Having a stronger magnet on one end would not work. I’m not completely confident on this, but I believe the larger object will only put however much energy the smaller object can take, and no more. So it won’t move.

You are right it will not work. But the reason is that the forces that each magnet applies on the other is still the same regardless of whether the magnets are the same strength or not.

Nope. Same result. Force of A on B is still force of B on A. Just like force of earth on moon is same as moon on earth for gravity.
