I would like to see you talking about the growth factors and stem cells in skincare products because not all of them are created equal. They can come from different sources and I think it is confusing for people. It is kind of same situation like this video with “bio retinol”. Thanks for sharing!🙂

It would be interesting to hear her opinion considering dermatologist Stefani Kappel advises against them. She's been working with skin cancer patients and says the growth factors also grow cancer cells and therefore she can not recommend them.

I don’t wanna blame anyone and I realize it’s more of a me problem, but tbh I have to admit, that by now words like “eco”, “bio”, “natural”, etc on the package of anything is suuuuuch a turn off for me that I won’t even care to check the ingredients (and potentially miss a dream product maybe). I generally never been a person who’s like “omg that’s natural so it must be good”, more like other way around, but by 2024 this bio-hysteria and cringe marketing went so far that now all these “natural” phrases are automatically a sign of deceit for me.

I would love a video on retinol and retinal recommendations based on trust in the company and formulation ( how much research / clinical trials were done and how controlled were those clinical trials). We have such an oversaturation of products in the beauty industry. How do we know which to pick for the best results when it comes to long-term use if you can't tolerate perscription strength. Thank you for your content. Love your channel!!

You have NO IDEA how much my skin has improved after I started following your advice! I am a 40 year old dietitian haha I live in Florida where we get so much sunshine!!!!! I used to wash my face with whatever soap I had in the shower, moisturize with whatever body lotion I had haha and never wore sunscreen on my face, only when I went to the beach. Now, I used my Cerave cleanser and moisturizer, 0.05 tretinoin, Cerave tinted sunscreen, vitamin C... even Amlactin on my body and wow the change has been amazing! Thank you for all you share!!! Hey 😁 I am not a lawyer yet but I am in my last year of law school, the "bio-retinoid" although is trademarked by that specific company, it may have become a generic name if its widely used by consumers to refer to a type of product rather than the brand. Therefore, it might become challenging for the original trademark holder to enforce exclusivity. Or they may have a licensing agreements which the trademark owner might have an agreement with other companies... (this is not a legal advise ;) lol

Good morning! I like watching your videos primarily to learn about various skin concerns, but I also really like hearing about the regulatory labyrinth of what companies are allowed to say about a particular thing. I sometimes work on recipe and food product development as part of my job and its very interesting to see the parallels between the two industries, and how much of the burden of research and testing is tied not to the properties of the ingredients themselves, but just to what kinds of CLAIMS you want to make about them. Wild stuff! Anyway thanks for another great video.

Why wash your face with Head and Shoulders?
@anniezion
@anniezion 6 ай бұрын
@@courtneybrock3049 I can confirm that it works, I do it too. It's an antidandruff (dandruff is caused by eczema or fungus issues) The schampo used on face, helps against the irritation from Rosacea or other such conditions caused by similar reasons as the dandruff. I get the rashes & spots occasionally,(after using retinol and skin gets a bit upset) whether it's Rosacea or dermatitis, I am not sure, but when I use Head & shoulders, it goes away.

Nice you finally corrected this. I was actually shocked you used to spread that Bakuchiol as a retinoid alternative. You also used to recommend retinol esters as gentler form. Esters are not capable of converting to the active form: retinoic acid (though they can act as antioxidant). Please be clearer about this next time.

I’ve recently subscribed to ‘Dermatica’ for tretinoin. I’m 47yrs old & my concerns are hyperpigmentation/few age spots appearing and an increase of wrinkles(which of course is only natural for my age 😬) I’m quite an expressive person with my facial expressions & I am quite self conscious of this, as they are not the most flattering 🤦🏻‍♀️) Anyway I guess I should get to the point 😂 I’m trying to take my skincare more seriously as I am middle aged now & I take bovine collagen, aswell as look after myself diet wise. My question is regarding hormonal health the depletion of certain hormones and how this may affect the process of aging. Is it pointless until I sort my hormonal balance out using tretinoin? Also, whilst using it, can I use skincare during the day with Vit C ? (I was looking at the Medik8 tetra C) Or is it just a case of keeping to products that hydrate my skin/SPF during the day?

I actually use it and I love it. It was not misleading to me that that's not an actual retinol ingrediënt, and it took me a while to dead through of course (they say "plant-based complex as an alternative to retinol"). But it is made with Bidens pilosa (same as Ren from the video). They had some dermatologycal studies done themselves but I hope there will be more long run clinical studies in the future with more companies exploring that area.

Dr. Idriss, what are your thoughts on using urea on mildly rosacea skin? Is 15% too strong? I handle retinol/retinol, exfoliating acids just fine. I avoid tret/adapalene because I fear it would be too harsh with my baseline redness. I recently ordered the transparent labs urea 15% serum but after some research I’m seeing some claims to avoid urea if you have rosacea? Would really appreciate your input!

Hi, so I have a few questions. First of all, I LOVE your content and what you're doing for skincare awareness. Based on what I learned from you, I incorporated some new active ingredients in my routine and I try to go slow on them. However, after time I see that my skin doesn't really want to absorb the products, my face is sticky and it takes hours for the products to sink in. So I must be doing something wrong :) Now I wonder: 1) in the morning I'm using Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate in something that is called oil serum. Does it lower the efficacy of the sunscreen because it's in oil? 2) at nights I started slowly using retinol at 0.25% (for now once a week). That's also oily so I wonder, does any moisturizer used after that will be absorbed or I just seal my face in the morning and at night with oils and nothing really gets through? 3) I'm suspecting that either retinol or mandelic acid at 15% doesn't really sit well with my skin causing redness and weird microbumbs (looking kind of like milia). Can I first use La Roche-Posay Cicaplast B5+ and then retinol or will it be a waste?

