Can you do a video on how to take care of curly hair for swimmers? And what products to use?
@curlymckee41255 жыл бұрын
Hi Hannah! A couple things I do when my daughter goes swimming is make sure to load up on leave in before she goes in the pool (if her hair is full of conditioner and moisture, it won't absorb as much chlorine) and I also make sure to use ACV more frequently to rid her scalp of the chemicals. Hope this helps a little bit!
@paulawilson54725 жыл бұрын
Wet your hair with a hose, sink, spray bottle... whatever before swimming. Also I put straight conditioner in my hair when swimming too...not as much when I bathe but you want your hair not sucking up the chlorine or chemicals in the pool. You also want protection from the sun! Why not deep condition while swimming?

As a fellow swimmer(i Swim 6 days a week) what helped me most was when I shower I still use shampoo( just sulfate free) and conditioner. However, I don’t wash all of the conditioner out and I use a leave in conditioner and argon oil. The conditioner provides the moisture and the oil locks it in and makes a barrier to the chlorine. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for the awesome and educational videos. I am trying to embrace my curls but this hair care thing is all science. I’m wash and go now that I am doing the curly girl thing instead of straightening my hair at 425 degrees without a heat protectant…I know, amazing I still have hair. I think was has helped though is it don’t colour or chemically treat it. My hair was looking great, i was cowashing with conditioner & plopping overnight (I’m not anymore after I read why plopping more than 45 minutes can cause many different types of fungi 🤢). This video has helped me to determine that, although my hair is not breaking, there is no bounce or elasticity in it so moisture is the prescription. Will try to cowash a few times a week to see if it improves. Thanks again for all your help & virtual advice, love the content not only is it informative but entertaining. If you ever decide to do a pop-up salon in Ottawa, give me a heads up. 😉

What is moisture and what is protein?? Is regular leave in moisture? Deep conditioning protein?
@ManesByMell6 жыл бұрын
Hey Tammy good question, so protein and moisture are two deferent components our hair needs to look feel and be healthy, and they both come in several different forms ie. conditioner, leave in, DC, etc. Typically, anything that says "moisturizing, hydrating, softening" are moisture. Protein is described as "strengthening, fortifying, keratin" Hope that clears things up for you!

Too much moisture can actually make your hair porous and appear dry too. This is more so a long term affect though. If your hair has turned dry overnight you probably need more moisture but if your hair has been dry for months and you've tried many different moisturizng conditioners you probably need more protein.

What she described on the hair strand is how my hair is feeling today. Moral of the story, don't do treatments unless your hair tells you it's needed.

Is it possible that only one part of your hair has an imbalance in protein and moisture? Or would that be just a different curl pattern?

Can you recommend which products are good for moisturizing the hair? I’m having a hard time finding products that are protein-free.

Is it possible for hair to need both protein and moisture, or is always going to have more of one if the other is lacking??? 🤔

I looked thru my conditioners and just realized they are mostly protein based. Any recommendations for moisturizing conditioners/masks?

Lisa Rivera I’m late. But the Shea Moisture Intensive Hydration Hair Masque is amazing. It gives my hair a lot of moisture.

What I’m asking is if my hair has too much moisture then I need to use a protein treatment to balance but my question is do I need to use a clarifying shampoo on my hair 1st and then use the protein treatment? So that the clarifying shampoo will strip all the products from my hair even the moisture? So when I get done with clarifying shampoo I then add moisture and protein?? Idk I’m asking what do I do what steps do I do these in ?

Ok. I need all the help I can get. I have extremely thick medium long wavy hair. They are very dry, frizzy, brake none stop split and so on. I wash my hair once a week. I don’t use any heat tools. I can’t have tried everything and anything to grow my hair but they don’t grow past my boob area because of the breakage. I just literally got them chopped off 4 inches 3weeks ago and I can see all the breakage. My hair gets sooooo tangled that it takes me hours to get them brushed out even in a shower each time I have to spend an hour to 1,5h to get them detangled with a deep conditioning masque. I seriously don’t know what else to do I am about to chop them all off no joke. I have tried so many products and whatnot to get them soft, silky, shinny, healthy and long but that just never happens. They are still super dry after each wash.

Hey mell, would u pls consider doing a video about hygral fatigue specifically? Or spill me some advice about it :) For example; after washing my hair I can't figure out if i need to put a 'protective' kind of styler in it, or just.. nothing. Currently im already in this stage for 2 months.

So maybe I should rotate between a moisturizing conditioner when hair feels hard + brittle and a protein conditioner when too flat + frizzy + soft..😬

Protein/Moisture DISASTER on super fine hair. I'm struggling bug time because of my baby fine type. Even Protein treatments leave my hair limp and soft. Moisturizing? Bye bye curls, even more. Leave ins seem to weigh down. I just limped my curls using a protein reconstructive (curl junky rehab). Can I use oil overnight and then follow with like a diy Gelatin+Amino Peptides DIY? What do I do with my overmoisturized curls since protein tx moisturize too? If your hair isn't healthy to begin with.. how to judge what to do?

But do you need to use a clarifying shampoo 1st ? Before using a protein treatment if you hair is over moisturized? Or can I just use a protein treatment in my hair without using the clarifying shampoo 1st ?

My hair has been really stringy lately and lacking definition. I’ve been doing deep conditioners, but should I be doing a protein treatment to get it to bounce back?

How do I add moisture without proteins, I look up moisturizing mask but they all include coconut or oils. Don’t those contain proteins and can instead overload my hair with proteins? How do I just add moisture? What products can do that? Thanks!

Hi Mel! I have been binge watching all of your videos.... 8 have fine very dry 3a curls (I think) lol... What shampoo and conditioner do you recommend.. I live in Vegas so it's very dry and even though it's winter here it's about 60°... Also one more question. Am I supposed to condition before I deep condition every week? Or do I just shampoo and DEEP Condition?

Hi Mel! I’m in the process of going super blonde and am currently using Paul Michelle ‘s tea tree special color shampoo because it’s for color treated hair and because my scalp loves tea tree. My hair colorist has been using the Olaplex line every coloring treatment, which I’ve read is the best for color treating hair. My question to you is, do you know anything about Olaplex? I’m wondering if it would be better for me to use their line when I’m away from the hairdresser as well, or if I should continue to do what’s been working good for my hair. I’m always looking to improve my hair regimen, if there’s a possibility of there being a better way of doing things. Also, I haven’t ever tried purple shampoos before because I’ve never gone as blonde as I am now. (As far as I can tell, Olaplex doesn’t have a purple shampoo) Is that something you’ve tried and do for your hair and would you recommend purple shampoos over others when it comes to being platinum or close to platinum blonde?

I have a 9 month old baby girl who has type 3 something (not sure) hair. I, myself, have straight hair so I don’t know what to do for her hair :/ the problem with her hair is it’s frizzy and lacking definition. I bought aunt Jackie’s custard which gives her hair definition but as soon as I wash it out there it goes being frizzy again. Am I doing something wrong? I shampoo and condition once a week and co wash once a week

And what about using products according to the dew point on the given day? I read a couple of articles on that and I'm curious about your opinion! It's this whole shabang with emollients, moisturizers etc., it confuses me to no end :D I'm a 2A/2B kinda girl, currently fighting for my curls on totally virgin hair (haven't dyed it for four full years!).
