams of iodine every day starting in the early 1980s.) I have continued taking the higher dose because the effect it has on my health is unambiguously good.

I have numerous overlapping autoimmune health challenges, including genetic EDS. I also have Hashimotos Thyroiditis. In 2009, I had a thyroid storm that almost killed me. It wasn't due to iodine. Rather, my immune system briefly stopped attacking my thyroid and unbeknownst to me, started working on it's own. Meaning without me knowing it, my thyroid meds were then too high a dose, and actually became an overdose. Very scary. Had a cardioversion, but have had AFib/heart issues ever since.

I have Grave's Disease and now as I age, it seems I have the low thyroid problems more often. It's difficult to balance, and all my doctors ever did was make things worse. Gotta listen to your body and write these symptoms down, even then... loss of sleep, dry skin or moist skin, etc., and I never take one supplement every day. I skip around and seem to do better that way. I do like this advice from Dr. Berg.

Sea kelp tablets are invaluable in managing the female cycle well without excruciating pain and the need for painkillers, and yet once these symptoms start to pop up, it is scary to keep taking them, so the question is, what to do so as to get it right and not risk long term issues one way or the other. Potassium bromate has been put in bread for 90 or more years. I'm not sure if it still is, but the body sees bromides as invaders, and bromine is in the same chemical family as iodine. It stands to reason that breads may have caused autoimmune reactions in many of us who were once commercial bread eaters. Our bodies could very well be attacking iodine, confusing it with bromine. Fortunately, my hypothyroidism is very mild.

The surgeon tried to remove his thyroid and couldn’t because it’s so enlarged it’s going down into his sternum. He will be seeing a thyroid surgeon in December at U of M medical center. I was wondering if you feel getting the thyroid removed is a good thing.

Try taking high doses of sea weed and high dose of b vitamins and electrolytes with no carbohydrates. For few months. Don't get thyroid removed . God bless.

I strongly suggest you check his videos on each of the subjects you mention: kidneys, kidney dialysis, kidneys failure, the thyroid, surgery, ect. He made videos on each. And you are right, it’s all connected ❤

Hi I have Graves Disease too. Do you know how much iodine you consume in your regular diet?
@Vixinaful
@Vixinaful Жыл бұрын
@@Charlie_Ses Yes, none. I've reduced it in my salt so there should be only small small amounts left since iodine triggers Graves. I also dont eat dairy or gluten.

@@Vixinaful Ok thanks, that's good to hear. I just reduced my iodine intake in my diet after 8 years of having an overactive thyroid, and my blood results have improve massively. It's incredible that diet can play such a big part in thyroid health. Good luck.

Doctor Berg, I am willing to try a keto diet to improve my health, but I have a condition of multiple polyps in my gallbladder - it's been years that we keep monitoring them with ultrasonography, they are not growing. Are there any restrictions in this case?
