Saurian is a dinosaur game that we all know and love, and today im going to be showcasing the hopeful future the game has, quietly doing its own thing for the last few months after being struck in drama that lost the game $75,000. Today im going to be telling you about what the games currently doing to prove itself.

Saurian had alot of potential, it's sad to see how long it takes to update, i'm gonna try to hold onto that little bit of hope and buy the game soon, but i barely believe that they won't just give up, even with the recent progress

As a backer of this game, I can say that this honestly does NOT have a future. It has been six years now since it entered early access, and in that time they have released two of the six dinosaurs that the backers paid to reach, as it was originally going to be four dinosaurs with an extra two being stretch goals, which works out to one dinosaur every three years. Even if we accept that going forward, this time will be reduced and given the fact that the development team have had to get regular jobs to pay their bills, we are still looking at several years more development. This does not include the fact that also in the reached stretch goals were multiplayer and VR support. Which are going to add yet more time on to the development, so with the glacial pace of dinosaur development combined with those, we are looking at potentially a decade more in development. With the current pace of development, we are also looking at an engine that will become very outdated if the end is ever reached, unless they keep updating said engine, which will add further time on as they update everything to match. Its also a slave to scientific accuracy, so if any of the science around the in-game species is changed, yet more time added on. The former manager who stole the $75k, was also not pursued legally, instead they settled for a "fraction of the stolen funds" and Henry the co-manager getting a full time job. In hindsight, it was obvious this was never itnended to be a released game because of how little they were asking for initially, it was aimed at getting into early access so it could function as a tech demo for a larger company to get involved with, and for the team involved to have work they could showcase in job interviews. Its a development where the team is just going to move on to their own things as their regular jobs and life in general take away from the "hobby" level of development it has now.

I was really upset when, once their T. rex became outdated enough, they immediately scrapped their current rex design and started trying to implement an entirely new one. Work on accuracy updates AFTER the game is mostly finished. I know this will sound weird, but I have experience with this game development method hell-bent on constant accuracy and updating, in roblox. I used to help some roblox game developers with some things, and because of that, I interacted with and closely watched developers of many nature and paleo games, since those were popular on Roblox at the time and my friends were developing games of that sort themselves. A pattern that happened ceaselessly and repeatedly was developers who would make a bunch of models, their skill would improve so much in the process that their old models didn't look right anymore, and they'd then scrap those ones, redo them, and then the models from before that were 'updated' were now ALSO subpar compared to the new models, so they'd scrap them, and then the ones they JUST UPDATED that caused their skill level to become too good were suddenly not good enough- it was a constant race of skill improvement and constant distaste with their old work. Eventually every game would become so cluttered and so far from its goal that they would restart the games entirely from scratch... and repeat the same mistakes. Not ONE animal survival game from all those years ago has made it out of the first phase of development. Not one has escaped revamp hell. Most of the developers stopped developing entirely. Also, if you see someone saying the Saurian developers are toxic... they are most likely right. Almost every realistic animal survival game developer I met was absolutely horrible. Scamming people, tricking people, insulting people, stealing from people, manipulating people, judging people, it was absolutely horrendous. Even the 'friends' I made during that time were awful and eventually fell out, with only the first two developers I met and befriended remaining chill and good people, and one other who no longer works on animal games and is now working on a feudal Japan game instead. The problems weren't even Roblox-specific. Some people with much more funding and a very different game from one of my friends, who was making a non-Roblox game, for some reason, started beef with my friend who mainly developed on Roblox. It's actually insane. I don't remember what it was- something about claiming my friend was stealing their idea, or something. For some reason, the animal game development community is one of the absolute worst, most dogwater communities I have EVER had the displeasure of meeting, and for yet another strange reason, the paleo animal game developers are usually the worst of it. It's absolutely beyond me.

I played Saurian for like a couple weeks or so before I just uninstalled it. The concept of the game is really good and it absolutely has potential but I could barely run it on my laptop. Now I have a pretty average laptop but if I went in one particular direction (I don't know which one) it would just lag like crazy and my dinossaur would for some reason go left and right and left and right and left and right and so on until I looked in another direction. This made it pretty much unplayable for me and I lost motivation. But I would really like to try again now that it's made some progress. I'll also soon get a better PC so it should run easier on it. I'll give it a second chance and I hope it's worth it!

yea its definitely the laptop, i use my gaming PC and aside from the first few seconds of lag when the map is loading, it runs smoothly in high graphics too its really a pain to watch this game in low graphics when you know how beautiful the high graphics are, recently i heard something about performance updates being consider and i hope they come within the next few patches it would really be important

I had the same problem back when I played laptop. I tried so many things. In the end it was upgrading to a full on pc that did the trick. Laptops, in my experience, tend to have a much harder time running games with their limited capability.