I checked the trademark registration. It disclaims the word “retinoid” which means they’re not claiming the exclusive right to use that word. So basically they’re claiming the right to use bio in conjunction with retinoid on their products. What I find odd is that it claims it’s being used on various products containing retinoids. If the products do contain retinoids then it is basically a descriptive mark, and a pretty weak one. If in fact the products don’t contain retinoids, only bakuchiol or similar, IMO the mark is deceptive and misleading to the consumer at best.
@jessicaguanabara712

Here in Brazil we have some products labeled as “alternative retinol”, containing bakuchiol. Some call themselves “phyto-retinol” or “vegan retinol”. I try to use retinol many times in my life, but I have never been able to complete the entire treatment because my skin is very sensitive to retinol. I use a serum with bakuchiol from the Brazilian brand Simple Organic, called Retinol-like, and I noticed many effects that I looked for in retinol, such as improving skin texture, controlling oiliness and acne, but without the negative effects that I didn't like in the first place. retinol. As I never liked using retinol in my skin care routine, using bakuchiol is a good alternative to get some of the benefits of retinol, but I am fully aware that it does not faithfully replace retinol if I really need to use this active ingredient.

Thank you for all this precious info! You are truly educating us! Can you please shed some light on the new product of Ordinary the Retinal 0.2% Emulsion they are advertising this as their strongest product in this category... But we have been under the impression that their Retinoid 5% in Squalane serum is stronger... and as you explained above the Granactive Retinoid is just before the prescription ... Please help... thank you

Dr Idriss, is the Amiro Turbo R3 or Currentbody LED Mask more recommendable against wrinkles, if one has a thin face (not much fat)?

Hey Doc, am noticing small rash like little red acne on my lower cheek. I used retinol just once, before that I used salicylic acid serum by Ordinary and night cream after. Worried what went wrong that new rashes are showing up. Do you have any tips to improve them?

I always get so excited when i see your instagram reels! Would love if you could talk about the risk of vitamin A toxcicity from skin care products with vitamin A ingredients? Also what are the potencies of retinyls and retinoates (with a range of chemical compounds) in products and are they effective? I also notice that some countries ie germany, canada has banned/ restricted the use of retinyl lineolate in their products due to risk of cancer? And if so, are there other safer forms of retinoids to use? Please clarify thanks!

How long should I leave tretenoin on my face for it to be effective. I ask because I have a dauchsund and she licks off every treatment I slather on. But if I put on my products an hour - or two before I climb ino bed or sunk into the sofa, do I have a chance of it working? Thanks!

Maybe wrong place to ask this but I’ve started getting lash lifts & love them! (I’m lazy with makeup… well.. lashes spf & lip gloss and we done lol). Dr Idriss, I would love to hear your thoughts on at home lash lifts? I’m very scared to mess about near my eyes but I know they sell kits and I would like to be able to do mine at home. Does anyone here have any experience/recommendations with at home lash lift/tints? Thank you!

Could you adress the new European regulamentation about retinol? The amount of retinol for face skincare is now restraint to 0.3% and to 0.5% for body skincare. Why did they do that? Is retinol unsafe?

In Europe people get a lot of vitamin A through their diet and supplements. The EU wants to prevent people from ‘overdosing’ on vitamin A by restricting the retinol percentages.

They should not remove it from market they can sell it strictly on prescription that would have been enough @@Bird5861tr4

Hi Dr.I. I use trentinoine on my face. My neck ( between my chin and throat is beginning to sag) would it help if I put this cream on that area. ( paying attention to sensitivity-obviously as I incorporate it into my routine) Thanks

Also fun fact retinoids didn’t heal my white heads, after one year and my dermatologist kept increasing the dosage, until i decided to stop and all of a sudden red blood vessels that had disappeared after 3v beam lasers all off a sudden came back

I have a question, I’ve been using medik8 20 which is their highest concentration for several months and I don’t see any improvement on my skin. Do you have an opinion about this brand and do you know a higher retinal brand over the counter?

Hi dr! Retinol-related question: i use a beautiful retinol serum which is Duolys.A by Laboratoires ACM. I've been using it consistently for months and have indeed seen results. However, the retinol concentration is not indicated anywhere. Do products like this have a standard concentration they go with?

I realise I am a bit late to the conversation, but can you use retinol in extremely harsh weather? In India we had heat waves for a month and even though I applied a thick layer of sunscreen, it was not enough, my skin would end up a bit red and inflamed just from the warm air hitting my face. So should we use retinol in extremely hot and dry summers? Common sense would say NO. But what is the expert opinion?

My skin takes tret pretty well so I use it most nights skipping every now and then if my skin feels sensitive. However, I once heard an esthetician say we should always take a break from tret after a few months. Is that the case? Can I just continue using year round if I have no inflammation?

i have tried adapalene a few times using only a pea size amount and every time i’d wake up with swollen red eyelids that itch for days and take at least 3-4 days to recover i have dry skin type and i did use vaseline around my eyes,is it something others have experienced or it’s purely a reaction?
@anniezion
@anniezion 6 ай бұрын
Maybe vaseline is the cause? It's basically putting petroleum on yr delicate skin around the eyes...I do get slightly dry & itchy around eyes at times when putting tretinoin too close to the eye area, as it sort of "migrates" during night. It could also be it gets on the pillow and then on yr eyes when sleeping. I put some la Roche Posay toleriane rich around eyes, as a barrier to not get tretinoin in that area.

First just have to say I love your necklaces Dr. Idriss! And...I was just wondering recently what the hell backuchoil (sp?) is. Because of course it's being put in everything now. I automatically said "no thanks, I'll stick with the real deal". I currently use adapalene but I'm going to the dermatologist soon for some tretinoin.
