It doesn't break the mold; it's trying to perfect it. A lot of good design solutions that could improve Persona, and JRPGs in general, seem to be attempted all at once in Metaphor.

Im only playing this cause its going for more smt like with that classic press turn system. Especially also because its also using digital devil saga's mantra system that refantazio uses for its archetype system.

Man I thought it was just me. I did not vibe with Metaphor at all. Just felt waaay to familiar. Especially because I've been playing so many Atlus games back to back. I'm glad they dropped such a healthy demo. I was able to decide that I will definitely pass on this

From my perspective I never had the impression Atlus was attempting to "break the mold" with Re:Fantasy. What I always had in mind for my dream Atlus fantasy game back when it was announced was a Fantasy game with P5-level (stylish and visually pleasing) visuals with Press-turn combat and epic music, I guess I'm simple in that manner. It doesn't help that their original elevator pitch to the fans was "This isn't Persona, This isn't Megaten, This is Re:Fantasy" which isn't 100% accurate but I can see what they mean in that it's not a modern setting at all and isn't supposed to be. Saying Metaphor is too similar to Persona would be like saying that Fallout 3 is too similar to Elder Scrolls Oblivion which is accurate but not really too correct in the end when you weigh the facts about the two games even though they share a large amount of mechanics. Also the fact that they've rebranded this as an Atlus 35th entry makes it much more likely they are going to pay homage to what made them famous in an entirely new setting for them. These are just a few of my justifications for as to why I enjoy the everloving mess out of this game so far. Thanks for the video though, I always appreciate different perspectives.

This is like a problem of new persona fans or something, even though i do agree that it is not as good as p5, because yeah p5 is like the best of what Atlus could ever made. But you have to see this game like a different thing, and that what the developers trying to do as well. Just forget about persona for a little bit. This game still did many things way better than persona 5, like the combat for example. I do hope that you keep this in mind and give the game another chance.

Don’t you think it’s a little early to say it’s not as good as p5

And imagine about how you can play many hand made dungeon layout for the ENTIRE GAME, not random generated one like Mementos and Tartarus

Metaphor is literally better than P5, from the beginning P5 combat was not the strongest aspect, but social elements and style (plus if you want to argue a better story than most SMT games sure). They took the very best of every game they've made and put it in metaphor, persona social links? in. SMT V combat system (press turns and double kaja/kundas)? in DDS character progression style system? in they somehow combined alcohol, oil and water and made some miraculous panacea. Metaphor is literally Atlus' magnum opus and probably will surpass P5 sales at one point and set itself as the best JRPG of all time (yes I'm meat riding the game after sinking 30 hours at the demo)

@@qtiphead3328 i agree, but p5 prologues is still something that is hard to surpass and the demo is still cant compare. But i still believe the game do have a big potential to surpass p5

It's funny because I never understood why so many people love persona so much, but I absolutely love Metaphor. Every time I've played a Persona game, I've always found myself struggling to stick with it. I can tell they are very high quality, but it's like eating an amazing meal that just isn't your taste. I think it's always been the high school setting and creature collector aspects that turned me off. Metaphor though, it takes everything I liked about the persona series and gets rid of what I didnt like. So for me, I'm way more hyped for this than I would be another persona game.
@chroniclesofash78912 күн бұрын
@@Creslin321 I think what you’ve said is the case for a lot of people, but I’m the opposite with metaphor. Metaphor is high quality, but it’s hard for me to relate to it or enjoy it as much as persona. (Persona also isn’t perfect either, I have issues with it too). Like I said, I don’t think it’s bad I think it’s just not for me, and I’m glad that so many other people are enjoying it. I just wanted to present a different perspective.

I'm glad to see my decision to use the Japanese audio was the right one. I actually restarted FF after the first few voice line because I hated the Englishness of it. While both games are riffing more on European fantasy than Japanese, there's no reason to default to every fantasy cliche with the voice acting. The Japanese audio at least gives it a different flavor.
@DavidHosey1Күн бұрын
Just because people have a British accent doesn’t mean it’s a fantasy cliche, and besides the voice acting is phenomenal in Metaphor. Look at Strohl’s awakening in English, legit amazing

After finishing the demo about an hour ago, came to youtube checking if anyone had the same problems or atleast a similar experience to mine with the game, considering so far the majority of the people that played it had a blast, and here I found a video that summarizes my thoughts exactly. Feeling validated, lol. Great editing and humour, deserves more recognition!

I enjoyed the demo a lot. I felt like having a much larger map than any persona game is a huge advantage. Just imagine moving to totally different town, having totally different daily activities there. You also unlock totally new areas for SIDEQUESTS. Where have you seen sidequest dungeons? That's a lot of work for a sidequest man... Metaphor is shaping up to be one of the best games atlus ever made imo.