I think this game DOES have a future, but they need to get more staff on and accelerate its development to get the other playable Dinosaurs out. But I also strongly feel they also need to not just limit it to one time period and/or location. I really think once they have all the playable Dinosaurs for Hell Creek out, they need to add at least two more locations: One for the Jurassic Period, and one for the Triassic Period. I think the Morrison Formation would be perfect for the Jurassic environment, and for the Triassic one? I'd have to say Ghost Ranch would be the first location that comes to my mind.

I was a big follower of Saurian back in the day... the second controversy may relate to one of the lead developers (Erin AKA 'Fatalis'), who was a programmer focusing on optimization and Saurian's environment, and who took on some management responsibilities, being roughly second to Nick Turinetti (AKA Jobaria, the developer who took the $75,000). From what I understand her parting around mid 2018 was acrimonious, and negatively impacted team cohesion, output, and the team's programming capacity. Henry was forced to step in on both fronts on top of his programming responsibilities. That strain was the beginning of things spiraling out of control, especially after Nick was found out to have stolen the funds in 2021, with Henry going amateur (while finding a new job) as a result. Bryan was another key developer (animator) who left to focus on the Isle. More of an internal controversy, but was almost certainly a big factor in the glacial pace of development so far.

Finally some good news for saurian! Idk if their going for it, but I hope, online multiplayer will be available ones in future. Yeah, I know you can already play with your friends, but I hope there will be multiplayer servers too.

If Saurian is going to have multiplayer and potentially have multiplayer servers I think they should make more animals playable to give the game more variety, hence more things for players to do, like having all of the dinosaurs as a playable would make it even better, instead of having just 6 playable dinosaurs, and maybe players could buy animals like Mosasaurus, Trierarchuncus, Leptoceratops, and Alamosaurus, even though those 3 except for Mosa were cut from the game, they were essentially cut from the game because they weren’t technically in the region the game takes place in, but if had those species it would just add nice variety to the game if you add those 3 species, especially Alamosaurus, and secondly Trierarchuncus, (little to no dino survival games have a playable Alvarezsaurid) and you could buy them from community servers when you win points from things like events, kinda like the Isle, and could potentially add Torosaurus as well. Making the map bigger would also help out if there will be multiplayer servers.

as long as a game is not abadoned by its developer it is never dead, its just a bit slow because the devs also have stuff irl to do too and the team is not too big and the best of all is that its filled with AI it doesnt matter if it doesnt have many players, your experience doesnt depend on the players like in all the other online dinosaur survival games, and the fact that its AI it also makes it better for realism, there are no rules that can be broken and no mods are needed to watch over you the game itself forces you into it and thats why i still play saurian till this day and in fact i enjoy it more than any other dinosaur survival game, it has all i want, a balanced real formation, realism, the ai might do some weird things sometimes but at least they function properly compared to the other dinosaur survival games and have the same needs as the player not to mention as triceratops you even depend on the ai and itself proves that they are fine, simply not perfect AND FINALLY AND MOST IMPORTANT every animal is special, as you grow you dont sit all the time in bushes hiding again and again, you have different kind of experience making all the animals worth...dakotaraptor climbs trees and falls like a parachute, the age segregated herds of triceratops, the upcoming trex, as juvenile will hunt in sibling packs and be solitary as fully grown and god knows what ankylosaurus, anzu and pachycephalosaurus will be like no matter how slow or fast the development is, it happens and we get small devlogs each month where we see the progress and its definitive proof that the game is not dead at all and in fact since the triceratops was added (around the time i bought the game) it seems to me that the updates became a bit more common, still slow but not as slow as in the past you know what they say, slow and steady wins the race

They got complacent when they were the top dogs (More like the only dogs), but pretty much fell off when Path of Titans started getting serious. I still love certain aspects of the Isle (The Ui, the graphics and the depth of certain creatures), but for the the most part it's pretty meh now.

I had no idea Saurian was build in unity, that is freaking awesome I love unity and I been using it. Fun fact i use to hate it lol. I love what this game could be but it's taking a hell of a long time to get there. Shame on the dev for stealing the money which hurt this game immensely. Progress has been slow and that's sad, but it looks to be speeding back up so hoping for the best?

