Does Nectar Credit Card from Amex make any sense?

My understanding from other sources is, the nectar card is good for the first AMEX card. As you can get this welcome bonus, then get the BA or regular AMEX card bonuses.

That's partially true. After you get a welcome bonus on the Nectar card, you can still be eligible for the bonuses on the BA Premium Plus (but not the free BA card) and the Amex Platinum. In any case, thanks for the valuable observation. I'll pin this comment so that more people see it

With the Chase card, once the 12 months are up, you can still get the 1% cashback, as long as you meet their requirements. At the time of writing, you need to deposit £1500 each month into either the current account or the saving account. Once you qualify you can move the money away.

Thank you! If you're planning to cancel the Gold card, you have a couple of options: 1. Transfer your Amex points -> Avios -> Nectar, that way you'll end up with 26000 nectar points (worth £130) 2. Downgrade your Gold card to the free Amex Rewards card which will allow you to keep the 20k points without paying any annual fees and decide later what you want to do with them. There's no option where you transfer your points to the Amex Nectar card, you just transfer them directly to your Nectar account instead.

Are the bonus 20000 points (for £2000 spend in first 3 months) in addition to the standard 2 points per £1 spend? In other words, you'd accrue 20000 + 4000 = 24000 nectar points after 3 months, if you spent £2000?

Yes, the welcome bonus is in addition to the ongoing earning rate. However, iirc, you earn 1 point / £ on that card, not 2

You get the nectar points for any purchases anywhere. And then you can use those points to get money off when shopping at Nectar partners
