At 53, I’ve gained more muscle than I ever thought I could. Protein is the game changer. I feel much better now that I consistently hit my protein goal.

I’ve never believed the protein myth. I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s in a farming community where we all ate meat and eggs at every meal. Almost all of the farm kids were taller, healthier and stronger than the kids from town who ate more processed foods. I’m 53 now and started eating more protein again and lost 60 pounds. Lately my waistline has been getting smaller but my shirts are getting tighter in the shoulders. Hit your protein target and everything else improves

As in earlier studies (10-12), vegetarians in the AHS-2 have lower BMI values. Among 60,903 participants, crude mean baseline BMIs (in kg/m2) were 23.6 for vegans, 25.7 for lactoovovegetarians, 26.3 for pescovegetarians, 27.3 for semivegetarians, and 28.8 for nonvegetarians (4). After adjustment for age, sex, and race, mean BMIs were 24.1 for vegans, 26.1 for lactoovovegetarians, 26.0 for pescovegetarians, 27.3 for semivegetarians, and 28.3 for nonvegetarians among 73,308 participants (2). www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4144107/ your anecdote simply isnt supported by population data. obviously what you mean by "protein" is animal products like they do. the less animal products the thinner, healthier and longer living the population. you also present a false choice; that you can eat either animal products or processed food. if you have lost 60 pounds, it may be from watching your caloric intake, exercise, time restricted eating, etc. but it is obviously not from eating fattening animal products.
@thebluewormbin34443 ай бұрын
@@mysticjedi6730 animal protein is very satiating, I eat all I want without any real regard for calorie intake. It’s difficult for me to reach 1 gram/pound of desired bodyweight of protein and get more than 1500 calories anyway. BMI is probably the most worthless metric of health. It doesn’t take into account the ratio of lean mass versus fat. If for example a vegan has extremely low muscle mass he/she will have a low BMI but will be far less healthy than someone with a high amount of muscle mass of the same height who has a higher BMI. I didn’t present a choice between animal protein and processed foods, I chose to eliminate processed foods. If you dig deep enough most nutrition science is funded by processed food companies or those with an agenda so you completely wasted your link

@@thebluewormbin3444 the china study, the Adventist health studies, the Oxford epic study, etc... Mean BMI was lowest in vegans (23.6 kg/m2) and incrementally higher in lacto-ovo vegetarians (25.7 kg/m2), pesco-vegetarians (26.3 kg/m2), semi-vegetarians (27.3 kg/m2), and nonvegetarians (28.8 kg/m2). Prevalence of type 2 diabetes increased from 2.9% in vegans to 7.6% in nonvegetarians; the prevalence was intermediate in participants consuming lacto-ovo (3.2%), pesco (4.8%), or semi-vegetarian (6.1%) diets. After adjustment for age, sex, ethnicity, education, income, physical activity, television watching, sleep habits, alcohol use, and BMI, vegans (OR 0.51 [95% CI 0.40-0.66]), lacto-ovo vegetarians (0.54 [0.49-0.60]), pesco-vegetarians (0.70 [0.61-0.80]), and semi-vegetarians (0.76 [0.65-0.90]) had a lower risk of type 2 diabetes than nonvegetarians. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2671114/ Anyone with half a brain realized the average meat eater is obese body mass index due to higher body fat percentage. Clearly you are not so stupid to really think the higher body mass index is from muscle mass? Yes you have to take into account all evidence. And it conclusively demonstrates the less animal products the thinner, healthier longer living the population. We learn from the free exchange of ideas. I learned the truth from others pointing me in the direction of the truth. So no, I don't think attaching a link was not worth it. It may help someone realize the truth.

Building muscle isn’t only about protein synthesis , but it’s the net effect of protein synthesis and protein breakdown. The myth I think came from when they used stable isotope tracers to see how much of a bolus of protein was used for protein synthesis - some studies shows there was a limit (but even that has been challenged ) But building muscle is more than protein synthesis , it is the net effect of protein synthesis and protein breakdown. We always knew that even given the supposed limit to protein usage per meal that people who ate more protein in general put on more muscle. This means that consuming a lot of protein in one meal could both increase protein synthesis AND slow protein breakdown (which is harder to track in studies ).

Not only the diet affects the teeth development but interbreeding does that too where you can have one genetic for the jaw and another for the teeth, so that can cause the weird development of teeth. Which also explains why when meeting hunter gatherers type tribes their teeth are perfect.