In order to have a future they just need to make the game fun. But they don't seem to understand how to do that. How the game looks doesn't matter. What matters is wether it's fun to play. So what do you do in saurian? You run around searching for food and water, as a carnivore you hunt and kill, eat the food, drink the water, repeat. That's the basic gameplay loop. This is what they need to focus on. Searching for food and water should not be a chore. It should be fun and engaging. I thought they realized that when they announced the scent system but that turned out to be underdeveloped garbage. The most useful thing it currently does is highlight the location of small corpses in dense underbrush. Wouldn't it be fun if animals actually left trackways that you could follow. (Perhaps visible ones on mud and sand but on more solid ground they only show up when you are in scent mode) Wouldn't it be neat if you could smell water? (Even the Isle has figured that out) Wouldn't it be neat if the Dakotaraptor would swallow the lizard and the mammal whole upon killing them? Then you wouldn't have to search for their bodies in the underbrush or deal with the abysmal hit boxes every time. Because neither of that is fun. Combat is another very important aspect which they have screwed up so far. The RPR system has potential but they are not using it properly. A big issue is actually pouncing on a target. So what if the aiming mode actually worked. Perhaps looking at something while in aiming mode tells the game that it is a target and when you jump at it the game adjusts your jump so that you actually hit it. What if the Dakota raptor could also kick? That could be used to fight other Dakotaraptors. (Imagine a rooster fight) Wouldn't it be cool if the Triceratops could lock heads with each other in a fight? Another thing that drags the game down is the ai. For example, things like endlessly aggressive animals (especially the Pachycephalosaurus) that will chase you around the map, need to be fixed. They don't even have to ad anything fancy yet. They just need to make the ai functional. So that it does not get in the way of the fun and instead enhances it. I have many more thoughts and ideas about how to make saurian fun but I am already wondering if anyone will read this far.

I do think it has a future. After the dark patch from the release to the triceratops update, we've gotten atleast semi-major updates yearly. Apparently, one of the devs ran off with all the money, which is why it's so slow.

Tried it once but it was barely running on my PC (which isn't weak) and I had quite a few graphical glitches with lightning, it was... Not fun lol. Not much was happening also, almost no AI so I got bored pretty quickly. I love idea of this game and I hope it'll success in the future but for now can't say it's good.

I really hope the game turns out okay in the end, but I’m admittedly not all that confident nowadays. The Manager running off with $75k feels like a blow they aren’t going to be able to recover from, and after six years of early access it really doesn’t feel like there has been much progress. IMO they’re doing the best they can with the resources they have, and I’m not counting them out unless they announce they’re ending development. I think it’ll probably be a good few years before the full release, if it ever happens, but maybe one day we’ll see a full game.

This game is beautiful but admittedly I find it to be a garbage nothing game. It has so much potential that it's sad. The new nesting took years to add and it practically adds nothing. I couldn't even have my family follow me they just aimlessly wander and swim in the water endlessly. It was so bad I almost immediately quit. I couldn't do it. Also the graphics can be beautiful up close the Map is just sad and I've had a reocurring bug where there was fog. Maybe it was just a graphics choice but there was no way I could see anything more than 200ft around me. And I have an amazing pc and running full graphics. It seemed to magically fix itself for a few moments after having babies then after I reloaded the game after a few months of not playing it was back. Made me so mad.

I’d say it’s not a fair comparison lumping Saurian in with others as it’s more of a single player survival game whereas the others decidedly favor PvP. I don’t want another clone of the others, I want a realistic dinosaur survival game that isn’t focused around large groups ganging up on the single player, and where the world feels less empty and more dynamic. That’s why I want to hope Saurian is successful, it’s not in the same category beyond having a similar aesthetic and dinosaurs.

All i want is for this to work. Im so tired of empty multiplayer dino games that just boil down to a furry oc role play game. No offence if thats your thing. To each theyre own. It would just be nice to have options. Dont get me wrong, i still want to RP, but as an actual dinosaur in the wild. Because i am a child, not a child predator. Jokes.

This game is a lost cause at this point. Competition got fierce and more feature complete while this one still can’t decide if it wants to be a game or interactive movie. The fact that a manager stole money and legal action wasn’t taken and the lead artist is an egotistical maniac who can’t handle criticism has killed any hope for this project. How people are still excited and waiting for it is beyond me. I’m just here to spare the future disappointment.

Short answer: no Long answer: ahahahahaha no, game is a scam. If a major dev walks away stealing $75,000 from the game's development budget then that's proof it's a scam through and through.
