Starmer got in with 34% of the vote (the lowest majority since 1885) and a large factor in that was that most Tory voters either declined to vote or defected to Reform (for obvious reasons) It is a bit disingenuous to say he has a thumping mandate.

@@alexandercruisey2880 No, he got in with just 20% of the voting electorate, 34% of those that turned out, Starmer got half a million LESS votes than Corbyn got in 2019, so he was/is less popular with Labour voters than Corbyn was despite how bad the Tories were, they are the facts, the only reason Labour got in with such a huge majority was because the voting system doesn't reflect how many people voted for each party thanks to the FPTP system, this election has shown just how bad and unrepresentative this system has become !

So far Starmer has attacked pensioners, wanting to remove their winter fuel allowance. Whilst millionaire politicians on £96000 a year claim their fuel bills as expenses and get £1000’s of free gifts. Starmer also wants the long term sick to look for work, how is that going to be enforced? Since when has attacking the elderly and the sick been Labour values? What happened to those with the broadest shoulders? Bought and paid for politicians when they get so much from the public who they are supposed to represent. Change unfortunately is what the public can only ask for, it’s only the corrupt politicians that can change the system, so expect a large bucket of whitewash and more of the same, only better concealed. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
@alexandercruisey2880Ай бұрын

@growlinggrowler-c2vАй бұрын
The broadest shoulders have never paid their fair share, same mentality. You allow them these schemes and ways to evade tax everyone does it so why not us. When the politicians do the same with free gifts apart from the bribery aspect, it's immorral. Companies make excuses where the actual sales were made to pay less, individuals like Blair acquire companies registered in tax havens with mansions as assets to avoid tax. It's all a normal occurrence for those with the broadest shoulders to take take take. What do we have for the 2.77 trillion national debt, wheres all the money going?

Cannot be means tested on council tax banding. Many council properties come under the heading if D band which Labour consider is party of the banding for wealthy. I live in a council flat, do not have a car, do not drink or smoke, do not eat out at restaurants or go to theatres but I cannot get pension credit. My husband and I get £220 per week i.e.over the threshold as a couple. Husband also has a small private pension totalling the princely sum of 108 per month. So no WFA. We fall into a massive band of people that are not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination but income is above threshold. That is where the unfairness comes in.

I wish people would stop saying he was voted in with a huge majority, he got 33.7% of the vote, only 1% more than they did last time, and for context, in 2017 when Labour also lost, they lost with 40% of the vote, so he didn't even manage to get more than Corbyn did back in 2017. Labour didn't win because people voted for them, Labour won by narrow margins because people didn't vote Tory and the other parties split the vote. He was voted in as Labour Leader based on promises that he's failed to keep, he's broken all the pledges he made in order to become Labour Leader, he lied to the membership and now he's lied to the country. He promised change, yet he's only delivering more of the same, more austerity, more corruption, more sleaze He claimed we were all in this together, and would all face hardship, yet he doesn't know the meaning of the word as when challenged over the gifts he felt entitled to them. And what did the gifts and donations buy? A wealth tax and windfall tax would be 'too hard to implement', so he's not taxing the top 1% they don't have to pay their 'fair share', but the poor, the pensioners, the disabled and the students, those are who he has gone after and has decided to balance the books off the backs of. He's Taking away the winter fuel allowance, he wants to kick the disabled off benefits and force them into work despite being physically unfit for work, he wants to make it impossible for students from working class families to go to Uni by raising tuition fees, he wants to privatise the NHS Make no mistake, Starmer is not Labour but a Tory in a Red Tie. Don't forget that Starmer publicly praised Thatcher, and Tories left the CONservatives to cross the aisle and sit with Labour as they felt Starmer was more Right Wing that Sunak He's purged anyone from the party that might challenge him and is not loyal to him. Starmer has to go

You paid taxes for things like national defence, access to health care and schooling for your children… If you can afford to not take then don’t the state is there for people who are unfortunate enough to not be able for afford these things. However unfortunately the winter fuel allowance means testing seems to be far too harsh. There are many variables for some pensions such as if they own their house or are STILL having to pay private rental housing costs. What it comes to is, the wealthy need to pay more.
